Reminds me of the last time I bought one of those. Wanting to be discreet, I asked the clerk where the prophylactics were. He looked at me puzzlingly and I could tell he did not know what I meant. “A raincoat, jimmy hat, rubber, scum bag...” and so on I said until he got it.

@silverotter11 Out here we also get the imported Sth. Africa Thorn Bush ( more like a small tree than a bush though) and we call it 'Camel Thorn' it spreads like wildfire and has thorns about 3 inches long, sharp as needles, the only ways to kill it are either by up-rooting every bush you find and burning it or spraying it at the base of the trunk. I prefer to up-root it and then burn it. We also have the imported Prickly Pear Cactus to contend with, that too spreads like wildfire but science released the Catoblastis moth so 20+ years ago and for a while it was successful until a native species of ant discovered that the grubs were a great and easy source of food and, of course, idiotic 'townies' decided to actually grow the cactus in their gardens as well.

Just find where the tap root and centre of the weed is and pour boiling water over it, it'll burn the stem and the roots system, then dig the weed up and consign it to the garbage bin.

Except for the Aussie weeds known as 3 Cornered Jacks, Bidoorie Burrs, Copper Burrs and Love Grass. For example, the 3 Cornered Jack can spread across the ground to over a square metre in size, drop thousands of small seed cases with sharp thorns and is shaped very much like the old Roman Legion weapon knows as a Calltrop, Bidoorie Burrs grow in clumps and have sharp, piercing spines with a barb on each that hook into your flesh as you pass by them, Copper Burrs are similar but shed masses of tangled spines that when they stick into your skin sting and burn like hot copper and Love grass, well it's name tells it all, it sticks to your clothing and hangs on like a 'lover' you can't get rid of with its minute but equally nasty spines probing through to find your skin. Once you've been 'attacked' by any of those you never forget them and the pain you've experienced.

@IrishTxJudy No worries, did you know that making your bed soon or immediately after you get out of it also encourages and creates a lovely habitat and breeding ground for all those little nasties like bed mites, etc, that we shed every night? When you strip you bed to change the sheets, etc, ALWAYS leave the mattress bare and exposed to any light from the window for at least 2-3 hours BEFORE re-making it, ad if possible vacuum both the mattress and the bed base regularly, that helps remove any remaining nasties, dead or alive and leaving the bed unmade for as long as possible each morning exposes them to fatal doses of U.V. light.

@David1955 The Labor Party lost the plot not long after the shameful and rigged dismissal of the Great and Nationally Minded and Driven Gough Whitlam. Unions were once the protectors of the Workers of Australia, here in Broken Hill, where I was born, raised and still live, they did GREAT things, and a very few not so great things as well, BUT the good and great things have far out-weighed the not so good. Since the Unions have been almost neutered miners here now work 12 hour shifts with 10 days on and 4 days off where once it was 8 hour shifts 5 days per week, the Companies now DICTATE the working conditions, the workers and their immediate families suffer and pay the ultimate price. Once, a worker could retire at 60 and get on to the Aged Pension, NOW the Government, the Lib-Nat Government btw, wants people to work on until 70 or 80 years of age and, like the slaves of old, they'll most probably drop dead on the job THUS saving the Government of paying them a well overdue and richly deserved Pension. Is THAT what you want for yourself and future generations of Aussie workers? If so, then stick to your beloved Lib-Nat ideologies by all means BUT you WILL end up in the graveyard just like everyone else anyway.

So, being as Aussie teenagers were back in the 60's, a couple of friends and I got together and planed out a trick we'd play outside a Baptist Church one Sunday. I would lower my heart rate and pulse thus looking like I'd dropped dead suddenly, 2 friends would go into a panic, and the third would appear suddenly, as from nowhere, dressed in a ' borrowed' white kaftan, walk up, place his hands on my head, mumble some incoherent words and say, " Rise up my child, live again for I command it be so," and I would then rise up, fall to my knees and utter praise after praise to him. Oh how it worked, it was great, went perfectly and every single member of the Baptist Congregation, including the Minister, began hailing Tyrone as the Messiah and pushing money into everyone's hands, inviting us in the church, etc, etc. Of course, being honest, we gave them back their money and just thanked them and walked away telling them we had other people who needed our 'help' but that they should have faith and we would return one day soon.

The Believers bracket encompassed ALL Christian Sects, Jewish and Muslim as well as the more well known East Asian ones as well. Christianity, the Pentecostal, Evangelists and the Baptists fared worst with a whopping 91% followed by Catholics and Anglicans at 67% which to my mind say a whole lot about what religions are teaching/not teaching and what they are ACTUALLY doing.

Annual recorded average rainfall, when and IF we get it, out here is about 10,5 inches per annum, in the first 3 months of this year so far, we have received a massive amount, i.e. 1 inch of rain which disappears as quickly as it hits the dry, arid ground. The last, and only ever recorded time this town actually saw SNOW was in the winter 1967 ( July to be exact) when rail trucks coming up from South Australia arrived here with snow inside the open wagons.

Hitting a full grown merino sheep can turn a car into a pile scrap metal quicker than you say Jack Robinson. Back in 1979 I was riding 'shot-gun' on an International Acco truck when we hit a merino ram at a speed of just 80kph, the 'roo bar took the impact but it was driven right into the radiator housing, smashing the radiator, the belt pulleys and cracking the engine block. Recipe for simple Damper; 1-2 cups of either Self-raising or Plain Flour, a pinch of salt, water, flat beer, fruit juice minus the fleshy bits to mix the flour to a dough, knead the dough in a bowl or flat dish/pan, you can wrap the dough in Aluminium Foil IF you don't want the ashes to stick to the crust during baking or can merely bake it in an oven using a normal cake baking dish/pan. Get a decent camp-fire going that will leave plenty of hot coals, dig a small dent into the coals, place in the dough and cover it over, leave to bake. Once it is browned on the outside, remove it, brush off the ashes, cut it into slices or simply tear of chunks, add butter, lashing of, or, an Aussie favorite, Golden Syrup then sit back and enjoy with a cup of coffee or, another Aussie favorite, Billy Tea.

Yes, I'm full aware that a) the criminal element here still has and gets guns illegally, and, b) we do still have the odd random death by gun or rifle, BUT we do not have, most thankfully and hopefully NEVER, the dubious 'honour(?)' that American Constitutional Law has bestowed upon itself that has permitted the absolute ATTROCITIES of the needless deaths of Innocents in the MASS Shootings you lot have had over the years.
