Americans Have Lost Confidence in Government, Religion, but Not Unions
TomMcGiverin comments on Jul 7, 2022:
With the way the Dem Party has sold out to corporations, unions are about the only thing left, for most workers, that stands between them and neo-feudalism, where corporations are the new ruling families that own and run everything.

TomMcGiverin comments on Jul 7, 2022:
I'm sure I could have passed the physical tests as far as performance based activity stuff, but may well have been rejected on stuff found in the medical exam, such as my atril fib heart condition, back in my early fifties, but I know I could never pass those performance tests after my late 50s. Are they talking about stuff you need to pass just to become a cop, or about stuff you have to keep passing on a regular basis even after you are on the job? I bet most cops in their fifties probably couldn't pass those tests in their later years on the job. I used to play full court basketball until my late forties, so I know I could have run a mile and half in under 12 min. or less back then.
Americans Have Lost Confidence in Government, Religion, but Not Unions
TomMcGiverin comments on Jul 6, 2022:
It all depends on the union, some of them are honest, some are corrupt. Some are actually on the side of the their rank and file members, some have leaders that are more on the side of Repubs and management than the workers. Nowadays most of the unions that are still left, are public employees unions, since in private industry, most unions were broken long ago and everybody scabbed out. In general, I would much rather work in a job that had a union representing me, and gladly pay dues, than work in a non-union job.

'A recipe for a lot of suffering': How abortion bans may strain the red states - CNNPolitics
TomMcGiverin comments on Jul 5, 2022:
The anti- abortion conservatives don't care about suffering by those their policies affect. In fact, they believe that suffering, as long as it is not done by them, improves the person's character, while some of them may even get sadistic pleasure in knowing their policies cause suffering to the people they hate. To them, females who have sex outside of procreation are immoral, so they deserve what suffering they get, so the mindset goes... For some reason, they seem less interested in the men involved.

TomMcGiverin comments on Jul 5, 2022:
It may look that way to you, but the obvious truth to those of us who have stayed is that the community has actually shrunk greatly since you left. New people rarely show up here these days, the vast majority of people left quite a while ago, mostly because they realized this site was useless for dating, others because they got tired of the squabbling on the forums, and nowadays there are probably only a few hundred active members who visit frequently and post or comment. Also, the admin. has been absent for at least a couple years from here. For what it's worth, welcome back..... I also know that a lot of members from here went to a FB group for refugees or escapees from here, started by a former member of here. I joined it for a short time, but then got banned from it by the group's founder, who had gotten banned from here before that. She got petty and power mad over there, what a surprise-not!

They are the main reason that both major parties are no longer responsive to what the majority of Americans want that are also in opposition to what the corporate donors oppose, because those things would cost the corporations in lower profits and higher taxes.

The SC has recently ripped off the veil hiding how it has become just as partisan as congress, so why should they be any more protected than our congress critters from public protest outside their homes? They brought this on themselves, have lost the respect of most Americans, and are no longer seen as legitimately impartial or above the other two branches of government. Too bad they aren't happy with it and are scared. But I doubt any of that will deter them from further destroying our country.
Not prosecuting Trump for Jan. 6 would fuel a 'much graver threat,' Liz Cheney says
TomMcGiverin comments on Jul 4, 2022:
Those kind of decisions always have later consequences, such as Nixon being pardoned after Watergate, Reagan not being impeached over Iran-Contra, and finally Bush and Cheney not being prosecuted as war criminals for Iraq. Each time this happens, it lowers the bar on what is acceptable conduct and policy for an administration and the later ones feel even more emboldened and immune from consequences for their actions. It's got to the point where the only thing they have to fear for misconduct is not being re-elected, if even that. And in Trump's case, he almost got elected again..

