As to the question "How sure are you that there is no god?
Uncorrugated comments on Jan 28, 2018:
I am 100% sure that I have been presented with sufficient evidence to prove that a supernatural god/s exists or could exist. However, I also know that I don't know everything and that it is impossible for a god/s to exist in any form in any universe - but if evidence does come to prove a god's existence, then it will no longer be supernatural as it will have a natural explanation. The same applies to any other supernatural phenomena too.
Is it worth it
Uncorrugated comments on Feb 9, 2018:
I am truly sorry for your loss. It sounds like you had met a lifelong soulmate which you have lost through no reason of your own - very different from a divorce or separation. The hardest part to finding a new long term partner will be the natural tendency to compare them with your wife. You will never (and should never try) to replace her. Any new relationship you make will be different. Look to your new partner's qualities in isolation. Are they qualities you want in a partner? Do you laugh together? Do you enjoy the same things? Can you put up with the imperfections?* Can she put up with yours? Every relationship is different. A year isn't long enough to grieve properly. Don't rush, take your time. It may come and it may not. I wish you well in your future relationships and hope you find contentment either way. *by imperfections I refer to the little things that irritate - we are all perfect in our own way!
Imagine yourself walking along a path to an unknown destination.
Uncorrugated comments on Jun 1, 2018:
What a strange analogy. It takes zero faith to claim there is no evidence for god/s. First of all, we need to establish which god/s you are referring to and then you need to define it. As an atheist I do not claim that some sort of god could not exist somewhere in the universe. However, I see no evidence of any supernatural being existing in ours. The christian god is easy to disprove. The definition is poor, there is nothing in the bible apart from special pleading that could lead to the conclusion that it exists. An absence of evidence is not necessarily evidence of absence, but where there is an absence of evidence where you would expect to find it, then that is a pretty good indicator that what you are looking for isn't there. If god/s act on our reality in any way, then it will be observable and measurable. If god/s does not act upon our reality in any way. then it cannot be differentiated from something that does not exist. Theism and atheism ONLY address one proposition - that a god/s exists. The theist says "God exists" the atheist says "I don't believe you" "Show me the evidence for your claim and if it stands up to scrutiny. I will believe you" So far, none of the evidence offered has stood up to scrutiny. "I bet a lot of people looked at Galileo and said.... "Despite what you say, all evidence available leads us to say the world is flat" Now look how foolish that was" And on the evidence they had from their observations, it would not be unreasonable for them to think this. The earth is so much bigger than a person and most people had neither the equipment nor education to question what they could see. Once Galileo managed to educate the educators, his (and others') evidence was scrutinised and verified and consensus shifted to "the earth is spherical". When theists present some verifiable evidence for their god, I will become a theist. Not until. And I don't wander aimlessly, not knowing where I am going - and if I am and I find a chasm, I'll continue to wander aimlessly away from the chasm, because all the evidence I have tells me that trying to jump a chasm that's too far to jump is a bad idea. And that doesn't take faith either.
Atheism vs. Agnosticism: What do they mean?
Uncorrugated comments on Jun 20, 2018:
And we are also back to @themiddleway wrongly assuming that if you do not believe that theist claims are true, you are claiming that there are no gods. Just because you do not believe that something is true, does not mean you believe that it is false. Like in court, you find the defendant guilty or not guilty. You are only addressing one prong of the argument. On the evidence I have been presented with, I find god/s not guilty of existing. Should sufficient evidence appear to convince me otherwise then I will change my verdict.

Uncorrugated comments on Nov 3, 2018:
It doesn't make the slightest difference here in the UK as the majority of the population claim that they do not follow any religion. We also have Equality Legislation within employment law that makes it an offense to discriminate against anyone due to their religion or lack of it. So for me, it isn't an issue I have had to deal with.

What has landscape got to do with god I was brought up with beautiful countryside all around me - never once did I think a god had anything to do with it. As I grew and gained an education, I learned that some aspects of the landscape were glacial, some due to river erosion and the caves due to limestone being dissolved by rainwater. Isn't science and nature wonderful! Are the people of Georgia and North Carolina particularly uneducated?

Death Penalty?
Uncorrugated comments on Jan 23, 2018:
No. It isn't a deterrent. It is retribution not justice - the only people who gain from it are the lawyers. Once you justify legal murder, you are saying that there are circumstances that people deserve to die - and everyone will have a different justification and you live in a society where the mindset is that it is OK to kill if you can justify it.

