The Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn has been in the news of late.
Willow_Wisp comments on Dec 25, 2020:
It's a conjunction of two different gods from two different mythologies that are are confusingly the same. Saturn is the Roman version of the Greek Titan Cronus who was the father of the Gods but didn't want kids so he'd swallow them all as they were born, but the wife of Cronus loved her children and switched the first with a large rock then kept him in a secret place to be raised as Zeus, who ultimately defeated his father and freed his brothers and sisters, Zeus in Roman is Jupiter. So from an astrological vantage point it's like misogynistic overload, double the toxic masculinity, just as the world faces the Trump toxic masculinity as well as toxic masculine movements all over the world. An unfortunate coincidence that many will take as evidence. After all it's one hell of a coincidence.

Reductive evolution depends on the ability of a species to receive the benefit they lose by being able to manufacture needed material directly from the environment. We primates have a good example of this, vitamin C production. When our distant ancestors had a mutation that disabled our ability to make our vitamin C they probably didn't notice, their diet already was rich in vitamin C due to fruit and vegetable consumption. The same mutation has probably happened in obligate carnivores on an individual level, but they die of scurvy before passing the broken genes to their descendants. Consequently we primates are the only family of species I know of that have no ability to manufacture vitamin C from an all meat diet, like cats, dogs, and killer whales.

There is a special wit to so succinctly saying something so clever. There's an art to it. Like an odd sort of poetry. Some of us love etymology, it's how I taught myself Old English back when the Internet was not something available except at universities. Either super computers or modem dial in that was limited or prohibitively expensive. I just cross referenced five unabridged dictionaries. We had one that was 27 volumes. But the others were just preposterously large books with small type that included the history of a word. Knife is spelled this way because in late Old English it was called cnīf with a hard c like can, from Old Norse it was called knífr, of Germanic origin. Try listening to Chaucer in Middle English, it's a different language and has a bit of my fascination.

Willow_Wisp comments on Dec 25, 2020:
It's a concern but not necessarily as much to fear as we expect. Yes we need to address this. Judges are more tightly constrained in their opinions then you might think. I know of no higher court judge that pulls opinions out of their ass because the opinions can only be built on precedent, not personal opinions. The worst situation they seem to achieve is being nudged toward using harsher language in their opinions. For example RBG couldn't just make an opinion that women should be treated fairly, she had to show how gender discrimination adversely affected everyone, even white men, before her opinions could carry the weight they needed to effect change. Republican politicians in particular find it perplexing when conservative judges don't tow the party line, but the line they're being called on to tow is to arbitrary and superficial for the judges to allow the nonsense to continue. But yes, if presented with the right case and with the right precedence they could overturn Row V Wade, but they can't and don't do such things the way politicians do, otherwise they wouldn't have ruled that the 1964 Civil Rights act article 7 covers LGBT+ issues, it's illegal to fire someone because they're queer or trans, not a ruling I would have expected from the SCOTUS that did it. Yes their faith disturbs me.
The issues regarding 'trans' people are some of the hardest for me to reconcile.

Willow_Wisp comments on Dec 24, 2020:
If Christians want to save Christianity they need to sound a lot more like the famous leftist Jesus. Lets face it there's always been believers, but here's the irony of it. Right wing Christians, Pre Civil War, were slave holders that preached rules and punishment, at the same time there were liberal non slave owning Christians that basically believed in humanism, fought for liberation of slaves and equality. Somehow since 1980 and the Reagan revolution the Right Wingers claim to own Christianity. When I believed I studied the words of Jesus (whom Christians consider God) and it was all very liberal. "What you do to the least of these you do also to me." Or the story of the good Samaritan, that's an ethnic slur not a title. Samaritans were despised they believed an older almost completely different version of Judaism. If Jesus told the story today I imagine it would be about Ministers and TV Evangelist trying to get money from a starving person and how a gay atheist fed him and nursed him back to health. I will always be grateful for my foundational studies in humanism coming from Christianity, but honestly when people are loud about "Christianity" they are specifically referring to white supremacist political Christianity. If the First and Second Councils of Nicaea were held in twenty first century America white supremacist Christianity would be called Heresy. Most people reject white supremacist Christianity for what it is, a capitalistic tool to enslave the masses just as Adolph Hitler used Christianity. Our reaction isn't a war on Christianity, it's a war on fascism. I greatly enjoy liberal Christians that involve themselves in politics, they advocate equality and helping people, LGBT and all. Here's a sample of Rev. Dr. William Barber II. one of a select few I enjoy hearing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9oqItV8FB8

I did little theater for awhile to overcome painful shyness. It's weird on stage, I couldn't see any faces at all due to the stage lights so I pretended the plays were being filmed and the audience reaction was the sound track that also becomes part of the act in the sense that sometimes you had to react to it while making it all look like part of the act. It was exciting, the only down side, old theater people who just went on and on as if their experience was the only one that mattered. I doubt that's as much of an issue with comedy, but I haven't had a chance to do comedy unless you count AA testimonials.

