Btw, here in Australia it IS compulsory to vote in Elections once you have attained the age of 18 years or gained Citizenship as an Immigrant.

Triphid replies on May 27, 2019:
@azzow2 Sounds similar to the Evaporative Air Coolers we use out here in Outback Australia, ours usually have 3 filter pads, sometimes 4, filled out with a type of wood-wool material, the Cooler has a separate water pump that forces water through the filter pads and a motor that drives a drum-shaped Blower Fan in a housing shaped like a snail shell. My Cooler is rated at an output of 5,000cfm on High speed, 3,000cfm on Low speed and instead of being fitted to the roof, it is fitted at height where I can work on it , if needed, without climbing up a ladder, it is also in a shaded area and in summer temps of between 35 and 45 degrees Celsius it cools the whole house down to a very comfortable 22 - 25 degrees Celsius whereas my neighbor has hers on the roof and has found that in the summer heats hers is definitely struggling because of the reflected heat plus the air temps if has to contend with.

Triphid replies on May 25, 2019:
@WilliamFleming Yes, despite the USUAL protestations of the LDS 'Officials' the LDS Church literally runs the state of Utah with a fist of, not Iron, but solid titanium just as it does with its members. For example, A) ANY member found to spending money in ANY business other than one owned by a Church Member on a Sunday can expect to called to account in front of the entire Congregation and will most likely be ostracized for a period of NOT less than 1 calendar month ( all family members included here btw), B) NO family with children may hold a picnic or attend a sporting event, etc, on ANY Sunday for ANY reason what-so-ever, punishment same as for A), C) ALL Church Members MUST Fast from Sunrise to Sunset each and every Sunday, the only exceptions/ exemptions are for the pregnant women, babies and toddlers under 5 years of age and those whom have direct Medical Prescriptions from recognized Doctors/Specialists, D) ALL tithe envelopes handed out the previous Sunday MUST be returned and filled the following Sunday, failure to do so WILL result in an Enquiry conducted by the Church Council of Elders at THEIR convenience, NOT yours, E) ANY Church Member rostered by an Employer to work on a Sunday MUST ask permission of the Elders and SHOW a copy of the said roster BEFORE working on that Sunday PLUS contribute 10% of the wage/salary earned on that Sunday to the Church as well as the .normal tithes expected each week, failure to do so = ostracism for a period not less than 1 month for the ENTIRE family, F) considering that here in Australia our electoral system, etc, is different to the U.S.A., LDS church Members ARE PRESCRIBED by the Council of Elders PRECISELY Who or What Political Party they CAN vote for and no-one may deviate from that prescription, G) Couples, either of the same sex or one of each sex, sharing a house/flat, etc, are NOT permitted to sit near each other in Church Services, H) Everyone attending services MUST be seated according their 'ranking' in the Church, NO deviations permitted, I) EVERY Member, without exception, MUST invite the Missionary Elders to their home/flat at least once per month for a meal, bible discussion and prayers, NO exceptions allowed, J) discussion/debate relating to political matters/Government matters CAN ONLY be held among the Council of Elders and the Missionary Elders, NOT amongst the General Membership. There are literally HUNDREDS more of these LDS 'articles' that I could add here, but I think you'll get the gist from what I've already posted in this reply/comment.

@Wurlitzer Medically and Scientifically speaking here, we ONLY use 10% of our actual brain capacity and storage capabilities on the conscious level. The human brain operates on numerous levels, one of them being the Autonomic Level or Autonomic Nervous System, such breathing, your heart operating, etc, etc, then there are the Conscious brain activities such as being awake and aware, reading, decision making, loading up information, etc, etc, then comes the Subconscious Level that activates mainly when we are sleeping, it sorts through, categorizes, correlates, etc, the information/data from the Conscious brain level and usually stores it for later reference, etc. Then are such levels/areas as the Limbic System, etc, etc, the Sensory Regions/Levels and numerous others as well. most of these 'systems' operate automatically and often quite independently of each other without us ever knowing that they are doing so.

Talk about their 'holier than thou' attitude, the halos, in my opinion, hadn't just 'slipped' they'd been willfully discarded.

