My 'Jewish' grannie used to eat pork chops on Fridays so the catholics would have enough fish! She ate bacon a couple of times a week too, come to think of it. My granddad - her man was an Atheist in a foxhole.

@Piratefish It's still a deep-set practice among many of the Rough Carpenters ( Catholics) adhered to to this day, especially the edict of NO meats what-so-ever to served or eaten on Good Friday.

Hey, don't go thinking that priests and Nuns are as celibate as they'd have everyone believe because in ALL truth they are not and never ever have been. Why do you think that Convents/Nunneries ALWAYS had big Lime Pits somewhere out of sight in their grounds, it wasn't for disposal of human waste products, it WAS for the disposal of unwanted babies conceived by the Nuns and sired by the Priests.

Triphid replies on Mar 27, 2019:
@DenoPenno Yes well, the Hebrew word meaning 'virgin' can mean both young woman and or a woman/girl both nubile and not yet having known ( in the biblical sense here) a man. As a Professor once told me, " In every myth/legend, etc, there is usually 1 iota of fact/truth to be found but it is so deeply entangled in embellishments, etc it is almost impossible to detect." Historical records show clearly that the Ancient Romans, Legionaries in particular, practiced a sexual position known a the 'Lioness Position' for anal intercourse in the off-chance of preventing unwanted pregnancies. Medical sciences have shown that sperm CAN survive outside of the penis/birth canal for a few hours at the least and sperm is often found to dribble out of the birth canal are intercourse, ergo, it may have occurred SHOULD this 'virgin'(???) have had anal sex, NOT that I believe ANY of the religious twaddle in any way, shape or form that is. As for the mythological 'winged angels' of the Goat-Herders Guide to the Galaxy, they inception can easily be dated back to both Mesopotamian and Ancient Egyptian depictions of 'winged human-like beings' e.g, the Goddess Isis of Egypt and her sister Nephtys. Very little, or in reality nothing, in the bible is original to say the very least, it is ALL plagiarized and twisted accounts taken from far, far older cultures/civilisations in and around the region ad can be easily proven to be so.

@Heidi68 My late and much lamented daughter refused to dress like a girl/woman almost from birth. Yet she was very feminine about her hair, etc, however she'd get down and dirty in the gardens with me at the slightest opportunity, help me dismantle a car for parts, learned to shoot rabbits with a bolt action .22 rifle by the time she was 6 years old, always wore men's jeans and shirts, blatantly refused to play with dolls, could use an Arc Welder by the time she 10 years old, was not normally one to resort to violence BUT one time when a very nasty bully at school picked the wrong day and time she gave him an upper-cut that would have felled Mike Tyson. She once told me quite frankly that, " Any bloke who wanted to marry her wouldn't just be getting a wife, but a best friend, work-mate and would need to be able to keep up with her when working in around the house." I hope I brought her up the right way to suit her inner self, but sadly I'll never know now.

Triphid replies on Mar 27, 2019:
@Matias Yes, but modern studies are usually done using MODERN Ideologies as the base point, are they not? For example, An Archeologist digs up an object that may or may not have been a votive offering from perhaps 3,000 years ago. The object is cleaned, examined, compared to similar objects found elsewhere in that region and, quite naturally, 1+1 is mentally added together and, voila, it suddenly becomes an item offered to a God/Goddess simply because that is what the modern trend leads towards. We really have little or no actual idea as to how, what and why our earlier predecessors did, thought and behaved, we are simply guessing, slightly educated, based on modern behaviours, trends and assumptions derived from them. One salient point that comes to mind is the one, recorded by Champilon himself btw, was when he announced he had "found the key to unlock the writings on the Rosetta Stone" he was handed by the Archbishop of Paris a Papal Edict ORDERING him to NOT publish any translations that could be harmful to the Church, modern beliefs, etc, and he MUST ensure that his translations of Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs MUST paint the view that the Egyptians were little more than barbaric Heathens. IF he didn't do as ordered his entire family would be excommunicated and he would be imprisoned for life. This, like numerous other ideologies, has had and still has reverberations and influences throughout the Archeological world continuing to this very day. So, I hope that you see the point I'm trying to get across here, WE do NOT know precisely the truth about our most ancient of ancestors/predecessors, we merely guess based upon what influences prevail at the time.

