Do you see it as child abuse forcing kids to go to Church when they are clearly sick?
Surfpirate comments on Jun 12, 2018:
Forcing a child to go to an institution that is well known for child molestation and fills their heads with horrible images of demons and eternal torture and overarching monitoring for sin in thoughts and actions - Well it sure sounds like child abuse to me. Dragging them into that den of iniquity when they are physically ill is even more heinous.

Suicide: a cowardly move? True or false?
Surfpirate comments on Jun 12, 2018:
I think a better question would be 'Is it selfish of people to blame a person who commits suicide for their loss of that person?' The person who suicides is simply no longer alive but the sense of pain and loss that some people feel as a result of that person no longer being there can be great but it is their choice too on how to deal with that. I've lost people in this life and it has often been a painful experience, especially when I was younger and didn't know how to deal with it. Blaming the person who opts to end their life by suicide is essentially blaming the victim, at least in my opinion.

Surfpirate comments on Jun 10, 2018:
There is always a group of people that want to go along and get along, which is fair and it works in many cases but it doesn't work with religion because all religions command their followers to kill the heretic, the infidel, the nonbeliever. Personally speaking I am a Lefty Libertarian which sound like a contradiction in terms but it actually isn't. Part of being a Libertarian is supposed to involve social responsibility but that seems to have gone out of fashion with the current Right Wingers, Republitards and Libertarians alike. Democrats seem to just want all the money and power for themselves to mete out as they see fit, which translates as most of the money for themselves and their friends with a few scraps tossed to the special interest groups. It makes more sense to me to take care of all members of society and especially those who are most vulnerable than to build a police state that profits from incarcerating people, it's not civilized or humane and frankly it is bad business because incarceration and policing is expensive. Ultimately, the whole system is unworkable because with only 2 parties it is just too easy for big money interests to buy off both sides and have them work for the good of the few instead of the good of the many. 3 crooks are better than two because two will eventually come to an understanding that is to their mutual benefit but 3 is one too many and being crooks they can't trust two opponents so they keep each other at least a little bit honest and that benefits the many.

So I just watched NBC story on suicide and they called it a mental illness.
Surfpirate comments on Jun 10, 2018:
Being depressed is a normal emotion but having chronic depression is a mental illness and people do stigmatize others when the illness is mental and not physical. If you had a broken arm they would line up to sign your cast but if you have something broken inside then most people shun you like you have Ebola. It's not right and it's not fair. Some religious types will even suggest that you are possessed by the devil, certainly a good reason for people to hide their mental troubles instead of being open to treatment, being burned at the stake is not a great cure but it is effective and permanent.

Surfpirate comments on Jun 10, 2018:
You should try going back to a church service on your 6 month mark as an Atheist. Sometimes absence makes the heart grow fonder until you go back and see things with a fresh set of eyes. Be warned, some things that you saw as being perfectly normal will now appear very twisted without the religious blinders on. Maybe you will decide to go back to the delusion for the sake of comfort, maybe not but there is only one way to know, you gotta go and find out for yourself.

Should Burning an American Flag be illegal?

Don't burn the US flag in the US of A, you are likely to get shot by some patriotic nutter with a gun (they all have guns so it's a given that they will be packing heat when they come across you burning a piece of fabric). You can burn the US flag in Canada, or the Canadian flag or any country's flag for that matter, we don't care because we know it is just a piece of fabric. Paying $20 on a piece of cloth just so you can burn it is pretty stupid, we like to keep a little distance between ourselves and stupid people, my patriotism is not tied to some other person's idiocy.

If you could choose to design and be awake inside a lucid dream, where would you go and what would ...
Surfpirate comments on Jun 4, 2018:
My dreamlife is my other life, it takes me to all sorts of places. I experience several different kinds of dreams, some are as real as this waking life I experience and some are lucid and I can control those like a DVD, back up the tape if I don't like how things are going and reprogram them to suit my taste although that can be a bit tedious, others are encounters with other dreamers and those seem to occur in a totally different dream state that is more like a blending of dimensions. So sometimes I design my dreams but the most lucid dreams of all are my regular dreams which are just an altered reality. I often use my dream time to resolve issues in this life, working through scenarios until I find a satisfactory solution, sometimes it is a practical matter like engineering problems or logistical problems on a project I am doing, such as how to place a 5 ton unit that is not accessible by heavy equipment or a structural design problem that my engineers can't sort out. Some of my dreams can be ongoing and I return to them each night and continue on where I left off when I woke up that morning, those can be tiring. I once built a domed stadium that took me several weeks of dreamtime, started at the foundation and didn't wrap it up until the tiered seating was installed and the retractable roof was working, a logistical nightmare that left me with dark circles under my eyes by the time I finished it at night while building several custom projects in my waking life. UGH! There are books that will help you with learning how to fully utilize your dream time, not the dream interpretation books that are quackery but how to dream and how to remember your dreams, how to let your subconscious mind sort out practical problems that you have a mental block against while you are awake, etc.
I think most people have experienced a traumatic moment that makes your buts run cold like ice water...

My first wife is psychotic, my younger brother is schizophrenic and my sister is bi-polar, so I understand your pain. People with mental illness often gravitate to caring people who they know will support them and even enable them. This organization offers instructional courses that help you cope with living with people with mental illnesses. My wife and I took their course when my schizophrenic brother had a psychotic episode and threatened to kill us, I think you will find them helpful. https://www.nami.org/

Logical and reasonable response to an illogical and unreasonable person, expect to need to reinforce this several more times before it starts to take hold in her consciousness. I hate renting because too many landlords feel that tenants are chattels for their amusement instead of a party they have entered into a business relationship with. It is interesting to note that American is the lingua franca of the business world, a bastardized language that is based upon the Queen's Good English as they say but with numerous terms and expressions stolen from other languages as well as new words and expressions invented out of thin air. Such is the nature of language, it's all about communication.
Why don't atheists like showing respect and kindness toward God believers?
Surfpirate comments on Jun 2, 2018:
Religious Believers are tasked by their faith to kill heretics and nonbelievers, burn us at the stake. How much respect and kindness can these believers show to those they are supposed to execute by slow torture? Atheists listen to the constant retarded delusions of these asshats and we turn the other cheek as often as possible but there is a line that we will not allow to be crossed. Who's the one being tolerant?

I do take pride in my work but making love is not work, having sex can be a bit like work but still more fun than work. I am able to take helpful direction from my lover but if you just relax and enjoy the ride it is usually pretty straightforward. Everybody climaxes, Everybody's happy.