Where Does This Test Put You?
TomMcGiverin comments on Jul 2, 2022:
I agree that the quiz is flawed because it makes no distinction between attendance or participation in something that is a secular as a Unitarian church and similar involvement in a mainstream Christian or Catholic church. Some non-believers are very involved in such Unitarian churches, but it doesn't make them at all religious. Few Unitarians are, they just want to be part of some community where they can openly be who they are and their kids can have some sort of education about humanism and world religions. It gives their kids a way to be part of a peer group that is not religious so they don't have to fake it and join their school peers in a youth group at a church that is religious.
Where Does This Test Put You?
TomMcGiverin comments on Jul 2, 2022:
I'm SS, like everybody else. I took a similar quiz, from the same source, Pew Research, on political typology, and measured as Progressive Left, which was no surprise at all to me. Put me in a very small minority of Americans, and most closely aligned with Bernie Sanders. None of that surprised me either, but I bet a lot of people who vote for mainstream Dems would find, by taking such a quiz, that they agree with progressives like Bernie more than mainstream corporate Dems, but they got turned off by the socialist label, despite how much they agree with him on policy. For that we can thank the good ole DNC and the corporate media, for crushing their hopes for something better than the statue quo and convincing them that any vote for someone not likely to win is wasted. So they hold their nose and vote for corporate Dems they really don't agree with or don't vote at all.

I agree that those terms are commonly used by women, but not by the ones I partner with nor am friends with. I prefer genuine, honest conversations and will settle for no less. While the meme is mean to be humorous or tongue in cheek, this is not what I will settle for with women or men that I have in my life. If they want to play games or use code words instead of being honest and open with me about their feelings, I will dump them and not look back. Life is too short for the aggravations and games of this kind of communication being common. Same with walking on eggshells around someone emotionally because of their angry, passive-aggressive style... Maybe I'm over sensitive or serious, but I think the meme is sort of misogynistic.

TomMcGiverin comments on Jul 1, 2022:
Simple. The SC always rules in favor of whichever part has more money and power, like corporations or the rich. The common welfare of the peasants quit mattering to them long ago. We still get to vote, but we no longer have any real power in DC, with the prez, congress, or the SC. Unless a majority of eligible voters decide to start voting third party, but they won't, with a corporate media that brainwashed them in believing a third party vote is always wasted and they continue to support the two major parties, because of all the political ad money they give them. We have no way out of this with the two major parties, and if we don't dump them, then violent revolution is inevitable.

So the guy I've been crushing on chose someone else.
TomMcGiverin comments on Jul 1, 2022:
Sounds like too much of an age difference to begin with. I lose out all the time in the online dating game, just have to roll with it. A woman gets interest from a whole bunch of men, then begins messaging with maybe ten of them, or more. Ends up meeting six of them in person, then chooses a couple or maybe just one to continue seeing. It is exactly like the hiring process for a job. Just because you get a reply from the woman to begin with, it means little, as there is so much competition and there are always at least a few different stages to the process before the person chooses their top pick or top three picks at most. You have to realize that you can be rejected for good at any stage of the process, so I assume nothing about where I stand with them until they either reject me or decide they want to keep on seeing me after the first in person meeting. As an average-looking man in the online dating game, who is so much of an outlier in my dating pool, the process is always shorter and simpler for me, as I have never been messaging at any given time with more than six new women. Usually it is much less than that. So it doesn't take me that long to settle on one or two women to see more than once, after the first in person meeting. On my end, at any given time, the women I connect with on Match, have very little competition for me, on their end, it's usually a who different story, esp. or at least if they are new to the site.

She always puts business interests ahead of the health and welfare of the peasants, same as she did with Covid, lifting restrictions way too early and letting the virus run wild in the state. Can't let those lazy workers sit at home sheltering from the virus or let those businesses miss out on their profits. And it's already clear the bitch will get re-elected in Nov. ..... The vast majority of us in the cities here hate her, but in rural Iowa she gets almost all the votes, so they have us outnumbered, for now at least. TomMcGiverin comments on Jun 29, 2022:
I was saying since the Dem primary season began for the last prez election that Biden had obvious dementia. Nice to see someone else bring it up again. Harris couldn't do anything worse in the next two years, tho I think she is just as corrupt as him and I hate her just as much. I have no doubt, tho, that if she did finish his term, there is no way she would be elected on her own to succeed him. America is still not ready to elect a Dem woman prez, esp. not a black one, after the way so many white Americans lost their shit over Obama being elected. I didn't want Biden or Harris, I wanted Bernie, so in two years I don't know who I will support for prez, probably hold my nose, as I usually do and vote for the Dem nominee as a lesser evil, unless we finally get a third party candidate that can poll high enough to get into the presidential debates. But it doesn't matter much, because my vote in the red state of Iowa will have no impact on who wins the electoral votes from my state.