@DenoPenno Get real please mate, anyone can list anyone they like as being their father, especially back in times gone by. Plus, I think you are NOT quite up with the Immaculate Conception Myth simply because it states that Mary was a Virgin ( not a Virgo btw) and "unto her an Angel appeared and told her she would bear a son who would be the son of God." And, Joseph was NOT wed to Mary at that time either in actual fact, according to the myth, they were only BETROTHED, therefore had he NOT fallen for Mary's 'alibi' she would have stoned to death for adultery

I rode motorbikes for years and never wore leathers, except for a leather jacket in winter or when it was raining, always rode with my headlight and taillight on day or night even when they weren't 'hot-wired' in as they are now. Only ever had 2 prangs, 1 was due to a bus driver who couldn't be bothered to give way to a vehicle on his right hand side and the other to a drunk, so tanked up to eyeballs, that before he failed to give way to me on his right hand side he had clipped 2 parked cars less than 100 feet away. Both prangs happened at night, both times my light were on and both times it was in well lit streets.

The miners were fighting for better conditions, better wages, etc, the things that B.H.P. did NOT want to give them just like the Miners at Eureka were also fighting for. Lest We forget applies to them as well in my mind. But, sadly, people HAVE forgotten and here we are today, controlled by government corruption and multi-national corporations who couldn't give a fig for anything or anyone except their profits. Triphid replies on Mar 26, 2019:
@BeeHappy I often have vegetable only based meals BUT that does NOT make a vegetarian/vegan. As a Nurse for numerous years I learned much about Human Anatomy, Digestion, etc, etc, and as such learned that Human Digestive System is more attuned to the digestion of meats and meat products than it is to vegetable based products. For example, Herbivores have multichambered stomachs and an appendix in their intestinal tracts where bacteria, etc, are STORED solely for the purposes of assisting with the breaking down of harder outer coverings of plant materials, seeds, etc, to enable digestion of said materials. Our appendix is extremely small, unused ad often becomes infected leading to Appendicitis with the possibility of Peritonitis or even Death if not attended to or treated simply because the bacteria that herbivorous animals rely upon are no longer stored there. We humans are equipped with Incisors to cut through and aid us to actually tear off articles of food, just like herbivores do with plant materials, but we also have pre-molars, to which those self-same bits of food are passed onto, that are evolved to further shred meat before they reach the molars for finally grinding before passing down the gullet into a stomach filled with digestive juices and acid strong enough to dissolve the meat fibres and release the nutrients contained within them. However, those 'juices' are NOT strong enough to dissolve and release the nutrients contained within the harder outer coatings that surround plant based materials since to do that we would a series of Rumens such as those found in sheep, goats, cattle, etc. For example, Has anyone ever noticed/wondered Why it is that after eating corn, for example, a large percentage of the corn kernels, though chewed up thoroughly, simply passes out of the body as faeces almost untouched and undigested?

I have personally shot many of them with a .243 high velocity rifle at ranges under 150 yards and seen the bullets merely bounce off their hides, especially around the chest and abdomen region where the skin is even thicker. They seek out the fresh growth along the edge of the roads between where the tarmac and the ground meet. That area gets a bit of run-off from showers, dew, etc, and the feed comes up soon after.

Only IF the carcasses are really fresh. Otherwise they begin to decay very quickly out here in the heat. Mostly, the ones we dragged off the road today are pretty well mangled and spread across the road IF hit by anything bigger than car, usually it's the Interstate Semi-Trailers, etc, that hit them at speeds of up to 110 kph with steel 'roo bars fitted there's quite mess. We saw one Kenworth Semi-trailer stopped about 100 yards from a splattered big red 'roo, the 'roo bar had taken the full impact and had been stove in right up to and against the radiator housing of the truck. The driver was okay and waiting for a Tow-truck to come out and help him prise the bar and the head of the 'roo away from the radiator housing.