@powder I'm kind of thinking far more radically than merely ' fixing' an completely f***ed up system ( my personal opinion here btw). I'm thinking that we desperately NEED to tear down the whole system and build a whole new, entire and more equitable one for ourselves thus scrapping the tired and well antiquated ' Westminster System' we've been saddled with since the birth of our country and home. Neither, imho, do we need nor want to 'adopt' the American Version either, WE need something truly and 100% Australian based solely for Australia and Australians. @powder In 1000% agreement with that idea. Plus, I have a few others that I feel should be brought into Law for Politicians as well; 1) ALL serving/newly elected Members of Parliament, Prime Minister, etc, included, MUST start on a basic Salary equal to that of a Licensed Tradesman and such salary can ONLY be increased by no more than 0.02% of the average wage of a NON-qualified Labourer but ONLY if the salary recipient (Politician) can show, after an independent scrutiny, that they have increased the productivity, permanent employment, etc of their Constituency by a minimum of 1.25% in that year, i.e, a Productivity Contract, 2) ALL Sitting Politicians MUST submit REGULAR Accounts, etc, of any and ALL incomes derived from outside interests, Bank Accounts, Inheritances,,etc, received by themselves and family members for Independent Auditing and Scrutiny both Before and during their tenures, 3) ALL Politicians MUST cover their OWN costs of travel, etc, and present such receipts as necessary to be Independently Audited BEFORE being recompensed by the Public Purse and such Travel Costs, etc, MUST not be claimed if NOT accrued by the lowest costing available Public Transport Services available, i.e. No more Helicopter hirings, etc, as per the Bishop debacle, and such travel costs, etc, shall ONLY apply to Genuine and Gazetted Political and Constituency Businesses ONLY, 4) NO retiring or unseated Politician can claim their Parliamentary Pension UNTIL they have reached the age where everyone may claim a Pension, i.e. what ever age is Legally Allowed by Parliament, No exceptions shall apply what-so-ever, 5) ALL Politician Incomes/Salaries MUST and SHALL BE taxed at the same rate as for any Income Earner, NO Exemptions applicable here either, 6) Breaches of the above clauses SHALL result in the Politician concerned being Ejected from his/her position IMMEDIATELY and their seat being declared vacant plus they WILL be unable to stand for ANY and ALL Elections from that time forward. @FrayedBear Tony, the Rabid Rabbit, Abbott will receive $6,000 per week as his 'parliamentary pension' PLUS he can work, get a huge salary, etc, and it WILL NOT affect his parliamentary pension one iota. IF, an ordinary pensioner receives an income above a set level though, it IMMEDIATELY affects their pension, entitlements, etc, etc, and they have absolutely NO recourse what-so-ever. I strongly advocate that retired/booted out Politicians SHOULD ONLY receive EXACTLY the same pensions, etc, as does any ordinary person AND the amount of pension payable should be in accordance with the rules applied to everyone else. @Antifred As a Doctor of Theology who is also an Atheist and has degrees in both Ancient and Modern Histories plus a Degree in Ancient Languages, including Latin, Ancient Greek, Cuneiform and Aramaic, etc, I STATE clearly and succinctly that so-called Biblical History is very little more than a compendium of STOLEN Tales/Legends/Myths, twisted, contorted and bastardised by the Scribes under King Hezekiah ( A NON-Hebrew King who conquered the 13 Hebrew Tribes approx. 240 years prior to the Reign of the Mythical David) in an effort to combine and utilize the belligerencies and hostile natures of those 13 tribes to AUGMENT his own Armies. As for the biblical 'blood-lines' well, considering that a) all blood-lines are Paternal Only, b) there were NO recorded/records kept of actual births during those eras and up until not so very long ago in historical times that is, therefore ANYONE with a mere ounce of Nous could easily FABRICATE a Paternal Blood-line and have it say whatever they wished, ergo Biblical 'blood-lines' are completely meaningless to everyone EXCEPT those who refuse to see that fact, such as you in my opinion. And also, I see, in my honest opinion, that YOU are nowhere remotely either an Atheist or an Agnostic BUT a ' roach' (Troll) of the Christian ilk bent upon spreading your beliefs throughout this site.

