Ron Johnson Suggests Putting Social Security, Medicare up for Cuts Every Year
TomMcGiverin comments on Aug 4, 2022:
How about instead of passing bigger defense budgets each years, with votes that are almost all Yeses, that we start cutting the defense budget every year, in order to cut the national debt? Along with repealing the Trump tax cuts and restore the marginal tax rate to the Eisenhower years level? Don't want to do that?, then it shows that it's not about the national debt at all, it's about beating up on the poor and lower classes, and favoring the rich and corporations. What a fucking, lying hypocrite!
True! Atheists in the Pulpit: Clergy Who Are Non-Believers How Many Atheist Clergy Are There?
TomMcGiverin comments on Aug 4, 2022:
This doesn't surprise me at all, and I do think that clergy who lose their belief in religion deserve compassion and sympathy, rather than condemnation. The other thing is, they can always stay in the clergy as a non-believer, and not have to lie, by switching to the Unitarian Universalist Church, which is currently really hard up for clergy, mostly due to the high cost of their seminaries. They get no financial support from churches for their seminaries, compared to Christian and Catholic seminaries. The other common path for people who leave the clergy, but still want to help people, is that they become social workers, therapists, or counselors. By the time they leave the clergy, they are usually too old to want to go back to college and get a teaching degree, tho that would be a natural fit for them, so they go with one of the three paths I mentioned together.

Gee, I wonder why nobody, except maybe me, ever posts here anymore about their real life experiences with dating? Probably the same reasons nobody has commented yet on my post or why when anyone does post here about dating, it either has to be someone new to the site that doesn't know how harsh and argumentative this subject has become here, or someone who's been here a while and realizes the only safe thing to post here is humorous posts about what stupid things they've encountered with dating. Because it's become clear that if someone posts about any negative experiences with dating, and shows any honest, vulnerable, sincere feelings, including hurt or anger, they will not get much support, validation, or helpful sharing of the commenter's personal experiences and perspectives that might be helpful or constructive, esp. if the poster is a man. Instead, they will get negative judgement, criticism, and usually blame as well as unsolicited advice, sometimes from people who are "here for community only", and have been out of the dating game for decades, as if they would still know much about the poster's experience in these times. Yeah, I think that pretty well covers it as to why almost nobody will put themselves out here to openly and honestly share their dating woes.... My brother and one of my sisters, along with me, were competitve swimmers for many years as kids. My father saved me from drowning one night at a family night open swim when a much older high school kid held me under the water and was really trying to drown me, thinking it was all very funny. Imagine my pleasure later on in my life when I heard the story that my high school choir director had gotten mad about that same kid lipping off to him in choir practice and had grabbed him by the neck, thrown him against the wall, and held him up there, in front of the whole class, even tho the kid was much bigger than him and on the football team. I heard the kid about pissed his pants in fear. Back then, teachers and coaches could get away with handing out some of that good ole frontier justice.... To me, it felt like vicarious revenge... My father gave me plenty of abuse as a kid, but this incident proved that he really did care about me when it really came down to it, and he put the fear of God, so to speak, into the kid that was drowning me, so I was always grateful for that, in spite of everything else... I got my share of bullying as a kid, and this was the one time that anybody ever stood up for me.