@Haemish1 Hit a big red buck 'roo at 50+kph and you know you've been hit. I've seen cars with their whole front ends stove in right back to the windscreen and engines jammed into the cabin area. 'Roos are tough buggers at the best of times, the worst people can do is to, a) drive at the speed limits on highways/ bush roads at night, and, b) swerve to avoid them. I was once traveling back home from a place called Ivanhoe by train, sitting in the drivers cabin, when we hit a big red, the body went straight up and in through the windscreen of the Loco., the 'roo was still kicking and scratching as we tried to end its suffering and get out of the cab.

@azzow2 Better to use plain flour, add a pinch of salt and a bit of water (you can substitute flat beer, strained fruit juice or even a nice whiskey for a bit of extra flavor) as you knead the dough, then roll it into a loaf shape and simply baked on a largish flat stone placed in the coals of a campfire. The Swagmen, itinerate workers of the Outback in times past, used to just cover it with hot coals and let it cook that way then brush of the ashes when it was done. Tastes great hot with lashings of butter melting through it or hot with Golden Syrup spread onto it.

Triphid replies on Mar 20, 2019:
@Piratefish Recipe for Cheeseslaw , my own recipe. Take at least 6 good sized carrots, remove the top and ends then peel them, Grate them into shreds, add garlic, salt, pepper and diced onion ( a medium sized onion), then add generous amounts, at least 2-3 decent hands full, of shredded cheese, I use a mix of parmesan, mozzarella and cheddar, stir together in a large mixing bowl then add finely chopped gherkin ( pickles for the non-Aussies reading this) rounds and stir in, Mayonnaise, 1 can of Condensed Milk, 1 and 1/3 teaspoons of Mustard Powder, 1 dessertspoon of Lemon Juice, 2 tablespoons of white vinegar, Put Mustard Powder, Lemon Juice and Vinegar into reclosable container with a wide opening and mix them together thoroughly, then pour in the Condensed Milk and mix until it is a thick paste, similar to well whipped cream. Spoon, about 3-5 tablespoons full should be enough, the mayonnaise over the Cheeseslaw mix, then mix it through with a fork until everything is well coated with mayonnaise. You can then spoon it all out into sealable containers and place it in the fridge, it will keep quite well for up to 3 days and the flavors will enhance over time as well. Place the lid on the remaining mayonnaise and refrigerate that, it will last for at least 2 months that way and can be used on sandwiches, etc, when wanted. Note, for a little extra colour and flavor a diced Red/Yellow or Green Capsicum ( Bell Pepper) can also be added to the mix. Please feel most welcome to try it BUT beware both adults and children can find it to be very tasty and will eat as much as they can possibly get.

I tend to agree with you. Let the kids in if they are young enough to be salvageable. We have a similar case in the US right now. Her father is pleading for her to be allowed back in. I would almost say, make an example of her.

@OwlInASack As I posited before, I.S.I.S. is almost on the bones of its arse in the middle East so what better way to re-start elsewhere totally unexpected than by sending these 'brides' home?

@Marionville I've always had a bit of 'thing' for Bonnie Tyler and Suzi Quatro as well. But don't tell anyone, it's a secret....LOL.
Space explained - look in a "empty" cardboard box - what do you see - space, or area.
Triphid comments on Mar 14, 2019:
But, even when assumedly 'empty' a cardboard box is not truly empty in that it still contains something, i.e. AIR, just saying it and not intending to deride/ridicule or any such thing btw.
Triphid replies on Mar 15, 2019:
@johnprytz Not really because then cardboard box would add matter to the void, thus there would no longer be a 'void' as such.
