I am an Apatheist rather than an Atheist but the effect is similar for my life. I love Nature and animals, gardening, cooking, computer word games, sudoku, Science, astronomy, neuroscience, walks in the park and by the seashore, and people and how they have come to believe the things they do. I am retired now, but still volunteer teaching English to refugees and immigrants here in Canada.

How do you feel about religious text associated with Easter?
WalterWhite comments on Apr 1, 2018:
Sometimes a Bible, or Qur'an, or the weighty Hindu Texts can be helpful at Easter to use as a doorstop to keep it open for welcoming guests to your Easter party. Have lots of good food, wine, light music, and lots of smiling and laughing friends. Should your Bible get dirty you can call up the Gideon Company and they will mail you another doorstop free of charge. Hope that helps!

Paranormal Experiences?
WalterWhite comments on Apr 6, 2018:
When you admit you do not know the source, and you have no verifiable evidence to go on, then the only logical conclusion you can arrive at is the answer, "I do not know." Not knowing the cause of something, and having no explanation is no reason at all to leap to speculations that therefore Thor did it,or aliens did it. Things that get tossed across a room was the only odd thing you mentioned, and the others most always have normal explanations. Was it something heavy that got tossed and were room conditions just normal at the time? The most common reason for something being thrown across a room is forgeting your wife's birthday! Human Psychology does often push us to use our imaginations to fabricate possible dangerous possibilities though. That is perfectlty normal and comes from our older lizard part of the brain from our caveman days when a noise in the night or something moving might be a sabertooth tiger! So we play it cautious and get fearful just in case we have to make a run for it. Parallel Universe ideas are not supernatural, but normal Physics.

WalterWhite comments on Jun 23, 2018:
Lots of good relatively non-toxic ant baits out there which they will feed on and bring back to their nest. The ants grow and farm the aphids underground and out of reach of natural predators like lady bugs. Aphids can just be washed off plants with a gentle hose spray anyway, but best to get them at the source.
Non Abrahamic atheist
WalterWhite comments on Apr 15, 2018:
I think Agnosticism is a world wide concept and it existed in ancient times just like Atheism did long ago too. Agnosticism is not based on belief or disbelief, but on the premise that the God concept and its existence are unknownable. Atheism is the one that has a lack of beliefs or a disbellef in gods. Some people choose the label Agnostic-Atheist to combine both angles. Some Eastern relgions do have deity concepts like Sikhism, Shinto and Confuscianism.

I the human spirit as our psychological need to connect to that larger reality outside ourselves, both for all of nature and our fellow human beings in it. Because we are a social species we have innate needs for social interactions and often using that love and compassion in us to help others and in turn be helped by them possibly. I also include things like a desire for truth and peace in my own spirituality.
Opinions about Myers-Briggs Type Indicator?
WalterWhite comments on Apr 9, 2018:
From what I have read it has a lot of critics for accurate results for people on average, but it may by coincidence work well for some people. Much like a newspaper horoscope might seem to have nailed it for 10 people and be useless for 100. People do not have specific barriers and their personality characteristics are on a wide spectrum. For each section the results might be close but they throw you to one side or the other. I just did it and it said I am an INFJ-A so maybe we think alike. Or again it was just coincidence! :)

You sound lonely to have so much invested in needing to know who is friends with who on a social media site, and not knowing can actually make you sad. Building up your own self-esteem and adding other interests in your Life might leave you less vulnerable to that feeling of being left out of one conversation between people you do not even really know. Just my two cents worth.

Not me. Been there, done that. Being a kid also "frees" you from the rights to have adult priveleges that kids can't wait to get old enough to enjoy! And I see you were joking so you know it too. Adults are allowed to daydream though about having more money, or fewer responibilities like not having to change stinky diapers at 3 am when you can barely keep your eyes open. :)

WalterWhite comments on Jun 10, 2018:
The no-dig method has its followers, but takes about as much work laying out the wet paper and compost covering each year around your plants. This top added nutrition may take a long time to actually work its way down to the root areas of many vegetables, fruit bushes, or deep rooted perennials. I am a lazy weeder and take a few of them out each time I pass by, rather than spend a couple hours of bending down labor to do it all at once. Also, I have a stainless steel bread knife for garden use only, and it makes a dandy weed head guillotine with a few easy swipes.

