@FrayedBear 1" to 2" cubes of lamb (shoulder or leg) marinated in a mixture of cayenne, cinnamon, ginger, paprika, black pepper, tumeric, a few cloves of garlic crushed and a couple of onions diced fine with a bit of olive oil - mix well and leave in the fridge for at least 12 hours but 24 is better. Brown everything in a pan and then deglaze with some tomato juice and put everything into a slow cooker on high for an hour with a can of diced tomatoes and some beef stock or vegetable stock, then turn it down to low for an hour or two until the lamb is tender and add some slivered almonds, dates, apricots, raisins, baby carrots, etc and a healthy pinch of saffron. Layer over couscous and garnish with cilantro and parsley.

To be honest I don't think it was all about being stupid but more about being entitled and selfish and with a heightened sense of importance. Shouldn't there be so peon to run behind him and take care of these things? Shouldn't the peons on his staff be able to walk around the umbrella until some secret service agent runs up the stairs and picks it up and puts it away? The POTUS doesn't even acknowledge the honour guard standing in the rain for him, probably for at least an hour, what kind of leader is that? Real leaders lead from the front, they value their people and respect them but not this piece of shit, he won't even share his umbrella with his trophy wife.

Why you should never put vodka in the freezer
Surfpirate comments on Oct 29, 2018:
Surprisingly not that awful for a cheap vodka, I bought it in the Mexican border town of Chetumal for $6, decent mixer but not a sipper cold or frozen.
Surfpirate replies on Oct 29, 2018:
Seriously though, I do like Tito's from Texas which has a bit of a moonshine bit to it, Luksusowa is good value and then there's the always reliable Stoli which now even comes with a gluten free option. The Smirnoff, Absolut, Ciroc and Grey Goose are less likely purchases for me personally. However, I did make a very decent 120 proof vodka with a refractory still that I ran for a while, if you pull it from the middle and then run it through a second time it is a nice, smooth vodka that many thought might be Tito's but with an extra kick to it.

Surfpirate replies on Oct 28, 2018:
Ultra pasteurized milk, comes in a tetra pak, it's all you find in Latin America. I used to mix it with the edible oil product they call crema for making whipping cream, as close as it gets to coffee cream. Try using coffee cream, you can source it organic for twice the price if you look around.

@Piratefish What works in Canada often does not work in the US of A. I also have several fire detectors but if one of them goes off accidentally or if in a rage somebody in my house decides to pull one on me or perhaps I feel suicidal and decide to off myself with an extinguisher, it's minimal damage. Your odds of dying in your home increase dramatically when you own a hand gun because as Bruce Lee famously stated in Enter the Dragon - 'any fool can pull a trigger'.

@callmedubious I was thinking about the job that the Canadian Armed Forces did so well for the latter half of the last century - Peacekeeping. It was only under Harper that the role started to change to a more American style of military. I agree that the Department of National Defense should be just that and that the only threat of attack at the moment is from the south but that has been the case since long before Plan Red came to light. I live less than 10 klicks from CFB Kingston and less than an hour from Fort Drum so I am well aware of the main military threat to Canada.

@BettyColeman So wouldn't it make sense that the bombs were actually bombs instead of just bomb ingredients? Anyone who has access to the internet can come up with the ingredients for gunpowder - charcoal, sulfur and an oxidizer like potassium nitrate, they are available off the shelf. It falls into the same category as the refugee caravan travelling from central america, a whole family is getting by on $5 a day and when they are told to move in order to keep that $5 then they move but nobody asks the question, Who is paying the $5 a day and who told them it was time to move?

@callmedubious It was the mid 70's and I can't be sure of the name of the submarine, I only recall hearing the story at the Barnes' kitchen table as a teenager. Still incredible that a well trained crew could take out a nuclear aircraft carrier surrounded by state of the art destroyers with a WWII diesel submarine. I have the utmost respect for our men and women in the armed forces, some of the best trained warriors on the planet, if only they had the proper tools to do the job.

The father of a friend of mine was a submarine commander in the Canadian Navy, the Iroquois if I recall correctly, WWII diesel submarine. During war games with the Yanks he was tasked with taking out the Nimitz aircraft carrier, the sort of thing that admirals ask of commanders. So he made a best guess of where Nimitz and his escort destroyers would be cruising and then he found a large bank of seaweed and buried his submarine in it and waited, for 2 days, total silence - until the Nimitz task force came over the horizon. He let the escorts sail by and then lined up a full spread using battery power, sank the Nimitz and was sunk himself with in minutes (figuratively speaking, dummy torpedoes of course)
