I'm sure I could have passed the physical tests as far as performance based activity stuff, but may well have been rejected on stuff found in the medical exam, such as my atril fib heart condition, back in my early fifties, but I know I could never pass those performance tests after my late 50s. Are they talking about stuff you need to pass just to become a cop, or about stuff you have to keep passing on a regular basis even after you are on the job? I bet most cops in their fifties probably couldn't pass those tests in their later years on the job. I used to play full court basketball until my late forties, so I know I could have run a mile and half in under 12 min. or less back then.

Some are actually on the side of the their rank and file members, some have leaders that are more on the side of Repubs and management than the workers. Nowadays most of the unions that are still left, are public employees unions, since in private industry, most unions were broken long ago and everybody scabbed out. In general, I would much rather work in a job that had a union representing me, and gladly pay dues, than work in a non-union job.

I agree that the quiz is flawed because it makes no distinction between attendance or participation in something that is a secular as a Unitarian church and similar involvement in a mainstream Christian or Catholic church. Some non-believers are very involved in such Unitarian churches, but it doesn't make them at all religious. Few Unitarians are, they just want to be part of some community where they can openly be who they are and their kids can have some sort of education about humanism and world religions. Sounds like too much of an age difference to begin with. I lose out all the time in the online dating game, just have to roll with it. A woman gets interest from a whole bunch of men, then begins messaging with maybe ten of them, or more. I honestly don't know if I agree with that or not. I do know that there seems to be a trend in the dating scene, at least for the younger ages of singles, where women do seem to prefer the bad boys to that nice guys that have more respect for women. All I do know concerning the dating preferences of women my own age, is that almost all the profiles I see on Match contain something in the essay part to the effect of saying they want a man who values communication, respects her, values compromise, etc. Whether that is all a bunch of happy talk and posturing by women and not actually sincere or what they really want, I have no idea. I can't read minds and I do know from over three years experience on Match that a lot of women simply write the same cliches in their profile essays that have nothing to do with what they seem to really value in choosing a partner, such as looks, money, or social status, etc. So I guess the best you can do as far as getting an answer is hope the women on here reading this will respond and give you an honest answer. I like to think I respect women, and my female friends think I do, tho I know plenty of women on here think I don't, and have blocked me for it. But I think that is more about them not liking my blunt, confrontive nature when I see male-bashing or insincere posturing going on here on Agnostic. And we all know that if a Dem congressperson had done the same thing after a SC ruling that went against the MAGA crowd that was gathered there, the crowd would have at least attacked the Dem and put them in the hospital, if not killed them. That is the difference between political supporters on the left and those on the right... Which is why the bullshit about the "violent" protesters at BLM rallies is exactly that, has no comparison to how the foot soldiers of the right and Repub party act in public. Most Repubs and all of those on the right believe violence against their political opponents is not only right, it is justified and even necessary, in their eyes, to "save the country". I'm glad, but not surprised, that no one beat her in the crowd, but honestly, if someone had, I would have felt no sympathy for her, as she was recklessly trying to provoke it from them. It's like Protestants marching thru a Catholic neighborhood in Northern Ireland and celebrating a Protestant holiday there. You do have a legal right to do it, but it is probably not the smartest move, and you shouldn't be surprised if the residents greet you by throwing bricks or worse at you. When you shove your arrogance in the face of people's pride, don't be surprised when they react with furious anger... I also notice that she brought some security people with her. I never said it wouldn't eventually happen. What I did say, was that the Repubs, and their people on the SC, would never do it as long as they knew it would cost them most federal elections, the same as the civil rights laws of the 60s cost the Dem Party the South from then on in elections. But now that the Repubs have passed voter suppression laws in so many key states, they know they can still win elections there even if most people don't want to vote for them or their policies. So that's why they finally pulled the trigger on Roe, because they don't need to fairly win elections anymore in those states and can still win the WH and control DC, no matter how many women start voting against them in the backlash against this decision. As they might say in chess, they were waiting until they were in position to checkmate before making their big move....

No shit! The root cause of what happened today is the forty years of voting for corporate Dems, who then abandoned the working class in favor of their corporate masters. Which led to the working class voters, esp. white males, abandoning the Dem Party and voting instead for Repubs. This is nothing new. It has been known for a long time that the automation and shipping of jobs overseas, as well as the busting of unions and decline in union membership, have all disproportionately affected blue collar men more than women or even both genders in white collar jobs. So no wonder that blue collar men, who used to be solid Dem voters, are now mostly Repub voters, esp. since the Dem Party has not only sold them out and left them behind economically, but the party has also promoted identity politics as a substitute for class warfare on behalf of the working class, esp. working class men, and instead advocated for minority groups, women, and immigrants, all people that white blue collar men, somewhat rightfully, have seen as competitors for their jobs. No surprise that white blue collar men are so attracted to Trumpism and the Repub Party, since it plays to their legitimate grievances against the Dem Party on economic and trade policy while it also appeals to their sense of victimhood regarding the Dem Party and the system favoring every other group over them, such as women, minorities, and immigrants, at least as they see it.

I consider your story a wise and timely reminder for this widowed man to never marry again and to be very careful about committing to a serious relationship without carefully vetting the emotional health of the woman. Even with that, it reinforces my current position on not moving in with or living again with anyone as long as both of us are in good health, have our own adequate money to afford living apart.
