Why do his followers believe Trump's lies even when he's been caught red-handed?

anglophone comments on Aug 3, 2020:
It can get even harder in some cases. In my own case, I have the symptoms of idiopathic reactive hypoglycemia, which symptoms have been verified by no less than four independent doctors. The issue comes with the current state of medical research, in that there is as yet no common agreement between researchers about the time delays between food consumption and any subsequent hypoglycemia, and the levels of blood glucose to be used as a definition of hypoglycemia. Even two trained endocrinologists scratched their heads at what my body is doing. Essentially, I am on my own with this condition, and I need to train all relevant medical and ancillary staff that I encounter in any hospital.

anglophone comments on Aug 3, 2020:
Jesus was a very common name in that place at that time. You must first define which Jesus you are talking about. If you mean any Jesus that was resurrected, then my answer to you is "no". anglophone comments on Jul 19, 2020:
First up: the way you share all your feelings here I find to be wonderful. But to return to the matter of memes (and I will also add clichés to that): There are times a well worn theme, be it a meme or a cliché, adds a necessary nuance to my words precisely because it is hackneyed, so I have no hesitation in using them.

anglophone comments on Jul 15, 2020:
I do not have a "belief system". I have a world view. "Belief" is an ambiguous word. In the context of religion, it means claims made which are devoid of supporting falsifiable evidence. My world view is built on falsifiable evidence. Religion exists, and believing the claims of religion appears to be essential for billions of people. I regard the word "spirituality" as being meaningless.

anglophone comments on Jul 13, 2020:
I went into agnosticism at age 20, and came out the other side as an atheist at age 30. My own position is that the Scientific Method produces far more useful models of the natural world than does religion: a vaccine against tetanus is far more effective than "trying to pray away the disease". I do not, and cannot, understand the mentality of those who cling to religion like a drowning man. Me spending the rest of eternity in Heaven singing the praises of the genocidal maniac known as the God of the Bible? No, as that would be pure Hell. I also have an aversion to those who use religion as a way of fleecing other people of their hard-earned cash.

We’re the same age, but you don’t want to date me because I’m too old. What's up with that?
anglophone comments on Jul 2, 2020:
Mental age is far more important to me than physical age. A woman of my age (67) with the attitude of a five year old (and I know of one such woman) is a real no-no for me. My latitude is -25 to +10 years. Anybody who refuses to date somebody their own physical age for solely the reason given has a severe attitude problem, and I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

anglophone comments on Jul 1, 2020:
The current pandemic is causing stress to those people who are suspectible to such stress. My prejudices tell me that religious people, by virtue of being unable to think clearly, are more suspectible simply because they are less likely to understand what is happening in the world. If this viewpoint is admitted, then I infer that those with religious beliefs will merely have such beliefs reinforced ("God is testing us.").

anglophone comments on Jun 21, 2020:
I see America, or more properly the United States of America, as united by the states that have agreed to be united. However, I see it as catastrophically divided (translation: *dis*united) when it comes to the principle of treating all its citizens equally. I see this situation continuing for as long as it pleases those who are in positions of economic and political power to continue to enrich themselves financially at the expense of "the common man" (to borrow a phrase from England).

According to my physics teacher, people who become atheists will be punished by God.
anglophone comments on Jun 6, 2020:
He may be good at teaching physics, but he is demonstrating catastrophic cognitive failure elsewhere. It is trivial to infer the following: - He has no understanding of the Scientific Method - He has no comprehension of the nature of falsifiable evidence - He is committing the logical fallacy of special pleading his own Allah - He is demonstrating compartmentalised thinking (Francis S. Collins, a world class geneticist, also demonstrates compartmentalised thinking) - He is making unfounded assumptions about the both the nature of time and the nature of causality. As @twill observes, many smart people are stupid. An example of that is Einstein's claim that "God does not play dice" when in the context that Einstein was using He clearly does. Putting that quote into context, Einstein was rejecting the notion of quantum mechanics (QM), and QM has subsequently shown itself to be a very good model of that part of the natural world to which it refers. "So put that in your pipe, Mr Physics Teacher, and *smoke it!*" Edit: as you may have gathered from the tone of my comment, I have no time for galloping great fools.
