Once a citizen travels abroad there's no promise their own country will protect them. The reason the cartels are there is because in Mexico law enforcement is corrupt. The US will not change that. Hunting down criminals in Mexico is futile. The most useful information in the book *The People's Guide to Mexico* is how to negotiate the bribes to the police. ## Generally, midrats suck. It's whatever was left off from the other meals. However my fondest memory of the US Navy one night's midrats. We were coming back from a six month cruise. To reward the crew for a particularly brutal deployment, everyone got lobster at dinner. However most of them didn't what a lobster was, what it tasted like or how expensive a lobster was. As a result, the people on midrats got all the lobster they could carry away. I took a half dozen to the fan tale to get away from the crew. Tossed the empty husks into the star lighted Pacific Ocean while I ate.