WalterWhite comments on Nov 22, 2019:
Uncle Google says the seed sprouts quickly, like and can become an invasive weed because it sprouts and grow so easily. Maybe very old seed? Some seeds prefer dark for sprouting but it did not say for froggy here. It says even chopped up runners will sprout in the soil, so once you go over it with a lawnmower it may retaliate and bury your house in new growth. haha
Population control
WalterWhite comments on May 2, 2018:
Mankind is too short-sighted to do much about the reckless population growth problem. Some of the climate damage is now already irreversible. Despite the warnings and stats, there is no worldwide public willpower to do anything serious about population control. The good efforts of say 500 million will not hold back the worsening of the situation by the lack of efforts by the other 7 billion. But it's okay because the situation is in the hands of higher power! That of course is Mother Nature who is already setting the wheels in motion to restore the balance, and she has no preference for one species over any other for who will survive. Earth has had 5 major Life extinction events already in the past, and one erased 90% of all life forms. Should be an interesting next couple of centuries.

Welcome, and I think you will find the discussions and topics here interesting. Feel free to offer your input, and some ideas and wisdom from older people are appreciated because they have had more life experience and had to deal with these same issues. It was a bit tougher in our day for older gays like you and me when even holding hands or admitting at work that you were gay was met with shock or being socially ostracized. I have a gay son who is now 36, and had few problems after he came out. He has been married to a great guy for over 12 years, and they have had a lot of support from family and friends for their relationship from the beginning. Being gay is less of an issue here in Canada now, but things are not perfect fro sure. We still have a ways to go to bring more enlightenment into some minds.

WalterWhite comments on Jun 28, 2018:
Well I did not know there even was an automatic "bad" word eraser here. But if 'thinking' is a bad word I will use cogitating from now on and sound very weird and still get the message across. As usual the teenagers have this kind of censorship already figured out, and they make odd slang words as a jargon between themselves that grown-ups do not catch the real meaning of. So here maybe the grown-ups can invent some naughty jargon that the AI censor authority does not recognize. So we could say, "Hey baby! Wanna have a stimulating game of chess upstairs?" and mean something rather different. :)

WalterWhite comments on May 26, 2018:
Yes, it has been known for a long time that gay men have pheromone scents that are more attractive to other gay men, and straight men do smell different. This works more like a gayday intuition kind of thing and along with other things like mannerisms, body language, tone of voice and general looks our brain can pick out compatible people who are more likely to be gay. In men this smell comes mostly from armpit hormones. In women there is a similar thing but it is more noticeable in a woman's urine smell.

How to respond to a proselytizing sibling?
WalterWhite comments on Apr 4, 2018:
Just because she is a family member does not mean everything she wants to do must meet your approval, or needs your brotherly advice. The same as all the things YOU do, do not need her approval or advice, correct? Family memebers will do unproductive things sometimes. Lack of results and a negative experience may discourage her eventually, and it is better for her to learn that on her own to have it sink in better. So no need to interfere and let her do her misguided thing. :)

Religious Homosexuals
WalterWhite comments on Jul 7, 2018:
If you list all the possible "sins" in the Bible, and only let those who don't have any in the pews, the pews would be empty. Then Christianity would soon go out of Business selling its dreams of a magic afterlife for cash on collection plates. Most sins the Christians have no problem with, but they love to find a target to look down on and feel superior. On the early part of the 20th century divorce was the big sin, but when Christians started getting so many divorces themselves it slowly changed to picking on gays even more than they used to. Strangely, there are higher rates for unwanted teen pregnancies, and for use of Internet porn in the Bible Belt States, yet THEY are the ones telling other people how to live their lives!