I agree. I had a personal spat with Hippie Chick48 somewhere on this site, in a forum, so she blocked me from her personally, but also kicked me out of the Trump Pinata group(which she moderates), which I really enjoyed reading the posts and commenting in. I had never had any problems or arguments within that group and I really doubt most or even any other members of that group, besides her, had any problems with me or wanted me kicked out of the group. But she decided to be petty and abuse her power as group mod to block me from the group, and most likely she did it without any consultation with the other group members. You're goddamn right, it isn't fair and it stinks, that one person gets to have that kind of power regarding a whole forum group, without any accountability or restrictions. Just goes to show that absolute power corrupts absolutely. It would be really interesting to see Hippie Chick, or the person who blocked you from your group, Krish55, show up here and try to justify or defend their decisions, but I'm not holding my breath that either one would have the guts to do it. I also see that HippieChick reacted to your post with a hugs emoji. Hypocrisy much, Paula? TomMcGiverin comments on Jul 28, 2022:
Unfortunately you are so right. Back in the day, public hangings and lynchings were festive events and people even brought their kids to it. I live in Iowa, so that qualifies just as much for the middle of flyover country. Most people have not changed that much since those old days of public executions, at least not the ones that vote Repub. No wonder the series of Purge movies even came to include foreign tourists coming to America to participate in the night of purging where they could get away with murder and all other crimes that were still illegal in their own countries. That seems to be where we are heading, a dystopian future that is a mix of The Handmaid's Tale and the Purge movies. But as far as I'm concerned, when it's getting close, I will buy and learn to shoot my gun, so I can kill some of these pricks as they come to get me, as I doubt we will get any protection from the cops or the military. And if my side somehow decides to organize and fight them in the streets, I am up for that too.., but I really doubt they will. We will be on our own as individuals, as most libs are content to keep their heads in the sand as to what's coming, and will just smugly assume they will be ok because of their comfortable finances.... they obviously haven't watched the Purge movies, where armed mobs come and break into the buildings and homes of whoever they want to kill. Even gated communities will not be safe from militias going hunting libs, even well off ones... They will only be safe if they arm themselves or hire bodyguards, unless they decide to just flee their homes and communities permanently. My guess is that libs with the money will just flee the country and emigrate somewhere else.
Let's talk about Republicans bizarre request of DOD.
TomMcGiverin comments on Jul 28, 2022:
The request is bullshit. The FBI investigations into the Jan. 6 rioters proved conclusively that many or most of the rioters were military veterans or current military, so this is the opposite of voter fraud, which the Repubs are gung ho about investigating, even tho it is extremely rare and usually done by Repub voters. They are simply trying to protect their followers in the military and to ensure that the military continues to be mostly made up of right wing extremists, so that when civil war comes, or even if it doesn't, that the military will stay sympathetic to the anti-democratic authoritarian groups.

Sometimes I have seen women with that line in their profile and, at least here in the Midwest, where people tend to be more modest and indirect regarding sex, they are hinting that they are just seeking casual sex and not any kind of deep or permanent relationship. Women here are more likely to use code words than be direct about what they are seeking. I have a feeling that on the coasts, where the social norms are different, they are probably more open about what they want and are seeking regarding sex and relationship interests.

What is the silliest profile comment you've seen on a singles dating site?
TomMcGiverin comments on Jul 28, 2022:
Another thing that is really grating, in women's profiles, or men's for that matter, is when they write something like " I don't know quite what I am looking for in a partner, but I will know it when I see it" or some other conceited type of statement. What they fail to recognize, or even care about, is that for the most part in online dating, the men do the pursuing and send the initial messaging, unless maybe the man is exceptionally attractive looking, or the women live on either coast, where maybe the women are more aggressive and bold about making the first move on a dating site. And of course, the women that do write something like the above conceited statement, are always a 7 or 8 in looks (out of ten) so they know they will still get lots of interest from men even without giving any info about what they are looking for or even about themselves, since they know they have the pick of the litter.... So if the woman doesn't even write a profile essay or say something about what they are seeking in a partner, how does the guy have any idea if he might be compatible with them, at least in the woman's eyes? He doesn't, and that is why I never message anyone who has so little info in their profile about what they are looking for in a man. Because we get enough rejection as it is and it's not worth risking more of it or wasting time and effort in messaging if the woman's profile offers little evidence that they might be mutually compatible. I know, of course, that we are always taking a risk in messaging someone that we will be rejected, but I like to limit my messaging to just the women that seem like they at least might be interested in me and vice versa. Which is why I got so pissed when Match, a couple years ago now, took away the member's ability to view someone's profile and see which traits they were looking for in a partner in the traits checklist near the end of the profile. Because now we are pretty much flying blind in deciding who to pursue with messaging, unless the woman says something in her profile essay about what she is looking for, which few of them do nowadays. In fact, most of them don't even write anything in their profile for that part of it.

