I prefer to fly solo when it comes to defend myself against the attacks by idiots and I will happily do the occasional calvary charge when I see others being unfairly attacked. Unfortunately I am not on a lot lately because I am at my cottage and the internet router got fried by a lightning strike that caused a power outage.
I'll share another sleepwalking story from my brother.
Surfpirate comments on Jul 28, 2018:
My eldest son was 4 when I was splitting up with my first wife and I was getting ready to leave for a new job in Alberta. I woke up around 4 am to the sound of him crying and begging me to please don't go, daddy as he stood in the driveway sound asleep holding on to the bumper of my car. I went outside and carried him back to bed, still sound asleep and lay there with him. Breaks my heart to remember it.

People get offended for all sorts of reasons and often it really doesn't have much to do with what you have said but how they are feeling about their own life. It could be one of those American beavers that slipped across the border illegally and is trying to blend in even though Real Canadian Beavers don't make a habit of hanging a Canadian flag off their front porch except maybe on Canada Day. This beaver needs to be checked out, politely of course, just to make sure he isn't one of those American terrorist types, the ones that always carry a concealed hand gun because they just don't feel safe. :D

Surfpirate comments on Jul 25, 2018:
Likes - None Dislikes - the smells of other people's cooking, smoking, pets - the feeling of all those other people on all sides like a chicken in a battery cage - Rules, I barely manage to do guidelines so forget rules that go with communal living - Elevators, I like walking into my house and walking out into my yard not being moved in a box - basically everything else, just awful for me personally but there are plenty who love it

My brother is a sleepwalker.
Surfpirate comments on Jul 25, 2018:
Sleepwalking is definitely something that freaks people out when they see someone doing it, I used to do it when I was younger. I think the last time I did it was when my wife and I were first dating and I had spent the night at her house. She woke up and found that I was no longer in bed so she got up because I always make the coffee and bring it to her in bed but it was around 4 am, which is a little early even for me. She can't find me anywhere in the house and my dog is gone too, so she checks the driveway and my pick up truck is still there, now she is getting worried. So she looks out back and there I am with my dog Bear, both of us pissing on the tree in the backyard and I'm au naturel because I don't wear night clothes. She's calling to me to come inside before the neighbours see me as the sun is just coming up but I don't respond, finally I turn around and come back inside with my dog at my heels, my eyes are completely closed and I am sleepwalking. She closes the door behind me and follows me back to bed where I lie down for a couple of hours before waking up, letting the dog out for a pee and making the coffee as per usual, no knowledge of what had happened earlier.

Not religious, but spiritual? Really?
Surfpirate comments on Jul 24, 2018:
Can a Vulcan be spiritual? Maybe being too left brain oriented has as many challenges as being to right brain oriented Some people interpret all definitions as being strictly dictionary definitions and some people just feel what defines a word, they have an innate sense of what something means. Being spiritual doesn't have to mean something ghostly or angelic but if you can't feel that then it's going to be hard to explain it.

My dad tried that with me when I was 14, after the 4th cigarette in a row with no ill effects he asked me how long I had been smoking, started when I was 11 so it was no big deal. He figured it was my money from my paper route to waste as I saw fit. I smoked on and off again for 35 years, either nothing or two packs a day but haven't had a cigarette in more than a decade now, no desire for one either.

Surfpirate comments on Jul 23, 2018:
Good thing she got that out of the way for you right up front, it's annoying enough being a landlord with a decent tenant never mind a problem tenant. It could have been worse, she could have played nicey nice until after you had cashed her deposit cheque and signed a lease with her. On those occasions when I have rented a house I have had some rather strange landlords make unreasonable claims upon me and I have successfully defended myself but generally people are good and reasonable when it comes to being a lessor or a lessee.