I wouldn’t know who most current celebrities are if you held up their photo and gave me a multiple choice test. I hear the name JZ, no idea who that is. I resent politicians because I barely knew who Trump was except he was big enough in the 80’s for me to despise him then and I saw him for like 30 seconds on the apprentice so I knew to avoid that entire network, but you absolutely have to pay attention to politicians because you should always know who’s raping you. I never have more than one close friend at any given time, and I avoid overexposure preferring to not see them more than once a week and then not for over an hour at a time. I feel like an innocent forced to live on a battlefield, honestly if I could go into complete seclusion I would just so long as I can have internet access, I can admire or loath from a vast distance that way.

Willow_Wisp comments on Dec 16, 2020:
In 44 BC, following the death of Julius Caesar, a comet appeared in the heavens over Rome and was accepted to be a manifestation of the divine soul of Julius Caesar. It was thought to herald a new age of peace and prosperity. Augustus used this event to emphasize his familial association with the deified Julius. What does it have to do with the Nativity? It's a popular culture when there wasn't much by way of media. If you think people have a problem with "In God we Trust" on our money imagine how people in Palastine using Roman coins felt. Obviously if Caesar gets a star then so should the Messiah right? In fact like Christians today they tended to borrow validity anywhere they could, including the Magi that brought gifts. Magi was the title given to the priest class of the religion of Zoroastrianism or Mazdayasna. So if they brought gifts then the Jesus religion is better. It's as if Mormons claimed the Pope came and blessed the Mormon Temple in Utah, which of course he would never do, but what a propaganda coup to tell such a lie and get away with it. There's very good reason to believe the very same comet was claimed to be the Christmas Star it didn't matter that it was anachronistic, there's a lot of scrambled history in the Gospel fan fiction.

The best thing about Batman was his Bat Cave and his Bat Computer. The best thing about Superman was his fortress of solitude. I always wanted secret passages and hidden safe rooms, but that's so expensive, and easy to misunderstand. I considered joining a a religion that does cloistering and vows of silence just to be left the F alone. But childhood terror fades, I got married, for 14 years, and we had two daughters and a large comfortable house that was mostly paid for. "=OldTime / (SQRT(1-((Velocity * Velocity)/(SpeedOfLight * SpeedOfLight))))" So OldTime is whatever unit's you want them to be... like 60 could be thought of as Minutes, Seconds, years centuries, the value of Time is still accurate. So that's the transformation in Excel for those linguistic people out there. So if OldTime is On board time and 60 goes by (I'll assume that's minutes) and you're traveling at 186,000 (miles per second) you need SpeedOfLight to be 186,282.396 so it's in miles per second as well, your result should be 1,090.077925, so for every hour that goes by on the spaceship 18 hours ,10 minutes , 4 seconds, and 675.523 milliseconds pass for their spouce still on Earth... Weee, this is fun! EDIT: an asterisk goes between SpeedOfLight and SpeedOfLight, also between Velocity and Velocity...but asterisk don't show up in message...

It depends on the circumstances of my situation. My sister graduated from high school, got a job at Walmart bought a mobile home and parked it on my Dad's property. She lived there until she died in 2015 of colon cancer. She never had a different job, she never dated a man, or a woman for that matter. She was sexually abused by my Dad and by the time she died she weighed at least 650 pounds. I'd rather live a short life then endure many birthdays without really living at all.