Third, I have no doubt he is a very lonely person and he may be using the dating site simply to find an audience for his lectures on aliens, even if he may know it will never lead to him finding a dating partner or even a new friend. Sounds like he is just desperate for an audience, any audience, for his shit.. Sorry it happened, but you handled it well and are none the worse for wear...
Any sense there is truth in this thought? If you believe so.. what might be the reason?
TomMcGiverin comments on Jun 27, 2022:
I honestly don't know if I agree with that or not. I do know that there seems to be a trend in the dating scene, at least for the younger ages of singles, where women do seem to prefer the bad boys to that nice guys that have more respect for women. All I do know concerning the dating preferences of women my own age, is that almost all the profiles I see on Match contain something in the essay part to the effect of saying they want a man who values communication, respects her, values compromise, etc. Whether that is all a bunch of happy talk and posturing by women and not actually sincere or what they really want, I have no idea. I can't read minds and I do know from over three years experience on Match that a lot of women simply write the same cliches in their profile essays that have nothing to do with what they seem to really value in choosing a partner, such as looks, money, or social status, etc. So I guess the best you can do as far as getting an answer is hope the women on here reading this will respond and give you an honest answer. I like to think I respect women, and my female friends think I do, tho I know plenty of women on here think I don't, and have blocked me for it. But I think that is more about them not liking my blunt, confrontive nature when I see male-bashing or insincere posturing going on here on Agnostic. This guy has been widowed for five years now and alone for most of that time despite being on Match for most of that time, after a good long marriage that proved that I respected, valued and treated my late wife right, so I submit that as my proof or human credential, as Mulder said about Scully in The X-Files TV show, and people can either take or leave that in making their own judgements about me.

And we all know that if a Dem congressperson had done the same thing after a SC ruling that went against the MAGA crowd that was gathered there, the crowd would have at least attacked the Dem and put them in the hospital, if not killed them. That is the difference between political supporters on the left and those on the right... Which is why the bullshit about the "violent" protesters at BLM rallies is exactly that, has no comparison to how the foot soldiers of the right and Repub party act in public. Most Repubs and all of those on the right believe violence against their political opponents is not only right, it is justified and even necessary, in their eyes, to "save the country". I'm glad, but not surprised, that no one beat her in the crowd, but honestly, if someone had, I would have felt no sympathy for her, as she was recklessly trying to provoke it from them. It's like Protestants marching thru a Catholic neighborhood in Northern Ireland and celebrating a Protestant holiday there. You do have a legal right to do it, but it is probably not the smartest move, and you shouldn't be surprised if the residents greet you by throwing bricks or worse at you. When you shove your arrogance in the face of people's pride, don't be surprised when they react with furious anger... I also notice that she brought some security people with her. That was the one smart move...

It's about as meaningless and worthless as saying you are for Mom, America, and apple pie.... unless you are a religious fundamentalist..... and even then, you have nothing in the Bible to back up your opposition to abortion..
Any comments from the conservatives on this site in regards to the recent court rulings?

They have been noticeably absent or silent, but maybe that's because I have about all of them blocked. Have you seen anything from them the last few days?

SCOTUS new robes.
TomMcGiverin comments on Jun 25, 2022:
In fairness, Roberts did vote to uphold Roe, so maybe he doesn't deserve the pope outfit, but he may well have voted that way since he already knew it wouldn't affect the outcome.

Too many were too complacent. We now have to fight like hell.
TomMcGiverin comments on Jun 25, 2022:
I never said it wouldn't eventually happen. What I did say, was that the Repubs, and their people on the SC, would never do it as long as they knew it would cost them most federal elections, the same as the civil rights laws of the 60s cost the Dem Party the South from then on in elections. But now that the Repubs have passed voter suppression laws in so many key states, they know they can still win elections there even if most people don't want to vote for them or their policies. So that's why they finally pulled the trigger on Roe, because they don't need to fairly win elections anymore in those states and can still win the WH and control DC, no matter how many women start voting against them in the backlash against this decision. As they might say in chess, they were waiting until they were in position to checkmate before making their big move....

