We need a govt. sponsored buy back program, like I think Australia did, to first start to make a dent in it. Secondly, we need new SC or a much more progressive congress, to ban assault weapons with a constitutional amendment. Until then, we are fucked... The ruling class is fine with our status quo on guns, because they don't care how many of us peasant are killed, since it only happens among the peasant class. Until it actually starts affecting the ruling class and the political class, nothing will be done. But if the peasants somehow started using their weapons against the political class on a widespread scale, or ever began using them on the ruling class, we would see action so fast it would make your head spin!

TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 27, 2022:
I think that is generally true here about Agnostic.com, Glen, unless you begin discussing the dating game and making any negative statements regarding any women in said game, no matter how much the statements are based on your personal experience. The sad fact is that most women on this site are so reflexively defensive of the sisterhood, that they have no tolerance for anything negative said about women in the dating game, no matter how much they may know it to be true. And the same thing with most men on here, they don't have the guts or integrity to stand up to those women I am referring to, either due to lack of courage, or their desire to curry favor with those women by lacking the integrity to admit it when they know a guy is being honest and right about something regarding women in the dating game. So, in summary, this is still not a safe or supportive place, like it used to be, for discussing one's online dating woes, at least if you are a man, and that is why almost no one but me is still willing to do or risk it here. And, as far as I can tell, with the many women who have blocked me over this subject, it also doesn't appear to be a place where women feel that safe or supportive, either, about sharing their experiences regarding online dating, because I don't see any posts from them either, even tho if they had me blocked, I would still see the post listed in the posts column for that group, not sure if that also is true for forum categories like Love And Relationships..
She makes a very valid point that they will deny and deflect.
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 27, 2022:
So true, they will deny and deflect, she should have gone on to say, that instead of about faith, it really is all about control and domination of those they hate...She was too polite about it and stopped short of confronting their phoniness completely as fake religion... As the Betty Bower's character, America's favorite Christian, said recently, it isn't at all about religion, "It's White Christian Nationalism, dressed up in Bible drag"..... And in the case of abortion bans, it's misogyny and patriarchy, dressed up in Bible drag. As Betty would say, "Glory!".
Here's why vandals sprayed graffiti at Focus on the Family headquarters
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 27, 2022:
I see nothing wrong with people from the left desecrating their self-righteous, pious, image with the graffiti. To me, the line that needs to be drawn is physical violence against people, not the damage to property. Destroying property to make a political point, while not preferable as a form of protest, is sometimes necessary to get public attention and make a point. I hope in this case it does make a point to the religious right, that our side is not just polite, meek people who will just nicely protest at rallies and make moral appeals, that in addition to that, we will publicly shame and tear down all of their masks of having some moral superiority to us by confronting their hypocrisy. I see nothing different here than the righteous gay men who spilled blood at Catholic churches and disrupted masses held by the cardinal in NYC during the AIDS crisis of the 80s and the leadership of the Catholic church condemning gays and blaming them for AIDS and their own deaths from it. Another example of righteous, justified anger resulting in property destruction, was in San Fransisco, back in the 1990s, when Dan White was acquitted for murdering Harvey Milk and George Masconi, a totally outrageous verdict, that outraged the gay community there, so at the end of a nightlong, candlelight march, that ended at City Hall, they smashed windows and justifiably vented their rage against the city government, including Diane Feinstein, who had supported White over Milk for years, and pushed for the acquittal. Sometimes, the right, as well as the centrists in power, need to be reminded that those on the left are not all meek, polite, sissies, who will tolerate outrageously being shit on without biting back, and being capable enough of violence to put some fear into their opponents of how ugly things will get if they are ignored and not given any concessions from those in power. The only reason we got progress in the 60s, was because of how much of a threat those in the left posed, unlike now, to act violently and disrupt the system. The progress then was never given to us out of the goodness of the hearts of the rich and corporations. Why we get no progress now, is because the rich and corporations are no longer afraid of us at all, mainly because people will not get out there in the streets and agitate the way they did back then, partly because the Dem Party is now much more corrupt than then, and also because now the cops are so militarized, that they are ready to mow us down successfully, even if we did get out there in tens of millions and raised hell like the old days. But the one thing we still have on our side, is that there are still way many more of us peasants, even tho half of them are MAGAs, than there are cops and military, so if we could somehow ...

That really is what it boils down to. I can't count the number of times I have heard a conservative say that kind of cut off my nose to spite my face line, usually it's something like "I don't want any right to healthcare for all or any national healthcare plan, because I don't want to have to share it with illegal aliens, black people, gay people, Muslims (insert any despised minority group here). And the people saying this are always working class white people, who would clearly benefit from a single payer system, with much better access to care and much lower costs for themselves, but no, they can't stand the idea of any of their taxes going to help members of groups they despise, or of having to share access and waiting rooms with members of those same groups. What fucking, bigoted idiots! For people on the right, who will never gain anything economically, by voting for Repubs, it really does come down to them voting Repub because, they hate the same people the voter hates.... So that tells you all you need to know about who is really pro life and who isn't..... The left also doesn't support the death penalty either, just to add that in there, since the right is hypocritical and inconsistent in that way too.

TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 23, 2022:
Nothing will happen, at least not from the govt., to protect queer folks and other perceived enemies of the right, and the attacks will continue. This culture war stuff is way too valuable to the ruling class to have the government end it and risk the masses waking up and possibly quit being divided over it, because then they might start voting in their own real economic interests and unite against the 1%. Because in America, the duopoly and the corporate media will only allow class war to be waged from one side, the 1% against the 99%.

It's the same idiots who are working poor or middle class, but keep voting Republican, because they are stupid enough to think they will be rich someday... Mass shooting at gay nightclub in Colorado Springs - Los Angeles Times
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 20, 2022:
When will liberals wake up and realize that, on some level, our civil war has already begun and been going on a while, as far as the right wing attacking obvious targets that they see as their political and cultural enemies? : Queer nightclubs and bars, minority-dominated stores and churches, liberal churches, synagogues, etc.. Time for any of those types of buildings and groups to have armed guards there at all times whenever they are open for business and having mass gatherings. I am not blaming those groups that have been targetted, but time to wake up and quit allowing themselves to be sitting ducks. It's not that fucking hard to know which places will and are being targeted, since mass shootings never seem to happen at places and groups that are supportive of right wing groups, so those who should be able to see they are likely targets, need to quit worshipping non-violence and pacifism as if it were some fucking religion and start reading some Malcom X instead, in other words, that self-defense is merely being intelligent... It almost seems like some people would rather just be sitting ducks for right wing terrorists and mass shooters, but for me, at least, I would rather be protected and ready, rather than some unprotected, righteous victim that chooses to be naive or voluntarily unprepared... And one more thing, those armed guards need adequate firepower, not just a six gun revolver, since the shooter will usually have an automatic firearm, body armor, and plenty of ammo, so the guards need to be well trained and armed for such attackers. It also might have helped to have had armed guards outside the club, searching patrons for firearms, so they might never have even gotten inside the club with that kind of security..

And BTW, big fucking deal if the Dems still technically control the Senate. How well has that been working out with Manchin and Sinema controlling all of the Dem agenda there? Ted Rall is one of my fav political cartoonists, because he tells the harsh truth, and with the kind of genuine rage and anger I feel about our system here. But you can bet the house on it that all of his suggestions will be dutifully ignored, because the DNC only cares about the corporate campaign cash and their donor class, not about getting anything done for the voters or their base, or even about winning elections. Only suckers still believe they care about winning more than their campaign money, their congressional pensions, and their place in the revolving door system between congress and careers later as lobbyists or corporate jobs after they leave office, all of which they can look forward to whether they are in control of DC or not. It's actually easier for them if they are out of power, because the perks mentioned above keep coming for them, and all they need to do is complain about the Repubs, with no pressure on the Dems to deliver or produce anything for the voters.

If a God existed, it would clearly be one who really enjoyed irony and cruel humor. Not surprisingly, life is full of irony, at least the way I and most thinking, intelligent people see it. So those who cannot understand or appreciate the frequent irony in life are asleep while awake, or just not paying attention, unless they are just too fucking stupid to even get the concept in the first place... They are also unlikely to be able to understand humor, unless it is the most simple and base forms of it.

Cats have 9 lives. You are not a cat...
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 12, 2022:
I have something like that on my T-shirt, which has an image of a cat as a rapper with bling and everything. It says, " Ready To Die Nine Times" and " The Notorius C.A. T."...
Somehow I missed this.
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 12, 2022:
I used to love it when radical groups used to smash pies in the faces of asshole leaders or celebs that were corrupt or right wingers, but that was in more innocent days when they wouldn't be fatally shot on the spot for daring to assault their betters... Nowadays, it would be a death sentence to get that close to a member of the ruling class and try it..
Somehow I missed this.

Looks like he did no real damage and scored no hits on the royals, but he will get a short jail sentence and a fine, no doubt, anyway...Too bad he was in the UK, instead of America, where this kind of free speech, if you're a right winger, is protected from any real punishment.

I have no idea what the dating pool is like here on Agnostic in your local area for your age group, but for the vast majority of us, it is piss poor. Agnostic has never really offered any local dating options for members, and it has got even worse in recent years, as almost all new members quickly figured this out, and left the site immediately, rather than staying and participating in the community. Also, a lot of members left in the last couple years from being tired of the bullshit and fighting on the forums.
Are women really after money in a relationship than true love please let me know......
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 11, 2022:
In my experience, usually not. The problem I run into most often these days with online dating, that is related somewhat to this, is that most women who are college-educated and white collar professionals themselves, will not date a man who is not also a so-called "successful professional" man, not so much because he may not have a high income or be financially secure and comfortable, but because he does not have enough of a high status career to brag about or show off to her friends and family, so the woman won't date a man like that because it would be embarrassing to her, even if he is just as intelligent and educated as her, and has the same money available as her for travel, entertainment, dining out, etc. It's all about status and social class.
Why are women afraid to breakup in a relationship than men
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 11, 2022:
In my experience, most of them have no problem breaking up with men, more often the problem is doing it with some class and kindness, rather than being callous and hurtful or dishonest about it.