It would help if people weren't so gullible for validation of their toxic opinions. Without that most of this wouldn't even be an issue. Since I'm not a "Republican" AND a "Christian" I'm obviously a cannibal that eats children because that's what Christian Republicans want to believe about anyone that doesn't agree with them. You can objectively call people out truthfully even if nothing they say about you is true. Then they play the "both sides are the same" game because we point out something obvious, like Republican racism, or fascism when we see it. In their minds it's the same thing they do, but I honestly don't recall ever accusing them of eating children; just them taking them from their parent who they deport and keeping them in cages so they're going to have emotional problems for the rest of their lives. See how this works? It's all one sided, lying social conservatives (euphemism for fascist), verses factual observation from everyone else that the fascist insist are just as bad.
It's amazing that a cartoon created in 1941 applies so well 80 years later.

It's in their nature and always has been. Henry Ford was a Nazi sympathizer of epic proportions. George H Bushes father George W. Bushes grandfather, sold aircraft fuel to the Nazi regime while we were actively at war with Germany. I can't and will not now or ever work for an authoritarian effectively. I believe in teams not fucking kings. My boss is a Trump loving authority freak, he figured out (because I was quite clear about it) that I don't play that shit. So we never talk, he handles whatever administrative responsibilities it is that require my name on his list, but I basically come in when I want, leave when I want, and work on what I need to work on without supervision of any kind. Our lead electrical engineer was the same way I am about this, and the first person I know that died of Covid, but some years ago he all but quit over the same boss and his petty bullshit when he made a scene about him coming in five minutes late. For me it happened when we were about to have a meeting as I went into the conference room I pulled out my cell phone to silence it, "Willow, no phones in the meeting, you owe us a box of donuts!" It's been like four years and I haven't bought a donut yet, stupid prick. But when I'm working with the mechanical engineers we put in late hours, work on weekends, come in early yet not one of us gets weirdly bossy like that. I'm convinced it's a form of mental illness, one I had more then enough of in the military.

I wish someone spoke up when Trump scolded a reporter for talking to him in a manner that displeased him. After over a quarter million dead Americans I'd say agent orange hasn't earned the right to receive any respect at all from anyone. In fact I advocate throwing shit at him and openly questioning his sexual relationship with his mother. Screaming at him as one does when a rabid animal comes too close to your family just seems completely appropriate. I hated Bush too, but even with that war criminal I'd refer to his stupid ass as "Mr. President" albeit begrudgingly, but this idiot clown Trump is fucking vermin.
This made me happy. Like most kids I did have goldfish when I was little. [msn.com]

I knew someone that set up a koi pond in Birmingham Alabama, they lasted about a month before the raccoons ate them all. I mean they did try to save them, they put a wire mesh called carpenter cloth over the pond, but the raccoons just dug under it one night and enjoyed their last koi supper. $3,500 worth of fish, turned to raccoon skat.
Have you ever done something unprofessional at job?

I’ve been isolating since this thing started, no trips to the beauty parlor, if I must enter a store to buy something I get in and out as quick as I can. Yet for all my precautions some careless ass may have touched a door knob or a countertop and despite my best effort’s I could still contract Covid and fucking die before vaccines are available. It makes me bitchy as hell, if everyone put in 10% more effort it would preserve thousands, but no we have shit heads that make asses of themselves in the name of ignorance that they stupidly call freedom. Honestly over the last four years we have more evidence of how useless and entitled some 35 to 40% of our population is then we did from the last century combined and that’s with all the world wars and everything. None of the social progress we thought we made was real, none of it. We’re surrounded by like 70 million American Nazis. Racism is as prevalent as ever, and religious superstition is still used to justify all of it.
Now we know how he deals with those screaming kids!

I had just received notification that my aunt in Pascagoula Mississippi, the last of my Dads 20 brothers and sisters had died of Covid (she was convinced Covid is a leftist hoax, certain she had lung cancer to the last) when a guy was seriously telling me how Covid isn’t as big of a deal as everyone was making it out to be. I didn’t argue. The effort would have been a waste. So far seven people I’ve known have died of Covid.
Looking for a copy of this one for my collection....

Like the day I was filling up my car at the gas station and turned to see a guy with a purple Mohawk. I mean I had seen them in photographs and TV, like Road warrior but never in person. Instantly I was laughing so hard I farted, that was even funnier and with tears running down my face and my sides hurting I realized I wasn’t being kind, which made it even funnier. I think it’s the only time I have ever laughed at anyone that way, and I’m so sorry that I did that but I swear it was 100% reflex. The general rule of thumb for me as a trans-woman now is to never laugh at someone’s appearance. It could end badly, but this was 1990 and I hadn’t admitted my trans ness to myself much less anyone else. I was a dick, but I’m laughing now remembering it.
