What is your response when you ask a christian to physically show you god as to believe in him and ...
Surfpirate comments on Apr 25, 2018:
Duct tape their arms and legs to a chair so they can't move, then slip a plastic bag over their head and tape it securely in place around their neck. Ask them to indicate to you when they believe that air physically exists. Air proof in less than 3 minutes. ;)
Surfpirate replies on Apr 25, 2018:
@JustKip It depends how long you leave the bag on their heads. :D
How do you answer Pascal’s Wager?
JosephMullaney comments on Apr 24, 2018:
I feel the same way about garden gnomes. We should believe in them just in case and maybe they'll also help weed my gardens.
Surfpirate replies on Apr 24, 2018:
The person who invents a garden gnome that weeds the garden is going to make a pile of money.

Newborn is too mushy, better to fatten them up a bit for better texture and make a real meal of it. ;)
So I have a question about friendships between introverts and extroverts.
Surfpirate comments on Apr 24, 2018:
As an introverted Extrovert I can say from experience that you need to tread lightly with some introverts and respect their privacy or you can find you have run roughshod over them without even realizing it. I like smaller groups of interesting friends in laid back environments because I am the ...
Surfpirate replies on Apr 24, 2018:
I find it interesting when I hook into a person who is introverted and seems to be reserved to the point of timidity but is actually more of a combination of viper and chess master, tread lightly with those introverts as you may think that you are running the show but in reality you are just dinner waiting to be served. :D

I've always wanted a lawn or garden on my roof. I hope it catches on in the states. Massive rubber to waterproof it?
Surfpirate replies on Apr 24, 2018:
50 mil EPDM rubber membrane over top of sloped high density foam underlayment. One of the few jobs I subbed out but I wound up working with that crew as well because it was a small job and all I could get was a 2 man crew to come out to the island.
I suspect this could be the future.

@WileEQuixote Nobody is hungry enough to revolt yet, the cellphone and Netflix will be cut off long before that happens, so let's hope that it is a long time coming. I'd like to get my kids the hell out of there long before that happens.

Who is your favourite atheist comedian?
gsiamne comments on Apr 24, 2018:
I like many of those that have been mentioned. Yet, I also liked Sam Kinison. I have read that he was at one time a Pentecostal pastor but his further learning caused him to become an atheist and that is part of how he became a comedian.
Surfpirate replies on Apr 24, 2018:
As I mentioned to my chiropractor just this morning, 'If you want to answer some questions on the Bible then ask an Atheist because we've probably already read it cover to cover at least once'. The Bible is basically an instruction manual on how to become an Atheist in my experience. :D

KellyW comments on Apr 24, 2018:
Bill Maher, Jon Stewart, George Carlin are all favourites. Jim Jefferies is fast becoming a favourite though.

I had missed Jon Stewart for some reason but he's great and so is his replacement on the Daily Show - Trevor Noah.

I surprised to see a flat roofed building in an area that gets a lot of snow.
Surfpirate replies on Apr 24, 2018:
Better yet it is a green roof system so there will be 3" of lightweight growing medium and seedum growing on that roof by the end of this year. I designed the house based upon some houses my wife liked in Brazil, Argentina and Chile when we were living in South America, the engineering allows for 6' of snow to accumulate on the roof and the walls are 8" thick ICF reinforced concrete. Two thirds of the roofing in Canada is flat roof but just not that common in a residential application but since my background is in commercial construction it made sense for me to go with a flat roof. Here's a pic of the engineer roof joists that I installed with only the assistance of my extendahoe, the clear span is 26'.

Surfpirate replies on Apr 24, 2018:
@SilverDollarJedi It's true that much of the world paints Americans with a broad brush when it comes to their opinion of American foreign policy and American fundamentalism, generally because they have never lived in the US. My work took me abroad for several decades and I lived for several years in the US, my children all have dual American/Canadian citizenship and many of my friends are Americans, so I understand better than most that the US has been hijacked by fundamentalist christianity and corporatism. I don't paint Americans with the broad brush that most of the world does because I've actually been there and know that a majority of Americans are kind and decent people but they are under a lot of stress from the groups that are doing their best to undermine that kindness and decency. For the sake of my children who live in the US still and my American friends I am gravely concerned for the direction the US is headed in.

Interior of Tithe Barn, near Bath, England. Built in the early 14th century.

@UnityBrad Thanks for that, what I have read about the Kabbalah was probably of the misinterpreted variety as I quickly realized it was without any merit. Right up there with Knights Templar Freemasonry, Numerology, Sacred Numbers and other equally conspiratorial theories. I'll stick with Mathematics.

Are people not getting tired of making end-time predictions? I mean, they’ve been wrong literally 100% of time. If I were wrong every time, I would think that maybe my premise was flawed to begin with, but what do I know?
Surfpirate replies on Apr 23, 2018:
To be a fundamentalist christian that believes the end is nigh requires the suspension of reason so it's not that hard for them to just keep doing the same thing over and over again and still expecting a different result. Something which Einstein described as the definition of insanity.
