Can anyone help me locate a quote about the law?
It is a comparison of how law is applied to different entities (rich/poor/commoner/connected/powerful/etc.) The quote sounds rather classic like this one by Anatole France. "The law, in its majestic equality, forbids the rich as well as the poor to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal bread." The one I'm looking for is something along the lines of, "There is one group the law protects but not restricts, and one the law restricts but not protects." Thanks in ...

Interesting read, though through the lens of 2016. :-----: "Vonnegut, like Sanders, was a frequent defender of socialism. One example can be found in his book of essays A Man Without a Country: “Socialism” is no more an evil word than “Christianity.” Socialism no more prescribed Joseph Stalin and his secret police and shuttered churches than Christianity prescribed the Spanish Inquisition. Christianity and socialism alike, in fact, prescribe a society dedicated to the ...

Thoughts on the Bernie/Warren kerfuffle?
What are your thoughts about the claim made by Elizabeth Warren's camp that Bernie told her in private that a woman could not become president. Bernie denied it. Warren felt he essentially called her a liar in his denial during the debate, as per her question caught on hot mic afterward where she refused to shake his hand. Did she misremember and/or misconstrue whatever Bernie said? Did she lie? Did Bernie lie? Was the timing an attempt at kneecapping Bernie though she was friendly with him ...

LINKThe Meaning of Life Learned by Those Who Have Greatly Suffered
Usually these experiences occur when our minds are fairly quiet and we feel at ease with ourselves. When we’re walking in the countryside, swimming in the ocean, or after we’ve meditated or had sex. We can feel a kind of radiance filling the landscape around us, emanating from the trees and fields. We can sense it flowing between us...

LINKIsrael is Silencing the Last Voices Trying to Stop Abuses Against Palestinians - CounterPunch.org
"The collective punishment of Palestinians, such as restrictions on movement and the theft of resources, was inevitable the moment Israel moved the first settlers into the West Bank. That is precisely why it is a war crime for a state to transfer its population into occupied territory."

LINKWhy the Corporate Media Won’t Call It a Coup
"Army generals appearing on television to demand the resignation and arrest of an elected civilian head of state seems like a textbook example of a coup. And yet that is certainly not how corporate media is presenting the weekend’s events in Bolivia. No establishment outlet framed the action as a coup; instead, President Evo Morales “resigned” (ABC News), amid widespread “protests” (CBS News) from an “infuriated population” (New York Times) angry at the “election fraud” (Fox...

One of the ladies that we had helped out that day came up to me and asked, ‘Why didn’t the people who committed these acts come back with you?’ And I was just devastated. And then she finished her sentence: she said, ‘So we could forgive them.’ I’m not man enough to do...

LINKVeteran’s Day — a celebration of peace becomes a sacrament of war
"When I enlisted, and every time I re-enlisted afterward, I took this oath to “protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” It’s a pro forma exercise, or the entire military would have to go on strike — because in Vietnam, Guatemala, Grenada, El Salvador, Colombia, Peru, Somalia, and Haiti . . . others can chime in from Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria . . . I never met a single enemy of the Constitution of the United States. In every single instance, I had one small role or...
