@JeffMurray You got it. As long as abortion is still officially legal across the country, many women will still vote for Repubs based on other issues, but if abortion becomes completely illegal across the US, they will put that issue above all others and the Repubs will not be able to win federal elections. Dems would win big majorities in congress as well as prez elections and would then make Roe a matter of law with a constitutional amendment.

@JeffMurray That is what I am saying. The Repubs and their allies on the SC know that abortion is a powerful enough issue that making abortion illegal again, as it was before Roe., would kill the Repub party across the nation, esp. in fed elections. They know going that far would be too much in the eyes of female voters, and it would cause most women to become single issue voters on this. The Repub party would suffer the same way the Dems have in the South ever since the passage of the civil rights bills in the 60s, which permanently swung the South to the Repubs.
Thanks for trying to hang on, Justice RBG.

If that comes to pass, then there's nothing left to do but get in the streets and revolt, whether violently or not, because if it's just allowed to stand, then fascism will be out in the open and tolerated. After that, further elections will be pointless once that precedent is set.

I resent you continuing to say things to the effect that I am dense or unintelligent because I don't agree with you. I am quite intelligent and I get your point. I think that you are either lying, in denial, or a very rare bird in your viewpoint on looks. It's really that simple. Almost no one on a paid dating site uses a profile that does not contain at least one photo of themselves. TomMcGiverin replies on Sep 17, 2020:
@itsmedammit I didn't miss your point at all. I just think that when it comes to something like online dating, which is much like job-seeking, almost all people proceed in a logical, methodical manner which includes screening, sorting, interviewing thru messaging followed by phone calls or in-person meetings, etc. Whether you personally agree with me or not, whether you personally follow this type of approach or not, I have no doubt about whether most people do. And looks are a big part of it. But I know enough about human nature and pride to know that many people will not admit to being as concerned with looks as they are. Same phenomena as how wrong polls were about the last prez election. Trump's support was way underestimated to due 'Trump shame" where many people who supported him wouldn't admit it, even to strangers polling them, because it would make them look bad in their own eyes. Admitting supposed shallowness or superficiality about looks is no different. It can be very hard to get most people to admit their embarrassing faults. That's why researchers use ways to get around this. Like when they ask ?s about parenting styles as a way to find out who is more supportive of authoritarian leaders, since there is stigma about authoritarian leaders being like Hitler. So the parenting ?s get a more accurate picture of who supports Trump, for example.

TomMcGiverin replies on Sep 17, 2020:
Most of the time people are rejected on dating sites, it is mostly about looks, if for no other reason than simplicity and convenience. How can anyone honestly say that most people using dating sites don't initially screen who they will message with sincere interest in them, where it's not based on at least looks and maybe a couple other criteria like religion or political affiliation? It's clear that most people begin screening out or whittling down their field of candidates with criteria like those and then work their way forward with reading their whole profile info and then choosing who to message based on other things like common interests, kids, relationship history, etc. I would imagine this is even more true for women than men because they generally get way more interest from others on dating sites, even if it's from scammers, than do most men. That's because most men on dating sites use a scattershot method of approaching many more women than the other gender and hoping to get responses from at least some of them. In my experience, as an average-looking man, I seldom got messages from women who were not scammers, who would make the first approach. And when they did, they were always below-average looking. I suspect if you are above average looking, male or female, you will get tons of interest on a dating site, and not just from scammers. Those are the facts of life.

I think almost all of us want photos, and current photos, before we decide if someone is worth engaging with or meeting. Just talk to anyone who's been set up many times by well-meaning friends, esp. of the opposite gender, who are not in touch with how looks matter to their friend or how the prospective suitor stacks up in the looks dept. against the other party they are trying to set up. Knowing about the looks of someone in advance of meeting them saves a lot of regret and embarrassment. BTW, I agree with you that the vast majority of those we meet, whether organically or thru dating sites, do not end up with mutual attraction, maybe not 90%, but probably close to that because attraction is both looks and overall compatibility as well as personality.

@Marcie1974 Thank you for your honest response. I am not at all surprised that this meeting happened organically thru a mutual friend rather than a dating site, because, in my experience, this guy probably wouldn't have been interested in you if he had encountered you on a dating site. Actually, I think most people of either gender will meet people organically they would not consider or be interested if the introduction had been an online dating site. Why? Because, it appears, you are being realistic and open-minded about attraction and giving someone a chance if the instant chemistry isn't there and he is not. In fact, based on your description of him, I would probably rate him as a 5 and he is trying to date only women that are a 7 or better. My guess is he gets even more rejection than you, but probably doesn't admit it. Sounds like he's in about the same looks category as me, but I'm maybe a bit more realistic and honest. I actually had a dating coach look over my online dating history to get her opinion on if I was trying to date out of my league regarding looks and she said I "appeared to be doing that some of the time, but not most of the time" on Match, and "not enough to make me concerned about it being a problem for you". Altho, I fired her a couple weeks after that and don't feel she was really that helpful at all for me.

I was around for the 60s and 70s, when this happened all the time. The Church hearings in congress brought all this out, including the COINTELLPRO operations the feds were pulling back in those decades to discredit civil rights groups, the anti-war movement, and the Black Panthers. @Admin Unfortunately, we will not get the kind of reform we had during the Depression of the 1930s for three reasons. Both major parties are now totally beholden to the rich and corporations, so neither one would be willing to reasonably make concessions like they did to FDR and the unions back then. Also, BTW, union membership these days is pitiful compared to back then. Secondly, Americans for the most part, at least the ones on the left and those in the middle of the spectrum on economics, are not willing to get out in the streets and fight for revolution, whether it be non-violent protest or violent revolution. At the same time, our current developments show us, however, that those on the right, like the armed Trump supporters and the right wing militias, are more than willing to get in the streets and fight a civil war against the left. Thirdly, it has long been obvious from the militarization of the police in America over the last couple decades, the crushing of OWS, and the recent behavior of the police taking sides against the BLM protesters and on the side of right wing militias and Trump supporters, that if the left or even those in the political middle attempt violent revolution against the status quo, the police and military are chomping at the bit to mow them down and that is exactly what they would successfully do. We are doomed in America if we attempt any violent revolution and probably just as doomed if we get a viable third party like the People's party to challenge the duopoly in DC. They would probably just declare martial law and set up a dictatorship if that became a serious threat. But I really hope I'm wrong....

The US is the most "advanced" market country. The high suicide rate is a logical, expected outcome of such a system. It will get worse. Wait until technology turns the working class into the useless class.
TomMcGiverin replies on Aug 30, 2020:
No need to wait. Much of the working class has already been made redundant through not just tech, but jobs being sent overseas. Eventually we will see a turnover, out of desperation, where many of the service industry jobs like waitressing, hotel maids, cleaning jobs, etc. will be taken by over-qualified, over-educated people simply because there aren't enough white collar jobs left for them. The rich will end up with a better class of servants, which was always their intent. Will save them the inconvenience of having to hire foreigners who don't speak English as a first language to clean their homes, raise their kids, and tend their gardens, yet they will still be able to pay slave wages.

Big fucking deal, it's a phony issue that both parties use to con their respective bases. If the Repubs actually wanted to overturn Roe, they could have done it a long time ago as they've had the votes on the SC for decades.