@FrayedBear To my mind it's become far more than saddening, Our forefathers, some of them anyway, fought and died at the Eureka Stockade, some battled for better pay and conditions with the Shearers Strike and many fought here in Broken Hill in the Great Miners' in the first decade of the 20th. Century just so that they could leave better conditions, etc, for future generations and by our own Apathy, etc, etc, we've allowed their legacies to squandered away. If those forefathers were here today they'd be collectively kicking our arses until they were up around our ear-holes I'd reckon. Shame upon your heads People of Australia, Shame, Shame, Shame.

@Antifred "Biblical Archaeology" you have to joking, mixing those two words together is the same as Biblical History, i.e. neither of them truly exist except ONLY in the minds of those seeking to find imaginary evidence to support their belief in their totally Imaginary God. There were NEVER any 'Neo-Hittites' in Ancient history, only those who built the Hittite Fortress city of Hattusha in the remote mountain region of Anatolia ( now known as Turkey) so your biblical 'history(????)' is once more, a always, proven 100% INCORRECT.

Btw, she died alone in April 2000 whilst I was by my teenaged Daughter's side 24/7 in Adelaide, South Australia while my Daughter was undergoing Chemotherapy for Mature B Cell Lymphoma. We had Medical Permission to return to Broken Hill, some 300+ miles away for exactly 1 week to organize the burial ( cremation actually) of my 'mother(???)' before returning for the next session of chemotherapy and not one iota of a tear was shed by myself nor my daughter since my daughter had suffered from her Abusiveness as well.

@Antifred The ACTUAL Hittites, a peoples who SETTLED in the mountainous regions of Anatolia ( Turkey) after MIGRATING from somewhere in Eastern Europe, built the impregnable walled, fortress city whose ruins were found some 50 years ago in those very same mountains. A very war-like and hostile peoples living and warring at the time of the reign of King Ramses I, aka Ramses the Great, Pharaoh of Egypt, the Hittites attacked Babylon first and virtually destroyed the city and its people in a frenzy of slaughter, rape and pillaging, then turned their war-machine towards Egypt, fought against Ramses at Kadesh and won, even though Ramses claimed, falsely, it was an Egyptian victory, which resulted in Ramses and the Hittite King signing the first EVER recorded ( and actual evidence of it still exists to this day btw) Non-Aggression Peace Treaty in History and proclaiming the Hittite King as being a Great King, a title reserved ONLY for Ramses and 2 other reigning Kings of that time. AFTER a dispute between the Hittite King and his nephew saw the Hittite King EXILED ( an unforgivable BREACH of the Hittite code of Brotherhood, Unity and Selfless Loyalty to the King unto Death) a civil war broke out, the civilization fell into ruin and the peoples disappeared, back to whence they had come from, taking everything, valuables, etc, EXCEPT clay tablet records, with them. Ergo, the myth of the Hittites mentioned in the Goat-Herders Guide to the Galaxy (a.k.a the bible) WERE NEVER the True Hittites of ancient History or times since the REAL Hittite Empire was situated a very long way away from Palestine and the Hebrews ( Jews) of the time. For further factual evidence see, DVD Documentary, "Lost Cities of the Ancients, The Dark Lords of Hattusha," released by the B.B.C. under the Authority of the National Geographic Society..

Being a male I can imagine quite vividly the absolutely unbearable agony using a blunt knife on those somewhat sensitive bits would cause, let alone the panic that would set in as the heat, flames and smoke began to fill the shed. A very apt 'punishment' to my way of thinking.

If memory serves, the Budda was a Prince raised in isolation from the world. He didn't learn of aging, illness, or death until adulthood. He went on a "walkabout" when he discovered such things existed, and had an epiphany... "Lead a life of moderation". Very simplistic memory from an ...