How dare the pope ask ordinary Catholics to atone for child abuse? [msn.com]
Uncorrugated comments on Aug 22, 2018:
I can see why 'ordinary catholics' should atone for their sins. They have continued to support an immoral system. They have continued to go to church and put money in the coffers when they have no idea how that money has been spent. They have continued to support the church despite it having been known for years that it has moved paedophile priests around to hide their crimes. They have continued to support a church that has deliberately protected child rapists from prosecution. They have continued to support a church that has moved paedophile priests to other areas where they can continue rape children. They have continued to support a church whose clergy has openly stated that they would not report paedophiles if the confessed to their crimes. I think they should be really fucking sorry for for continuing to support such an organisation. Rant over.

Are you teaching your children that Santa Claus/Easter Bunny/Tooth Fairy are real?
Uncorrugated comments on Jan 13, 2018:
Imagination is great for development and my daughter was fed the myths of Santa and the tooth fairy. When she started to question we helped her to set up experiments so she could work out whether or not santa and the tooth fairy were real. We can all enjoy myths and fantasy and ghost stories, but as long as we have been taught the tools to separate fact from fiction, then I see no problems with it.

7 Simple Steps to Eliminate School Shootings Overnight by Kevin McCoullough [townhall.
Uncorrugated comments on May 20, 2018:
"Leftists" ??? I didn't see much leftist in the simplistic, poorly thought out nonsense in the article. None of the suggestions in there will eliminate school shootings overnight. Metal detectors won't stop someone on their way in to kill people. Drills won't stop the shootings - they might save a few people, but they won't stop the shooter. Arm more people -yeah, right. Lets put more guns in the schools. Show the consequences - do you really think that someone going into a school with the intent of killing people really gives a shit about the consequences? He's already accepted that reinforcing doors and windows doesn't work. No common sense Americans can deny the effectiveness of this shit? Is Kevin McCullough real or is this a spoof site?
A few things to put out there.

We are a diverse bunch, separated by a common language. Dictionaries try to define words by their common usage - the difficulty with this is that 'common usage' is different for the same words in different communities and changes over time too. I tend to clarify what I mean when I use words that I know will be used differently - many English words are used differently in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Sometimes the differences are small and sometimes the same word can mean completely different things in different times (gay) or countries (hood). As others have said 'To me...' is a great way to clarify your position.

Atheist = Depressed?
Uncorrugated comments on Oct 28, 2018:
I have no idea. I am not, and never have been, clinically depressed. I am rarely unhappy and enjoy my life. On days I experience what I consider to be negative emotions, I talk myself out of them. I focus on the positives and look forwards not backwards. It works for me. I have always been an atheist, so cannot compare if I would have done things different if I had ever been a believer and I haven't searched to see if there is any research to compare mental health with religiosity, except that the more secular the country, the greater their societal health. The happiest nations are mostly the scandinavian countries where religiosity is lowest.

Uncorrugated comments on Apr 22, 2018:
Nope. They are pretty much all atheists. The few theists I know probably think so, but no longer bother saying so as they know they cannot win the argument and can only resort toi their "faith" as a defence.
I believe in the power of faith.
Uncorrugated comments on Jan 3, 2018:
There is a difference between faith and expectation. I don't have faith that my van will start in a morning - I have a reasonable expectation based upon previous experience, knowing that it is regularly serviced and it is a make that has a good record of reliability. I had lots of faith that my old 1950's motorcycle would get me to my destination without breaking down. I had no evidence to back this up, as it never made it on any journey over about 40 miles. But I had faith that one day...... :-)
Why do you reject the idea of religion?
Uncorrugated comments on Jan 4, 2018:
Because it doesn't make sense. I see no reason to worship anything, let alone a made up mythological being. Almost all religions are based on fear and having to pay lip service to vengeful and self centred thugs. No thanks. I have more respect from those I share this planet with to waste time with made up rules that are not relevant to the world in which I live.