I still have my own standards, but it appears that about anything goes nowadays, as long as the business allows it. When I drove the school bus several years ago, there were sometimes kids that wore pajamas on the bus. Sometimes it was because the schools actually had special days once in a while where they encouraged the kids to wear pajamas, while with one female high school student who was in a youth shelter, she was just plain lazy and would wear pajamas because she didn't care how she looked. It also reminds me of how the Trumper guy in his early 60s, like me, wears the same black sleeveless shirt all the time, along with sweatpants, every day so far this summer. I think his going sleeveless is gross, especially since it doesn't cover his body around the waist, but the senior center appears to have no rules on clothing other than requiring shirts and not allowing obscene or vulgar language on clothing. Some people just have no class, such as him. I'm self aware enough to have figured out in my early thirties, that I no longer looked good in a sleevless shirt, and that several years earlier it was also time to no longer wear Speedos in the pool. Some people just never catch on to how their body has changed and aged.... or maybe they do and they just don't care, but I think that is still kind of arrogant and tacky...

TomMcGiverin comments on Jul 24, 2022:
Well, the video certainly explained at least some of why I have never been hooked by this type of woman. I don't have the first two traits she talked about, the Protector trait and Helper. Hero trait. The reason for this is that I learned long ago to quit being co-dependent, and thus don't need or want a woman who needs a protector or hero, just someone who has integrity, is loving, and is nurturing and supportive. I have only wanted women who were strong and independent. I guess I should feel lucky that I lack these two traits, so these sick women have left me alone. On the other hand, maybe lots of the women in my online dating pool are this NPD type, so it could account for part of why I get so much rejection from my online dating pool, but I doubt it, since my profile by itself can't be that much of a tipoff to them about who I am. I would assume these women need to actually meet you and spend some time with you to be able to determine you are their type of victim.

You live in NM, which is probably way more tolerant of non-belief than Iowa. You would never get away with it here, vandalism would be certain. I do wear my Agnostic shirt in public sometimes, but rarely to bars for karaoke, because there the combination of redneck assholes and alcohol would ensure bullying on a regular basis. And these days, I seem to get bullied and harassed enough as it is at karaoke simply for not singing country songs, instead singing alt rock, and looking too much like a lib wimp to the bullies.

I have to agree with all of it. I esp. like how he blows up the overuse of PC, which I loathe to begin with, and his point that the inflationary use of words is all done to stifle/narrow thought and spread propaganda instead of truth.
Republicans increasingly viewed by Americans as the party of violence
TomMcGiverin comments on Jul 22, 2022:
Well duh. They should be viewed as the party of violence, after the insurrection and the repeated rallies against Covid restrictions where their supporters would show up at state capitals carrying their guns and threatening legislators with violence.

I agree with everything you said, and because I believe that most Americans are not someone I would trust to be smart and reasonable enough to use guns wisely, I don't want vigilantes to become respectable and above the law in America. Hell, I don't even trust most people enough to allow them to carry guns, but I am outnumbered in that respect. I think only bad will come of more people feeling emboldened to play vigilante, and that it will lead to our country becoming more like the Purge movies, only instead of being one night a year, it will be every day.

