My guess is that with the virus spreading so rapidly and so little testing being done, the only people that will continue to use dating sites will be those who are the most adventurous and open to risking their health. In other words, mostly people who are just seeking hookups. I'm not making any judgement about that, just being realistic about the health risks of meeting strangers, even without immediate sex.

TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 15, 2020:
Have to disagree. I don't think it will involve those kind of contracts. I do think that it will result in people, esp. women, becoming even more cautious about how soon they will be willing to meet someone new in person. Right now it appears that the dating sites are tanking, as nobody wants to pay good money for a dating site when no one is willing to meet a stranger in person during this virus crisis and even if they did agree to that, there are no indoor places open that they could meet to share coffee, a drink, or a meal. Because of these conditions, dating sites appear to be desperate to attract new members or keep their existing members, so they are offering huge discounts for the time being.

TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 13, 2020:
I agree Robo, but I think you give too much credit to that first group you refer to, the ones who will supposedly vote Dem no matter who the nominee is. Most of them won't admit it, but I think the majority of them were never going to support or vote for Bernie if he had gotten the nomination last time around or this time. However, since Bernie failed to get the nomination either time, they were never put to the test about whether they would have fallen in line and supported or voted for him. I think most of them are secretly relieved that they weren't put in that position, like we have been each of these times. I also think that this time they were getting very nervous a month or two ago when it looked like Bernie was going to run away with the nomination. But the DNC and the virus took care of that for them. I think most of the anti-Bernie Dems are hypocrites and they will never convince me that most of them were willing to back up all their blue-no-matter-who talk if the shoe were on the other foot and they were being asked to support Bernie as the nominee...

Team Trump makes 'political calculation,' puts burdens on governors

He is setting it up so that if things go badly at the state level, in each state, the governor there will get the blame from the residents of that state, instead of Trump, in Nov.. On the other hand, if things go well in particular states as far as the virus, Trump will be glad to claim most of the credit. I am betting that most of the governors, red or blue, have figured this out and will lead in their own states according to what will help get them, not Trump, re-elected, since the voters in their state will blame them, not Trump, if things go badly in their state.

TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 11, 2020:

This uproar is sort of similar to what happened after Thatcher died a few years ago. Many of us on the left were gloating and celebrating her death, while those on the right were outraged at that reaction. Personally, as the widower of a spouse who, like Thatcher, suffered and died of dementia, felt glad to see her dead, but not glad about her dementia, which I would not wish on my worst enemy. These sorts of issues are complicated and everyone deserves to have their opinion and feelings about their political opponents. Still, these opinions will always upset those on the opposing side and you better be ready to pay a price if you make them public.
It’s about the long term...
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 10, 2020:
The sad truth is that the Dem party doesn't really care about winning prez elections near as much as they care about stopping progressive candidates from ever becoming prez. The only thing that would ever really move the Dem Party to the left would be a progressive or socialist running third party or as an independent and getting 20% or more of the vote. That sort of thing was happening about a hundred years ago, when socialist candidates were getting tens of millions of votes in each prez election. That, and the Great Depression, is why FDR and the Dem Party moved way to the left in 1932, because they were afraid a socialist might become prez in that election or the next if FDR didn't pass socialist programs. The Dem centrists either don't know the real history or choose to ignore it.

You could sue (you can always sue for any reason), but as my brother used to say when he was a private practice lawyer, it doesn't mean you have a case. States Introduce Bills to Ban Marriage Equality to Get It Back in Front of SCOTUS
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 9, 2020:
I doubt they will agree to hear it either. They know how unpopular it would be to outlaw gay marriage again and don't want to hurt the Repub party in the next election. That's also why I doubt that the SC will ever actually outlaw abortion again. It's been legal for too long and even tho they have had the votes on the court for decades to do it, they haven't. Again, it's because it would kill the party at the polls with all the women who would vote Dem as single issue voters. So they do the next best thing to outlawing abortion by putting up so many restrictions at the state level that abortion becomes unavailable in most parts of the country, at least for poor women. The rest of women are still able, like they always have, to get abortions when they need them.

