Because I live in the heart of the bible belt, it's never heard here in rural South Carolina. Most people in Dixie eschew common vulgarity which is often used north of the Mason Dixon line.

@SeaGreenEyez Lovely theory. Won't work. One reason (one of a long list) is most blacks can't afford a trial lawyer. Cops have their unofficial quota to fill and getting dragged back into court for false arrest is less likely with blacks. Another reason is blacks like staying outdoors. Go through a white neighborhood and it's rare to see them using their lawn furniture. It's the complete opposite in black neighborhoods. It makes them far more easy to arrest than white people.

Staggering drunk, pass out on the floor drunk cost $1.50. That was opposed to $60 bar bills to take her out on the town. Oh, it was an affair to remember when telling wild tales. WonderWartHog99 replies on May 27, 2020:
@Moravian We need to discuss this over suds from my favorite craft brew pub, *Brews on the alley.* It'll be a wallet flattening experience. One local is selling Bud for $2 a draft while at *Brews on the alley* the drafts start at $6 and can wind up costing $10 a pint. The significant trade off is the craft beers have more octane punch that the $2 Bud. I've paid $8 for beers with a 11% alcohol content. It's like ordering a zombie instead of a beer. Therefore, I limit myself to two beers. Petunia is more forgiving when I tell her "Darling, I only had two beers." She isn't hip to the octane difference between a Bud and what I'm drinking. She hates beer, so it isn't likely she will learn either. *Brews on the alley* offers about 18 different craft brews on tap. In the past, they'd stock up to 300 different types of bottled craft beers.

Does that mean you dealt with ALL the publishers on the planet or do you have a reference to cite except for yourself? Some of those "middle of the road" publications were driving all over the place. Therefore my second point, they don't fit in neat little pigeon holes who's conservative or liberal.

@glennlab >It was the conservative owners that saddled the newspapers with debts that they could not support. I am a former newspaper journalist. When I was between jobs, THE thing to do was read the *Editor and Publisher Yearbook.* I wanted to send letters of introduction and resumes to newspapers. The yearbook provided me with critical information such as name of the publisher/managing editor, street addresses, paying subscribers. My qualifications for the next job was: 1) must have circulation of over 20,000; 2) must be within a 1,000 miles of where I was living (employers dont think the next employee will travel further than a 1,000 miles for a job interview); 3) must be a daily publication. That was the era when 800 long distant phone calls could cost more than a house payment and affordable internet wasn't available. Stamps were cheap. It was a job search that didn't work 80% of the time because they weren't hiring. However, it was always an approach that got me a job. Why should that matter to you? For one thing with all that information, it DIDN'T say if the paper was liberal, conservative or published by the raving lunatic fringe. They didn't want to make that kind of judgement call. I don't think that information exists for public consumption. You'd have to read all the newspapers published in the country to be certain where they stand. The yearbook never provided information on if their company was a sinking ship or rolling in loot. If the newspaper had gone bust, it wasn't listed in the yearbook. Therefore, I raise an eyebrow when you claim you have done a detailed search to come to your conclusion on your point that I cited above. I put your claim in the wild guess group. >This is far too complicated an issue to address in a few messages. In other words, shut up already.

Starvation, disease and attacks by the natives was common. A good bit of the time it was a death sentence. The theory was if you did survive, you might wind up paying taxes to the mother country. It took the new invaders a while to figure out that the typical English garden didn't thrive in the new world. (I've tried to grow English and European crops with crop failures). First thing a gardener does while moving around modern America is seek out the county extension agent to find out what can be grown in the area. Here in South Carolina the joke with too much truth in said the great depression was over when you can find a rabbit. Rabbits here are still in short supply.