I told her that I was happily married and thanks but no thanks, if the daggers coming out of her eyes were real then I would have been a human pin cushion. Most of my female partners over the years experienced similar advances from Boomers, maybe because they are so in love with youth, the generation that coined the phrase "Don't Trust Anyone Over 30" and they quickly became 40 somethings and then some. ;)

Ghosts: To those of you who DO believe in ghosts, I ask, how does that work in your opinion?
Surfpirate comments on Jul 22, 2018:
I think you are going to get a pretty rocky response from some of the members who have never experienced such a thing and are highly skeptical as a result. They will trot out scientific method and demand physical proof of such an ethereal phenomena. I have personally experienced two 'ghosts' and I studied genetics and microbiology so I am scientifically trained and therefore of a skeptical mindset myself. However, I cannot explain what I experienced with the scientific method and I have no physical evidence to convince naysayers and frankly I do not want to convince anyone; let them experience their own conundrums and sort them out for themselves - not my monkey and not my circus. That said I experienced a phantasm that is supposed to be the spirit of the man who built our family cottage before we bought it and was shot by his brother when he came home unexpectedly from guiding some game hunters and surprised his brother and his fiancee in flagrante delicto, he got shot in the heart for his troubles and haunts our cottage now. Nobody breaks into our cottage over the winter and that's an added bonus for putting up with some of his poltergeist displays, although he has been rather quiet lately and that's a good thing. I also had a small woman show up in our front entry in the wee hours with eyes like saucers that were spinning vortexes to who knows where. She seemed lost and kept staring around the room until she finally noticed me standing there petrified with fear and then she screamed and charged me. I tried to run because I knew this was not some normal person but a ghost and she jumped on my back which caused me to let out a yell myself and then it was over. I got a call from the family of the woman we had bought the house from and were in the midst of renovating, this was the following morning and I didn't sleep much anyways, telling me that their mother had passed within an hour of the ghost woman showing up in our entryway. I guess she didn't like the renovations. :D I never saw the old ghost woman after that first night but The Hunter Ghost at our cottage was shot in the 1930's and still protects it even though my Nana bought it in 1947.

I learned Spanish in Ecuador when I was living there and other parts of Latin America for a few years, they speak a very pure Spanish compared to Cuban which is very fast and full of slang, Mexico is also full of English words and idioms, Peru is pretty good compared to Argentinian or Chilean Spanish which is very slurred and fast with lots of consonants just dropped completely and left for the person to imagine them. Estados Unidos is no Norte America todo. My French is Canadian French or as some Francophones from France often tell me, Antique French which makes sense considering that New France was cut off from France when they lost the war with the British back in the 1700's on the Plains of Abraham. My wife is a native Montrealer so she speaks a more polished French but not so polished that a Parisian wouldn't look down their nose at her when they hear her speak but that's Parisians for you. lol
My daughter woke me up this morning to tell me she had a nightmare.

How old did you say on a previous post your daughter is? 11? Pretty damned insightful for an 11 year old but the level of indoctrination and programming is much greater than it was when we were that age.
I have received hundreds of messages requesting a recent picture.

Oh Man I feel your pain Brother, been there and done that only on a lonely desert highway in Northern Peru on the way from Lima to Trujillo at 2 am. I pulled over in a bunch of cactus when I could hardly bare the agony and just got my pants dropped when a bunch of kerosene lanterns started to light up around me, I was standing in the front yard of a workers camp, just a bunch of large tents with no electricity so I hadn't seen them when I pulled off the highway in intestinal distress. Hauled up my drawers and peeled out of there with no relief but another 5 miles down the road there was a truck stop, so maybe there is a benevolent god. ;) I hobbled into the stand alone, cinder block restroom and found myself in an inch of very dubious and murky water from an overflowing toilet but I was undeterred and sloshed forward into the only other stall with no door and only one half of a Webster's dictionary for wiping material, no seat but a porcelain throne none the less. 10 minutes later I staggered out of that noxious bunker and shakily made my way back to the rental car which was still running and still there. Who knew that Montezuma's Revenge went as far south as Peru? :D