Is free will real?
WalterWhite comments on May 16, 2018:
Yes, we have the illusion of free will, but it is not true free will. And most people have no idea how much power their subconscious mind has over their day to day decisions. A lot of our decisions are in fact made for us by details processed in our hidden subconscious master brain, and we just think what we decide was done all by our conscious selves. But the system works very well and it works so fast and so seamlessly with our slower conscious mind that we get the illusion we are deciding things entirely on our own. Our conscious mind has no real direct connection with the outside world except for what our subconscious mind decides to show us.

If people are feeling "stalked" by someone else who just happened to visit a post they did go to, or will go to, then that is not really stalking, but just normal chance coincidence on similar topics of discussion. And that is how they probably encountered each other in the first place. Blocking works to stop active interaction.

Sometimes yes, the parents may be doing too much which might hold the mentally challenged person from trying harder. And sometimes they coud be doing the right thing, but to YOU it looks like they are doing too much from YOUR perspective. Earth - better off when humans go extinct?
WalterWhite comments on Apr 13, 2018:
"Better" is purely a human subjective moral judgement, and it only has context in relation to how humans think. We are only a temporary species and unfortunately the end of our species line. Mother Nature has no reason to think we are special or worry if we go extinct by our own hand, or by mutant virus that couldstrike any day, or another Extinction Event like the several we know Earth already had in the past. 99% of all species that have ever existed are already gone, and new ones emerge all the time. Things will be different always because life forms evolve and conditions change, and after Homo sapiens is gone it will be different again and still changing. There is no "better" except from an imperfect human point of view.

WalterWhite comments on Jun 24, 2019:
Well, I am sure the maids already pay taxes, and it is their rich employers who have lawyers to find ways to avoid paying taxes. Churches are Businesses that sell dreams of a magic afterlife for cash on collection plates, so it is immoral and unjust that they do not pay taxes. Generally I would expect a barn picture of a girl holding hay fork, or sitting on bale of hay, or maybe being next to a horse or cow. This tilted chair setup looks fine and professionally contrived for the portrait though, so full marks for that. Just my layman's view so don't take it too seriously.

As soon as you process any raw food you increase the rate of its decomposition, so you should use it right away. Better not to juice because you lose important fiber. Blending is not necessary and we have teeth and a disgestive system specifcally designed to function best by chewing foods slowly to prepare them for the chemical factory in the stomach. No harm for having some juiced or blended foood in moderation for convenience or taking for a later snack in your workday of course.

Mostly it is because many of us imperfect Homo sapiens are more often driven by hidden emotional and psychological needs than taking the time to use our brains to learn and make better decisions. Also we do not actually have free will, so that complicates things.
Religion vs God
WalterWhite comments on Apr 4, 2018:
Them having misguided beiefs and bad comprehension problems does not get me upset much. I am old enough to not let people get me upset, or push my buttons, with mere words. I choose my own feelings, and giving power to others to make me sad or angry or upset with words is something I grew out of back in my early 20's.
Cd god create a rock so solid that god couldnt break?
WalterWhite comments on Apr 16, 2018:
That's called a nonsense question, being a contradictory paradox, but many people enjoy making up answers anyway. From my experience I'd say there are a lot of things Gods can't do. They can't even write ther own Word of God books, or make any money, without lots of human help.
Who else here doesn't actually have recipes in the general sense but goes by instinct for the most ...
WalterWhite comments on Aug 5, 2018:
I use recipes as a guide only, and always adapt them to my own tastes. Some things like ratios of baking powder to flour must stay the same of course, but for flavor ingredients I will leave out their required anchovies from that quaint little shop on Yuwang St in Shanghai, and their very best imported truffle oil, and use what I have on hand and actually know I like. And I often upscale it if they use inferior processed ingredients.

