I fired up my roto tiller two days ago to prep a section of my garden for replanting and hornets came out of the hollow frame piece. I got out of there in a hurry and was lucky not to get stung. Since they were hornets and not bees I came back with a can of foaming hornet spray and eliminated the problem. 13.5 miles, how many sections is that?

You're going to need about 50,000 more people if you are going to storm the gates of the White House and expect the Secret Service to put up a fight with military weapons. Americans always expect gun fire when other countries storm their presidential palace in a coup d'etat but it rarely happens, however the Americans do expect it to happen because that's what they would do.

What are your thoughts about religious waivers for complying with public health or safety policies?
Surfpirate comments on Jul 19, 2018:
Personally I think that using religion as a justification for anything is idiotic, justifications for actions can stand on their logical merits or not at all. The JW ban on blood transfusions is a case in point, most operations can take place using Ringer's lactate solution and there are none of the side effects associated with blood that may be contaminated as was the case with the Red Cross a couple of decades ago which was quietly swept under the rug. I would choose Ringer's over whole blood or use my own banked blood if I needed an operation, yet the medical community swears by the donated blood system. I'm not against blood transfusions I just think the risks are lower if I used a blood substitute and I am not about to take on greater risks to my health because the medical community hasn't put aside its bias for donated blood. It took decades to get surgeons to scrub up before surgery and poor disinfecting procedures are still a major cause of infection, we humans certainly are a recalcitrant lot when it comes to progress.

I had a trumpet player who worked for me as a carpenter as his day job and he used to go to a lot of funerals which I had to pay him for while he was at the funeral. I finally called him on it and he leveled with me that he would go to the funerals of people he barely knew and take his trumpet with him. People would pass the hat and he would play taps as the casket was lowered into the ground, said he usually made around $300 for 10 minutes work and then he would go to the wake, eat till he was stuffed and often wind up taking home one of the grieving relatives. I pointed out to him that I was also paying him while he was at the funeral and that if he did it again for someone who wasn't a direct relative I would fire his ass. He thought I was unfair.

Surfpirate comments on Jul 18, 2018:
I attribute more meaning to my dreams but maybe that's just me or maybe I have been following my dreams so long that they make more sense to me than they do to people that just don't want to think about them. After all, dreams can have some very disturbing images in them, upsetting, taboo and terrifying; I can hardly blame people for not wanting to deal with them. Other cultures attributed a great deal more importance to the dream state than we do as Westerners, to each their own.

Here's a suggestion, turn off the television set and don't listen to the news on the radio for a month and see how you feel after that period, maybe you'll want to take another month from the bullshit. Don't worry about missing anything important that you can actually effect a change to because if you look back on the past 6 months of constant, annoying drivel was there really anything that directly effected you personally that you needed to know about on the news and that you could make a difference about?

I spent 8 hours at Emerg today with my wife after she felt faint and dizzy and nauseous this morning. We assumed it might be dehydration as she had a dry mouth and a racing heart so off to the hospital we go. There were 2 other women and a french guy there at the Emergency Ward presenting with the same symptoms as my wife. They put my wife on an IV drip of saline solution with some gravol for the nausea and they cleaned the wax out of her ears as they thought this might be causing the nausea. Symptoms have abated but I have to wonder why there were so many other patients there with identical symptoms and the doctor said there was no connection to the heat. Could it be the air quality?

The moderator is usually the person who starts the group and they typically have the ability to set up chat times (wait till we're around 50 ppl) and they should have the ability to kick people out of the group or delete posts that are unacceptable such as racist or hate filled, sexist or bullying, that kinda thing.

Do you ever have recurring dreams?
Surfpirate comments on Jul 16, 2018:
I've had recurring dreams but they aren't the same dream repeated but rather continuations of the same dream where I had left off the night before, sometimes these will go on for a couple of weeks and sometimes I will get a respite and it will go away for a while but then come back and I will pick it up again. As an example I was building a domed stadium with a retractable roof in a dream set in Vancouver, I was the Master Builder on the job so I was co-ordinating the project each night and it would start all over again the following night where I had left off from the night previous. It started with earthworks and I was in the midst of the foundation pour when there was a delay so I went up to the tower crane operator's box to get an overview of the site and source the problem. I could see that there had been a major accident on the freeway involving one of my concrete trucks and all of the other trucks were stuck in the traffic jam behind the accident, the ground pump was starting to harden up because there was no fresh concrete to pump through it to the foundation forms. I sent one of my pm's to take care of the ground pump and then went up onto the freeway to sort out the traffic jam and get the rest of the trucks to the ground pump before they started to have their batches set up in the drum. By the time I got it all sorted out I had actually slept in a bit and was late getting to my real job site where I am a real Master Builder. I didn't dream of the stadium for about a week but then it was back and soon I was installing the sliding dome segments and the engineering was all wrong and I had to fix it which took another whole night, followed by the jib collapsing off the tower crane and falling into the newly installed box seats. By the time I was done building the dream stadium as well as the other projects I had on the go in my waking life it was almost a month and I had dark circles under my eyes.
Nightmare time?
Surfpirate comments on Jul 16, 2018:
I think it is interesting that you went from nightmare to lucid dreaming with the help of your mom but then chose to go back to the nightmare although now you weren't so helpless. Usually if I am having a regular dream without any controls and I am just a passive participant and then I become aware and the dream turns lucid then I can't go back to passive. Sometimes being passive in a dream is more fun, like watching a movie instead of directing and acting in it.

It was on a distant world with an arena blasted out of the rock and several different species were brought there by the powerful beings that controlled the arena. The humanoids and one blob like creature were on the periphery of the arena and in the center was a huge winged lion with a bony knob on the end of it's tail that we had to fight to the death in hand to hand combat while spectators watched the televised action in far off galaxies. The guys in the red suits didn't last very long at all but the science officer was still around but just barely by the time my ticket got punched by the lion's claws and poisoned talons on the wings. Not painful, just one second there and the next second awake.

Surfpirate comments on Jul 16, 2018:
Interesting symbolism, all 3 of you are victims of a knife attack but none of you are seriously harmed, just shaken up and unsettled. You suspect that the source of the threat is the other man who is with/competing for the attentions of the woman but the physicians think you are just being paranoid and want to treat you for your paranoia. You don't believe their diagnosis is correct about you being paranoid about the other competitor for your love interest so you reject it and flee but it turns out that they were right in so far as it wasn't the other suitor you needed to be concerned about but the object of your affections. Interesting that you felt the need to penetrate the woman with the knife after you had wrestled it away from her, so the knife was not the critical threat but the woman wielding the knife and she was still perceived as a threat after you had neutralized the knife. The good thing is that the dream doesn't end there but has you going back to the hospital for treatment for your misplaced paranoia but you still are resisting the diagnosis because you are still trying to escape from it when you wake up. Sometimes our dreams are just our subconscious mind trying to get through to our conscious mind while we are receptive to the message in dream state and sometimes not.