Do we need the mind?
Uncorrugated comments on Mar 1, 2018:
Mind is a word that describes the function of the brain. So unless you replace the description of what we call mind with a different label, then no, we won't soon throw it out. Language changes with time, so it may be that in 100 years we commonly use a different label for the brain's function.
Anyone besides me have questions about the shroud of Turin, or the question of the Stigmata?
Uncorrugated comments on Apr 29, 2018:
Lack of faith is a good thing. How can you be wrong for not believing something without any evidence to back it up? If you have to have faith to believe that an old rag has an impression of some dead bloke on it is actually 1200 years older than it is, then you can easily replace the word faith with gullible. And what question do you have about stigmata? How many confirmed instances have you seen? What is it about these two things that make you want to believe in a god?
Neoliberalism, how we got into this mess. [theguardian.com]
Uncorrugated comments on Jan 12, 2018:
Unfortunately it permeates the very fabric of our (UK) society. Big business owns the media and sells the benefits of competition to the politically illiterate and compares the 'austerity' of countries to the housekeeping finances of the family home. Make those with no power either think they can make a difference or marginalise them so much that they no longer bother to vote. Even traditional left wing parties are right of centre and perpetuate the myth that they are socialists - hence the attempt by those in the labour party's attempts to discredit Corbyn as he is too left wing and would never get votes.... Hopefully his success might be the impetus to get the young and disenfranchised to vote and actually start to make a difference. And all my pigs have been refuelled and are ready for take-off..........
Any luck

And generally far more successfully than meeting through pure dating sites.

I support your right to strike, but have no idea what you are trying to gain from it as your plight is poorly reported over here in the UK. From what I know, I assume that austerity is a big thing over there too and funding is being cut for salaries and education in general. Whatever your reason, strike action is not one that workers of any sort, take lightly. So if your conscience says this is the only way to highlight your plight and make progress towards a solution - then go for it.
Climate Change & Evolution Topics: Don't use "Belief" when discussing with irrational doubters.
Uncorrugated comments on Apr 28, 2018:
We're talking semantics again. I believe lots of claims. The reason I believe is because I have assessed the evidence for those claims and understand that it is sufficient for me to accept them as likely to be true. I agree that you can believe for good reasons or bad reasons, but provided you can justify your belief with sound reasoning, then I see no problem with saying that I believe that climate change is happening and that I believe the scientific consensus that the rate of change is being exacerbated by man. From my perspective the word to avoid is "Faith"

As a white male who doesn't (outwardly) do angry, I'm not sure what I am being accused of here. Anger is an emotion like any other and is just as valid as any other emotion. But like all other emotions, it's how you manage it that makes the difference. Unmanaged anger can lead to destructive and counter productive behaviours. So in heated situations I am often that white man looking to calm everything down and find a positive way forward. If you are talking about the broader inequalities of life, then yes, anger is a better mover than apathy.
Atheism Definition
Uncorrugated comments on Jan 13, 2018:
I have previously answered similar questions elsewhere, but to put it in a nutshell, I am an agnostic atheist. Atheist because I see no evidence that the claims of theists are true and have found no evidence that a god does or could exist. Agnostic because I do not know that a god cannot exist in any form in any universe. But until there is any credible evidence that a god exists then I do not believe.

Would you buy an electric car?
Uncorrugated comments on Dec 22, 2017:
Would definitely buy an EV if the price was right. Range not a problem for me as my commute is short, but that means it is not economically viable at present. For example, here in the UK both Renault and Nissan do EV's where you lease the battery, the cost of which is more than I currently spend on fuel for my car, van AND motorbike. I did run a Prius when my commute was significantly longer and an EV would have made financial sense then, but with bought battery pack.

ORAL SEX, are you getting as much of it as you want?
Uncorrugated comments on Feb 9, 2018:
...and I thought oral sex was talking about it! Must have had a sheltered life. ;-)
Would you buy 'Made in America' even when it would be more expensive than a comparable product?

It may be just the way that it was reported over here, but his statement about him not inventing the casting couch, seemed to me to be an admission of guilt. It implied (to me at least) that this was just bad behaviour and not criminal behaviour. Personally, I beg to differ. Just because you don't know you're a dick, doesn't mean you aren't a dick.
Atheists, whats the best definition of atheism? Which fits you?
Uncorrugated comments on Mar 8, 2018:
As an atheist, I do not believe the claims of theists that god/s exists. That is all. I am not claiming that a god/s cannot exist, I am only addressing the claim by theists that god/s exists. I do not see any evidence that backs up their claims. Should evidence be found that confirm god/s exists, then I will be a theist. The time to believe something is true is when there is evidence to support the claim - not before.