It may be hard to tell your paint water from fruit punch at times. :) Unless sprayed like in airbrushing or eaten the paints are rather safe. The chocolate looking umbers and the cadmium reds and yellows should not be used as syrup on ice cream no matter how tasty and tempting they look!
Canadian invasion. eh?
WalterWhite comments on May 5, 2018:
I suppose I must confess the truth that these are special Canadian Air Force military trained geese equipped with GPS and miniaturized cameras under the wings. They do aerial surveillance for us, saving billions and we get very clear shots of interesting places like Area 51, the Pentagon, and Arnold Schwarzenager's back yard.

Fine job! Each year I seem to add a new raised bed or expand an old one. It's great growing some of your own food.
Do you have pictures on your refrigerator?
WalterWhite comments on May 14, 2019:
Nope, but it has my monthly calendar of appointments and activities, and a few other useful notes like that oft used Italian bread recipe. haha Pictures I have on walls, computer, phone, and burned sketchily into my mind.
Insidious nature of the closet
WalterWhite comments on May 18, 2018:
Depends on your particular situation. Here is Canada things are more relaxed on average for coming out as anything, but we still do have some issues of course. Atheists have trouble coming out in the Bible Belt, but Theists might have trouble coming out in Scandinavia. Gays find it easier coming in big cities where more gays gravitate too, than in small rural communities. It still seems difficult for trans people everywhere and I too was more awkward about it from lack of knowledge maybe 10 years ago. I do try to see everyone as a human person first, and then add on the other lesser labels of color, orientation, ethnicity, gender, religious group or lack of, etc, later on as I learn more about them. While not into pot myself, I have no problem with it for others if the terrible smell is not in my face.
Do you like animals
WalterWhite comments on May 6, 2018:
Yes, I confess I am an ailurophile, because I find cats so alluring. I have had many cats over the years, mostly Siamese. And I guess I can safely say I speak cat now because each one has helped to teach me how to be a good servant to them, and appropriately worship them. I do like all animals really, unless they look at me like I am lunch.

Probably to affect hormonal status the women would have to see further down than the guy's face. Did I just say that aloud?

Do you believe all children are naturally born Atheist?
WalterWhite comments on Apr 9, 2018:
No. That's a popular fallacy that makes as much sense as saying maple trees and frogs are Atheists too because they lack a belief in gods. Common sense tells you that to come to the decsion to be an Atheist it takes some thinking and maybe some research about some advanced mental concepts that a newborn (and a maple tree) do not have. To say babies are Atheists is a great diservice to the intellectual process needed.

For our safety, all Qur'ans and Bibles must be checked the door on entering, just in case they spill their contents and do someone damage. Have fun!
Do you believe that religion is a natural human development resulting fromtheir inability to explain...
WalterWhite comments on May 31, 2018:
In the books I have read on it, mostly they say the former, And it comes naturally from our human psychological weakness to use our imaginations in problem solving, and tendency to put human like thoughts and feelings into things in Nature. So in the beginning early man imagined spirits in the forces of Nature like Earth, Water, Air, and Fire and came to try to bargain with them by making sacrifices and worshiping to gain their good graces to have better crops and prevent floods and storms. Later families of gods with human characteristics and needs and emotions were invented, and lastly monotheistic personal type gods. It was in these later stages that enterprising people made religions more into a Business model as a way of controlling fearful gullible, superstitious, and uneducated people. And for explaining things like lightning, earthquakes, floods and famines etc. And most importantly of course, a good way of selling them fake dreams of a magic afterlife, or reincarnation, for cash on collection plates! Even today, in order to protect their revenue flow, religions try hard to get kids indoctrinated early in families, and even to get prayers and religious ideas into schools and the curriculum. Business is Business!

Not in any of the progressive modern countries, no. That would only be in countries where education is not at a decent standard if it still has relgious influences, and the government still has strong religious influences, and a large portion of the population is still indoctrinated in one religion or another. In most modern countries where relgions are dying out you find happier people living more at peace, and on average with less crime, less poverty, and fewer social injustices and higher levels of education. Any country where religion still has a strong influence, such as in the U.S., will have more crime and violence, unequal education opportunites, more poverty, more social injustices and on average more superstitious fearful people. Am I wrong?
