TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 22, 2020:
Now is as good a time as any to give up on the Dems. At least at the national level, they are a fake opposition party to the Repubs.
Is Trump trying to deliberately create a second wave of Covid-19 to derail the elections?
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 22, 2020:
I don't think so, but I wouldn't put it past him. I think the reason he is trying to reopen the economy too soon is simply out of ideology and the wish to help his buddies in the business world who want to make profits and keep the stock market up. The lives and health of Americans are not important to him at all.

While I feel Cuomo has been a better leader during this crisis once it hit his state hard, he is still far from perfect and not the white knight the corporate media are building him up to be, possibly so he could be the replacement candidate for the Dems if Biden drops out this summer due to his dementia. Cuomo waited too long to close down businesses in his state, unlike California and Washington did once the virus hit their states. Also, the more I watch him in his daily press conferences, the more I find him annoying in how he loves the sound of his own voice and has a style of talking down to his audience. Having said all that, of course he is far superior to Trump and most or all of the Repub governors in the US as far as how they are handling the crisis in their states.
well this sucks!!!! how are you?
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 21, 2020:
Waiting to see if Reynolds opens up any of the closed types of businesses in May. Considering the number of confirmed cases hasn't peaked yet, I'm thinking it will be middle or late May before much of the state is allowed to open most types of businesses. As far as bars and restaurants, I wouldn't plan on anything until late summer if even then, except for maybe western Iowa.

TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 20, 2020:
The current mortality rates for the US overall appear to be about 3.5%. That is dividing the deaths by the number of confirmed cases. That's a lot more than 1%, but it is a lot lower than other causes of death.

Trump’s strategy to reopen states is about taking credit and dodging blame
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 18, 2020:
Maybe his strategy is to trick people who are poor and stupid to rush out and spend that $1200 at stores so they get infected and die? I just saw a FB post by Occupy Democrats that alleged exactly that. What do you all think? Is this a sort of population control?

ABC, CNN, New York Times all admit Trump briefings aren't news — so now what?
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 18, 2020:
I would be fine if they just cut away whenever Trump is talking his shit and let us listen to Fauci and the actual experts on science and medicine, but if the networks did that it would just add ammo to Trump's act of cataloging all his grievances, real and imagined, that he claims the "fake news" are promoting against him. And his followers would, of course, swallow all of it whole.

My guess is that with the virus spreading so rapidly and so little testing being done, the only people that will continue to use dating sites will be those who are the most adventurous and open to risking their health. TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 15, 2020:
Have to disagree. I don't think it will involve those kind of contracts. I do think that it will result in people, esp. women, becoming even more cautious about how soon they will be willing to meet someone new in person. Right now it appears that the dating sites are tanking, as nobody wants to pay good money for a dating site when no one is willing to meet a stranger in person during this virus crisis and even if they did agree to that, there are no indoor places open that they could meet to share coffee, a drink, or a meal. Because of these conditions, dating sites appear to be desperate to attract new members or keep their existing members, so they are offering huge discounts for the time being.

I consider the virus relief check to be blood money from the government, at least in my case. I believe neither party really cares how many people die or go broke or homeless from this crisis. TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 13, 2020:
I agree Robo, but I think you give too much credit to that first group you refer to, the ones who will supposedly vote Dem no matter who the nominee is. Most of them won't admit it, but I think the majority of them were never going to support or vote for Bernie if he had gotten the nomination last time around or this time. However, since Bernie failed to get the nomination either time, they were never put to the test about whether they would have fallen in line and supported or voted for him. I think most of them are secretly relieved that they weren't put in that position, like we have been each of these times. I also think that this time they were getting very nervous a month or two ago when it looked like Bernie was going to run away with the nomination. But the DNC and the virus took care of that for them. I think most of the anti-Bernie Dems are hypocrites and they will never convince me that most of them were willing to back up all their blue-no-matter-who talk if the shoe were on the other foot and they were being asked to support Bernie as the nominee...