How the hell do you expect him to enthusiastically endorse Biden when he knows damn well that Biden not only has dementia and is going to get crushed by Trump, but that Biden also has no intention of pursuing any of Bernie's policies if he did win? You and the other centrist Dems can suck on it and enjoy your loss in Nov.. Bernie and his supporters, as always, will get blamed for the Dem party's loss in Nov. no matter what-instead of the DNC who is really at fault- so you can spare me your scorn for refusing to play the DNC's game this time. I will either vote Green or write in Bernie's name. I will not reward the DNC for again rigging the race and screwing Bernie. BTW, I live in a red state where the state govt. is totally run by Repubs, so my vote won't matter anyway in deciding the prez election. Don't worry too much about Biden folks, the DNC will replace him at the convention with one of their corporate centrists anyway, after he drops out from his dementia and claims some other reason. After stopping Bernie, the DNC has already accomplished their real mission and they really don't care if they lose to Trump again. Their gravy train and corruption will still go on strong in DC and that's all they really care about. Time for you to wise up and realize that is all they really care about.

The true fascists are not the Dems with their obsession with identity politics and PC. It's the ruling class and the corporate media who are controlling both parties and making sure there is no class war on behalf of the working class and the 99%. We saw with the Occupy movement how quick they were to crush any real movement against Wall Street, corporate America, and the rich. We also see true facism in how the leaders of both parties and the corporate media persecuted Julian Assange, Ed Snowden and Bradley Manning for revealing the truth about our government's corruption, oppression, and surveillance of its citizens. Getting outraged about PC and identity politics is trivial compared to that kind of facism.

Sounds like it's getting medieval down there. Reminds me of Monty Python And The Holy Grail. Can anyone say, "Bring out your dead.."?

If it weren't for the fact that these idiots will end up going from their gatherings and then spreading the virus to the rest of us when they visit stores or medical facilities, my response would be along the line of what some officers said in the Vietnam War, which was " Kill em' all and let God sort out the mistakes". Or in this case, let them all die from the disease, maybe by trapping them all in the church?
Covid 19 will shift the wealth disparity, yet again.

Hard to say in answering either of your ?s. Trump is clearly dragging his feet on coping with the crisis, but it's hard to say whether he is doing that to screw the lower classes or more because he wants to prop up the stock market and help his election chances. Could be a combination of all of those. How much the lower classes will lose of their wealth all depends on how many months the economy is shut down with businesses being closed. Right now it's hard to know how long that will be.

Between now and then Biden will hide out as much as possible and at the convention I wouldn't be surprised if Joe drops out and the DNC appoints Cuomo to be the nominee instead, since the corporate media are now really building Cuomo up these days and there is a movement within the party to draft him. If that happens, I will vote third party as it will finally be clear to all who are honest that Bernie was cheated this time again. Cuomo has been a good leader for his state during this crisis, but it is also clear that he is as much or more of friend of the billionaires as Joe or any other corporate Dem. He has also refused several billion dollars from the feds for his state during this crisis because he insists on cutting his state's Medicare budget during this crisis. WTF is that about?
Joe Biden is too confused to be POTUS. He makes Trump look coherent. [youtu.be]

There may be plenty of time and delegates left to be awarded, but the Biden voters are so anti-Bernie that they will not be moved to vote for Bernie no matter how bad Biden starts to look.

You got it. What America really worships is money, not some god.

Well said, nothing I can add. Biden supporters who refuse to acknowledge Joe's faults and want us to shut up and fall in line can shove it, as well as take the full responsibility for his loss in Nov., instead of again, like four years ago, blaming it on Bernie's backers. Which they will anyway...
Young people seem to be having a tough time coming to grips with the COVID 19 crisis.

Your story shows why, five years ago when I needed to find a place to live, I chose to live around people who were more the age of my parents than in a neighborhood where I might be living around people the age of my children, assuming I had chosen to have kids (which I didn't). I had already been there, done that when I lived in a college town decades ago with my late wife. I got tired of living around spoiled, selfish children with their noise, late night parties, overuse of parking, and littering the neighborhood with trash. Old people are way less of a nuisance... As to your story, I was disappointed that it didn't end with you pulling a Clint Eastwood and telling them to get off your lawn, lol..Which proves that, unlike me, you aren't a complete geezer yet..

It is beyond pathetic. He clearly has at least 50 IQ points on all of them. The most amusing part is how clueless they all are about their idiocy. I don't think his sample is that skewed, but I do know there are Trump supporters that are smarter and more informed, but they are not going to agree to talk with him on camera. They are generally financially well off people who support Trump because they don't like paying taxes and are selfish.