That actually seems rather wise and profound. Reminds me of a couple things an old friend told me, that we are all works in progress and each writing our own essay on existence.. On the other hand, it is also clear that many people simply sleepwalk their way thru life, never examine themselves or anything in their life, and in some ways are no more aware or conscious of higher things than animals.
Bill Maher's False Flag Supply | Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO) - YouTube
TomMcGiverin comments on Jul 19, 2022:
Not that much of an exaggeration, at least of the Trumpers I have seen in Iowa. They are mostly ugly, ignorant rednecks, and a typical one is the guy at my local senior center. He has shown up every day this summer wearing a sleeveless black T-shirt. It looks absolutely disgusting, because he has a huge beer gut and the shirt is always showing some of his lower belly and top of his ass. I have complained to the site director that his clothing is indecent and gross-looking, as he wears the same shirt about every time, but she won't do anything, saying the site has no clothing rules, but the real reason is probably that she doesn't want to have a stink about him feeling picked on because he is a Trumper or possibly too poor to afford appropriate clothing. But his attire is just this side of not wearing a shirt, which I know would get him barred from being in the room. On the other hand, in the time since the insurrection, the FBI investigations of the rioters charged in the event, it appears that the majority of them were not ignorant rednecks or were lower class men, but instead were often military veterans or even current or former members of law enforcement. So Maher's stereotype, while accurate of most men at Trump rallies, does not actually fit most of the Jan. 6 rioters..
Joe needs to go. But we still need to gain two seats to get him in line.
TomMcGiverin comments on Jul 19, 2022:
I would feel so unsympathetic to see him assassinated, but it would never happen, and even if it did, he would be replaced by a Repub appointee that would be worse. As for needing two more Dems in the Senate to force him and Sinema to cooperate, I bet that behind those two obvious traitors to the Dems, there are probably at least another six to ten Dem senators who are just as corrupt and happy to sabotage progressive legislation. Right now Manchin and Sinema are glad to play the villains for the Dems, so the rest of them don't have to show their true colors as much or openly as those two.
What side are you on?
TomMcGiverin comments on Jul 19, 2022:
No shit. The high gas prices are pretty new, what isn't new at all is the decades long class war against the 99% by the rich, corporate America, and the duopoly in DC, which have been responsible for all of those shitty economic policies. Both major parties are equally responsible for all the shitty policies that have kept the 99% poorer for the benefit of the 1%. For every Manchin or Sinema, there are several more corrupt Dems in the Senate ready to block any progressive legislation.

Capitalism - just doing what it does best!
TomMcGiverin comments on Jul 17, 2022:
Yup, it's all about the peasants working hard to make the rich even richer. Capitalism is designed for all the wealth to flow up to the top, never to be shared equally between most members of the economy. I never bought into the propaganda, and thus have rightfully hated ever business owner I ever worked for, as they typified the attitude in the above meme. They have nothing but contempt for us peasants, including their own employees, so why should I have any positive feelings about them? I just was smart enough to conceal my feelings during me working years while at the jobs... While waiting for the track and field coverage to start today on CNBC, I watched a small bit of Undercover Boss, and it made me want to puke, with these CEOs going rather poorly undercover as worker peasants, and trying to act humble and benevolent to their worker bees. What a crock this show is! It disgusts me that it is so popular and that most people still buy the myth that CEOs are nice, good-hearted people, instead of greedy sociopaths.... In most American companies, the bulk of any rewards or bonuses for performance only go to the managers of a local branch of the company, not to the grunt workers who actually made it happen at the local level.

I stay out of viewing the posts from the Conservative Atheists group, as I have no interest in hearing their bullshit, however, I am unable to avoid running into them often on the Politics forum and sometimes other non-political groups (at least in theory), like the two dating groups, and the Singles/Mingle group. To me, they are people who enjoy freedom from religion without any Humanist values or principles, while I am very much a Secular Humanist and Socialist, so there is no common ground beyond non-belief in religion.

The pickings look really slim in your area on this site. Nobody that's been on the site in the last year. So unless you are willing to date long distance with someone from Agnostic, I would recommend sticking with the regular paid dating sites. Agnostic.com has never been a viable dating site for most of its members, except for a very few large metro areas in the US.
Hi everyone, I'm brand new to the group and pretty new to the site.
TomMcGiverin comments on Jul 14, 2022:
Rotsa ruck... I saved you the trouble of running down the women in your area on this site that might be your age. Only one of them has been on here recently, and the rest from your area, Florida, have been gone for a year or more. Pretty typical for the last few years, as most people realized this is not a viable dating site for most people in the US, unless they want to date long distance. I totally hear you on the profiles in regular dating sites, like my local dating pool on Match. Most profiles of women are very strongly religious. I just pass those by, the same as women with lots of photos of their family and plenty of statements about how family oriented they are, etc. Since I know from experience, that they will never agree to date a childfree guy like myself who is not family-oriented. When the profile lists them as Christian Other, that usually means, in my experience with Match, that they are members of a non-denominational church. The point is, they are unlikely to be compatible.