TomMcGiverin comments on Jun 24, 2022:
No shit! The root cause of what happened today is the forty years of voting for corporate Dems, who then abandoned the working class in favor of their corporate masters. Which led to the working class voters, esp. white males, abandoning the Dem Party and voting instead for Repubs. Which led to Trump being elected because, even tho he lied about it, he at least addressed the grievances of the working class, so they took a chance and voted for him. Which led to the three shithead justices appointed by Trump. So here we are, thanks a lot corporate Dems, your collusion with the Repubs has paid off in spades! Meanwhile, like always, the Dems have nothing to offer but hand-wringing and excuses for why this happened..... Not to mention the corporate Dems in the Senate who helped confirm those three nominees, as well as Clarence Thomas..., who we can also thank Biden for.... Voting for corporate Dems, or even most Dems, is a waste of time, because it led to this and is not going to solve this either. Vote third party, everybody, and throw out both of the corporate parties. It will not only save us from theocracy, but it will eliminate the use of bullshit wedge issues like this and the rest of the culture wars, so we can finally move on to class warfare, for once on our behalf, against the rich and corporations, without having to resort to violent revolution...

Gilead, here we come! Right about now, I wish I were a lot richer, a little younger, and knew a compatible Canadian woman that I could marry for immigrating there, with an agreement to be able to easily divorce later if it became adventageous for either of us. Canada is looking really good right now, if things were more like that for me.
I am so excited about the SC overruling Roe VS Wade.

Actually, that saying about getting better looking everyday, was originally said by pro football legend and playboy Joe Namath, back around 1970. His actual saying was, " I can't wait til' tomorrow, because I get better looking every day".. No lack of confidence there, ever, with that guy...

Does society despise working class men? Or just ignore them?
TomMcGiverin comments on Jun 22, 2022:
This is nothing new. It has been known for a long time that the automation and shipping of jobs overseas, as well as the busting of unions and decline in union membership, have all disproportionately affected blue collar men more than women or even both genders in white collar jobs. So no wonder that blue collar men, who used to be solid Dem voters, are now mostly Repub voters, esp. since the Dem Party has not only sold them out and left them behind economically, but the party has also promoted identity politics as a substitute for class warfare on behalf of the working class, esp. working class men, and instead advocated for minority groups, women, and immigrants, all people that white blue collar men, somewhat rightfully, have seen as competitors for their jobs. No surprise that white blue collar men are so attracted to Trumpism and the Repub Party, since it plays to their legitimate grievances against the Dem Party on economic and trade policy while it also appeals to their sense of victimhood regarding the Dem Party and the system favoring every other group over them, such as women, minorities, and immigrants, at least as they see it.
A sad state of affairs.
TomMcGiverin comments on Jun 22, 2022:
I've been saying for a few years now that Biden has obvious dementia, but no mainstream Dems are willing to believe me, and it's not that I am a Trumper or a conservative. I supported Bernie, and that's actually who most Americans would have preferred over Biden or Trump. He is the one who turned out the huge crowds to his rallies, not Biden. But he's not who the corporate media, the DNC, the oligarchs, Wall Street, and corporate America wanted, so we were given the choice between the demented Biden and the crazy tyrant Trump. Like our votes and wishes actually matter anymore.
The real meaning of MAGA:

TomMcGiverin comments on Jun 21, 2022:
I don't think the hearings will make much difference in the next two elections, because even if people feel Trump and the Repubs were guilty of making the insurrection happen, people will remember and care more about how Biden and the Dems promised so much in 2020 and then failed to deliver on it. And those same people will not buy the argument that the big, bad meany Repubs were who prevented them from doing it. They are able to see that it was more due to Pelosi, Schumer, Biden, and also Manchin and Sinema, so they will blame the who party and the Dems will lose big the next two times. As they deserve to..
Yeah, I don't see Trump ever being brought to justice.
TomMcGiverin comments on Jun 21, 2022:
Of course. The big time pols, the rich, and the political elites all protect each other from any real punishment for their crimes. The only exceptions are when they make an example of a scapegoat once in a while to try to make the system look legit. Like John Edwards, for example...

TomMcGiverin comments on Jun 20, 2022:
I consider your story a wise and timely reminder for this widowed man to never marry again and to be very careful about committing to a serious relationship without carefully vetting the emotional health of the woman. Even with that, it reinforces my current position on not moving in with or living again with anyone as long as both of us are in good health, have our own adequate money to afford living apart. I cannot imagine living thru this kind of nightmare ending to a relationship, as it would probably emotionally break me and ruin my physical health. I already endured six years of hell with my late wife's dementia before her death. I don't need to live that again anytime soon, so being alone is still better for the time being... I'll keep looking for a partner, but your story makes me glad I'm not desperate enough to jump in too soon with anyone.... I'm guessing you're stronger than I am, so you will probably get thru this ok, but I am sorry you are having to experience this...