We all understand how projection is so closely tied to Republican behavior.
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 6, 2022:
Well, if you are on the left, then I agree, you do need a gun, because you will get no protection from the authorities, against the right wing groups. There may be some exceptions to that in the most blue parts of the country, but everywhere else, yes, you will be on your own...
Discussing the prospect for civil war,.
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 6, 2022:
What efforts by the Dems to address the class war waged by the wealthy? You give that corrupt, corporate run party way too much credit. You must have slept thru the DLC years and the three decades since Bill Clinton started the neoliberal new Dem Party. The reason the Repubs have been winning and that we got Trump was the betrayal of the working class for decades by the Dems. And they are going to lose big time on Tue., and deservedly so, because too many people have caught on to their bullshit game and will either not vote or vote Repub, just to express their reactionary hate and fears of anyone different than them, since they know neither party gives a rat's ass about their economic problems.

Well, as Woody Allen used to say, before he became known as a creepy pedophile, "More than any other time in history, mankind faces a crossroads. One path leads to hopelessness and utter despair. The other leads to total extinction. Let us pray we have the wisdom to choose correctly"..... Sometimes the only ways to react, is to laugh or cry (my own take on the Allen quote)..
Kroger to pay $180K for firing Christians who wouldn't wear heart symbol
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 5, 2022:
As about any person who has watched the movie Office Space knows, employers shouldn't be requiring their employees to wear stupid buttons or flair on the job just to promote some corporate image. An employee name tag, sure, just so customers know the person actually works there and who they should blame for bad service, but beyond that, required buttons or tags for employees are bullshit, and companies with strong unions don't get away with that shit, only the exploitive, lower wage employers, it seems, these days.
Is church decline something to celebrate? That depends [onlysky.media]
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 4, 2022:
It all depends on the content and character of each church or the denomination it may be a part of. Some serve some social good and some don't.

Why is his clearly serious, sincere hate speech left up on You Tube, when just yesterday FB sent me a nastygram threatening me for having posted a joking meme about shooting Ted Cruz if he came to my door dressed as werewolf, which he was in the meme? They removed my post immediately, even tho I got it from here on Agnostic, and the poster on here got it from FB himself. Can you say double standard, even tho I am talking about two separate platforms? I thought you could...

It was a weird program to say the least, Seinfeld's comedy is an acquired taste that I never quite ...
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 1, 2022:
I never got into that show too much, as the characters were generally very unlikeable people. Very selfish, often abrasive, not very honest, etc. Not at all the sort of people I would choose or have as friends, so why watch them? Very little kindness was ever practiced on that show. Seemed like everybody's main motivation was to either get ahead of others or get one over on somebody else. I have never been interested in doing that to or with other people in my life. Maybe I just have the wrong mindset for being an American or a person living in a capitalist society? I left being competitive behind once I became an adult and was done with playing sports in school..

TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 1, 2022:
Well said. That is the biggest thing wrong with Libertarians and conservatives, that, unlike most of us as far back as kindergarten, they never learned how to share, and to appreciate and accept fairness between people as being important. Having said that, I personally despise the term or label liberal, because I see it misused for or claimed by way too many people who are only "liberal" on issues of identity politics and culture war issues. These same people don't care a whit about economic justice, economic inequality, fair taxes, endless wars, etc. and are just fine with the status quo of American capitalism. To me, they are liberal in only a very selfish, self-serving way that furthers their own personal interests, such as gay rights, separation of church and state, or environmentalism, but nothing to change the rigged system of who is exploited and who gets and stays rich and holds all the power in the system. Thus, I prefer better labels, like socialist or progressive, for those who are lefty across the spectrum on issues, and something else, but not liberal, for those who are conservative on all things economic and liberal or lefty on everything else. Because otherwise, they are able to pretend to be on the opposite side of where they are in the class war, which, next to climate change, is by far the most important issue of our time. And by my standards and definition of liberal, those people are anything but liberal, as they are very selfish, tho not morons by any means...
The real difference between Atheist and religious people
TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 1, 2022:
I agree, because when you only go around once in this existence, and there is no afterlife, making this life and existence count and stand for something, is even more important, than when there is some afterlife and an opportunity to be rewarded or work things out after death, etc.. And it also makes it clearer that few things in this life are worth dying for, including wars that benefit only the rich and powerful.

TomMcGiverin comments on Nov 1, 2022:
There's no way the public schools will ever touch this subject, and why would anyone expect the corporate media to cover it either, since they are perfectly fine with a fascist government, since, by definition, it would be corporate friendly?