'Buddism was never intended to be a form of religion, it was merely a Philosophy BUT as usual throw in human traits and their desires for control, avarice, etc, etc, and soon a mere Philosophy becomes yet another Theology, or Theosophy as I like to call religions, emerges. The real 'Philosophy' of the teachings of the Buddha were that Life with all its trials, tribulations, hardships, etc, is important and should embraced and enjoyed not matter how difficult it can get or be.
Anyone know much about the counsel of Nicaea?
Imatheistically comments on May 14, 2019:
All I know about it is it's when a group of Catholic monks, VOTED the books of the "buy-bull" into their "holy" existence. Pretty much sums up the idiocy of the bible's compilation right then & there in 325 A.D.
Triphid replies on May 14, 2019:
@abyers1970 Flavius Josephus, a Hebrew turn-coat enslaved by the Flavian Family, later given his freedom and adopted the name of Flavius Josephus and wrote a history of the 3 Flavians deeming them as being the Father, the Son and the Great and Holy Spirit in an effort to have them deified as per Roman Tradition, which they eventually were btw. Hence the Holy Trinity later came into being and was 'adapted' to suit the needs of Messianic Cult (Christian Cult) and the later to emerge Cult of Catholicism.
Acting my age? Pfffffft!
Alvinsmama comments on May 14, 2019:
You always see articles about how to dress your age, how to act your age......I've never been this age before. So, I follow my head and my heart as to how to behave, what to wear, what to eat. Leave me alone about my age and I'll do the same.
Triphid replies on May 14, 2019:
All these fashion hints on "How to," and I totally ignore, dress to suit myself in whatever is most comfortable for me. Bloody Nora, IF we ALL followed these so-called advice tips, etc, we'd be committed to a Mental Institution before you had time to sneeze.

I think the trinity is explained as the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are aspect of the one God. The roles of the 3 individuals are preserves (supposedly) without violating the monotheistic claim of the religion. I don't believe it makes sense but this is why I'm here and not at church today. I ...

Great. Was she perhaps away nesting?
Triphid replies on May 13, 2019:
@Petter As a resident of this, our ONLY home, I am firmly of the idea that WE should ALL be taking care of this planet and its fragile environment and ecosystems. I make it my personal rule, which I've been doing for over 30 years now, of replacing at least 3 seedling trees for EVERY dead tree/fallen native tree that I harvest for firewood on a friend's 93,000 acre Sheep and Cattle Grazing Property. I started doing it back in 1987 with my daughter when she was just a toddler, stopped for a few years after I lost her to cancer and resumed again in 2006, the rough tally of seedlings stands at approx. between 7,000 and 13,000 so far and there will be at least another 20+ seedlings planted this season as well. My friend loves the new look of his paddocks with their wind-breaks of trees and has found that his wool production has risen by around 10% over the last 30 odd years because of it.

Hahaha, got a Degree in Georgia but can't spell a simple like beads correctly. I laugh when I read/hear a Christian say that they are 'God Fearing,' because IF their God is so Loving and Caring, etc, etc, then WHAT and WHY would anyone need to fear him/her in the first place?
Triphid replies on May 13, 2019:
@A2Jennifer Well he/she 'claimed' to have earned a Degree in Georgia but cannot spell the word 'bead' correctly, however when I went through Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Education it didn't matter one iota which State you came from, what your familial background was just so long as you at least read, write and spell in English. As for the U.S. state where he/she 'claimed' to have earned said 'degree' I don't it matters if it were Georgia, Alabama or the Back of Whoop-Whoop but that's my own personal opinion and I'm sticking to it.
Yea, what a great day today turned out be.

@Petter Okay, my apologies there, BUT I'm no patron savior of anything, I just do what I can for Australian Native Animals, mostly the birds and the reptiles, except those venous snakes that is.

Triphid replies on May 12, 2019:
@Petter Er, don't mention a Xstian saint (?) in the same sentence with an Atheist like me or young Henry please. We are both just people who care about animals, especially the Australian Native ones.
Maybe this is a wierd question.

For the life of me I can't seem to come to 'grips' with this " I'm an Agnostic Atheist" idea/comment. @CommonHuman, @Friskycat Weigh up the Pros and Cons on the subject in hand, look into each of them one by one with a clear and open mind seeing which has proven, tried and tested empirical evidence to back up the claim/theory, etc, and which has none, the make up your own mid and stick with it because Logic and Reasoning combined with Empirically Proven, Undeniable and Unfalsifiable Evidence ARE hre TRUE realities in life and of life itself.
Maybe this is a wierd question.