Team Trump makes 'political calculation,' puts burdens on governors

He is setting it up so that if things go badly at the state level, in each state, the governor there will get the blame from the residents of that state, instead of Trump, in Nov.. On the other hand, if things go well in particular states as far as the virus, Trump will be glad to claim most of the credit. I am betting that most of the governors, red or blue, have figured this out and will lead in their own states according to what will help get them, not Trump, re-elected, since the voters in their state will blame them, not Trump, if things go badly in their state.

This uproar is sort of similar to what happened after Thatcher died a few years ago. Personally, as the widower of a spouse who, like Thatcher, suffered and died of dementia, felt glad to see her dead, but not glad about her dementia, which I would not wish on my worst enemy. These sorts of issues are complicated and everyone deserves to have their opinion and feelings about their political opponents. Still, these opinions will always upset those on the opposing side and you better be ready to pay a price if you make them public.
It’s about the long term...
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 10, 2020:
The sad truth is that the Dem party doesn't really care about winning prez elections near as much as they care about stopping progressive candidates from ever becoming prez. The only thing that would ever really move the Dem Party to the left would be a progressive or socialist running third party or as an independent and getting 20% or more of the vote. That sort of thing was happening about a hundred years ago, when socialist candidates were getting tens of millions of votes in each prez election. That, and the Great Depression, is why FDR and the Dem Party moved way to the left in 1932, because they were afraid a socialist might become prez in that election or the next if FDR didn't pass socialist programs. The Dem centrists either don't know the real history or choose to ignore it.

States Introduce Bills to Ban Marriage Equality to Get It Back in Front of SCOTUS
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 9, 2020:
I doubt they will agree to hear it either. They know how unpopular it would be to outlaw gay marriage again and don't want to hurt the Repub party in the next election. That's also why I doubt that the SC will ever actually outlaw abortion again. It's been legal for too long and even tho they have had the votes on the court for decades to do it, they haven't. Again, it's because it would kill the party at the polls with all the women who would vote Dem as single issue voters. So they do the next best thing to outlawing abortion by putting up so many restrictions at the state level that abortion becomes unavailable in most parts of the country, at least for poor women. The rest of women are still able, like they always have, to get abortions when they need them.

I will either vote Green or write in Bernie's name. I will not reward the DNC for again rigging the race and screwing Bernie. BTW, I live in a red state where the state govt. is totally run by Repubs, so my vote won't matter anyway in deciding the prez election. Don't worry too much about Biden folks, the DNC will replace him at the convention with one of their corporate centrists anyway, after he drops out from his dementia and claims some other reason. After stopping Bernie, the DNC has already accomplished their real mission and they really don't care if they lose to Trump again. Their gravy train and corruption will still go on strong in DC and that's all they really care about. Time for you to wise up and realize that is all they really care about.

Biden has dementia, not a mental disorder so much. His memory and thinking are impaired, tho the US media will never report it. Biden is being propped up and treated as the nominee to stop Bernie, but Biden will likely be replaced as the nominee this summer by the DNC when they appoint someone else to replace him when Biden drops out and Bernie has been eliminated as a candidate.

And yet Bond has miraculously survived every trap and evil plot imaginable and remained 35 years old...
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 7, 2020:
The character may remain 35 years old, but the actors playing him have about all continued on with the role well after they were past 35. I think most straight men wish they were Bond.
Bonus! 😆 😸

[youtu.be] The fight against facisism. Then & now.
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 7, 2020:
The true fascists are not the Dems with their obsession with identity politics and PC. It's the ruling class and the corporate media who are controlling both parties and making sure there is no class war on behalf of the working class and the 99%. We saw with the Occupy movement how quick they were to crush any real movement against Wall Street, corporate America, and the rich. We also see true facism in how the leaders of both parties and the corporate media persecuted Julian Assange, Ed Snowden and Bradley Manning for revealing the truth about our government's corruption, oppression, and surveillance of its citizens. Getting outraged about PC and identity politics is trivial compared to that kind of facism.
