@zorialoki I just followed the terms of the lease as required by law. It wasn't about being generous but about compliance with the legal terms of an agreement as required by the Landlord and Tenant Act. I used to deal in a lot of contracts as a master builder, this was really cut and dry but she thought she could pull a fast one on me. I hate it when people refer to the people who are renting their income property as 'my tenants' as though they were a chattel that can be used or disposed of at whim. I could have been punitive towards her, the fine is a minimum of $5,000 for the shit she tried to pull but I try not to wrestle with pigs because no matter how hard you try you will always wind up getting shit on you.

@zorialoki I was renting an old farmhouse while building our new house, not a great place but rental housing is limited on the small island where I live. The rent was always paid in full and early, minor repairs I did myself and never charged for time or materials because I treat wherever I live as though it were my own. She had the house up for sale and we always accommodated the showings and made the place sparkle before the realtors showed up with clients and all I asked of her was some advanced notice before we had to vacate because our house was almost ready for occupancy and finding a short term rental for a few months would be expensive and very inconvenient. What does she do? She serves me with a letter demanding personal occupancy in the middle of winter with minimum notice, completely illegal under the lease as she is not occupying the property but just wants a few months to sort through her things that she has stored in the basement for years. I am in a property dispute over an illegal easement with a friend of hers, this is a petty attempt to get back at me for not caving in to her friend's demands. So I waited out the 2 months and then sent her a registered letter explaining that her request was denied because it was illegal, please serve proper forms with the required 120 day notice period for occupancy by the new owner and proof of sale to the new owner. She was incensed that I would stand up for my rights but she did comply and file the proper forms which I accepted and moved out early into my new house but paid all of the rent regardless.

@Athena It sounds like you want to have your cake and eat it too. I have stated that I have experienced things that I can't explain that for want of a better word had a ghostly appearance and that's where I drew the line. I didn't make some quantum leap to imply that there must be life after death, a heaven or a hell or a god for that matter, just that I have seen some things that I can't explain and that no one else has been able to explain to me either. You yourself seem to had similar experiences and didn't feel the need to attach divine intervention to these experiences and yet a surprising number of people do take offense at anyone suggesting that they have experienced something outside of the ordinary, something paranormal, unexplained or just highly unusual. It's as though they feel the need to defend their world view and refute any evidence that conflicts with that safe little reality they have built for themselves where everything is safe and normal and has a ready explanation. This is the part that I find irksome. I have always maintained that there is no valid concrete evidence for the existence of a god or gods and therefore I don't believe in them although I realize that many people do but I have also always maintained that if an actual god or gods presented themselves to me and proved their divine power then I would be willing to change my opinion on the topic. I'm not saying that I would fall down on my knees and worship them, I don't think a truly divine being would even want that of me but I would have to rethink a lot of assumptions I have about reality, something I call being open minded.

@Captain747ex I recently found out through DNA testing that I have absolutely 0% Native DNA in my blood, mostly English and French but no Native DNA. This was a real surprise because half of my family have a distinctly dark aspect about them that has always suggested Native heritage, to the point where those who looked the most native tended to deny it and play it down. Let's be fair though, it's about rights of conquest and I will admit that my English ancestors cheated and did some really nasty shit to win out in the end. The competition also did nasty shit to win but apparently not quite nasty enough, still we need to put this behind us and settle up with the winners and the almost winners. No point in lying about it, the history is there for all to see, especially if we read between the lines because the winners write the history books and they never speak badly of themselves. ;)

We can make the leap to the 'religion argument' but that isn't really sound logic now is it? I think the Flying Spaghetti Monster makes for a lovely graphic image but I have never seen one and I have seen other things but do not diagnose with any mental illnesses to explain what I have seen. So what we have is anecdotal evidence from all over the planet that suggests that 'something' is out there and we should probably keep an open mind like good scientists.

It's interesting to me - particularly since I embrace science - that one would ask why I "believe" in ghosts. The first crucial step in the scientific method is to have a mind that is open to asking the question 'What is this?' There was a time when science thought that 'Spontaneous Generation' was a basic tenet of biology, what naive fools we were. :D

This never seemed to make much sense even when I was a Christian. If we went to heaven/hell when we died, how is it that so many people said their families/friends visited them as ghosts? My Mom thinks that my brother's schizophrenia is 'demons' but it doesn't make it so. There are a lot of things that science has yet to discover and quantify but there is also a mindset that is stuck in tradition that will not allow for experimentation, the same mindset that poo pooed the ridiculous idea that such a thing as microbes existed because they could not be seen by the naked eye, viruses were even more fantastic beasts that were akin to unicorns. We move forward 3 steps and back 2 steps because most of us are unwilling to accept change.

@bigpawbullets Depends how many you are doing, little steps that save time and effort are rewarded with less lower back pain at the end of the task. I think I only have around 30 tomato plants this year and most of them are heirloom cherries that my wife puts in everything and a few variegated heirloom Romas that I will mostly turn into pasta sauce so I don't have to eat that red muck they sell at the store. If they are Romas it saves even more effort to nip off the bottom and the top, especially if you have a few bushel baskets to do. (y)
