Not in my case. I am building a larger arsenal of quips and put-downs for against such mental defectives.
Ever so cute. Yes, indeed. America must do better as a united nation.
anglophone comments on Jun 21, 2020:
I see America, or more properly the United States of America, as united by the states that have agreed to be united. However, I see it as catastrophically divided (translation: *dis*united) when it comes to the principle of treating all its citizens equally. I see this situation continuing for as long as it pleases those who are in positions of economic and political power to continue to enrich themselves financially at the expense of "the common man" (to borrow a phrase from England).
Elijah McClain was a kind and gentle 23 year old who worked as a massage therapist in Aurora, CO.
anglophone comments on Jun 21, 2020:
As a watcher of the American scene, it saddens me that such petitions rarely if ever get anywhere. Action is taken by the decision makers *only* when there is insurrection. Those decision makers need to be put in fear of their own lives before they become willing to act.
Mornin' everybody, Sunday here and it's colder than nudist on an iceberg.

Still the same old same old. After all, God put theists on this planet for the amusement of atheists - nothing new there then.
What does this pic suggest? Your interpretation is highly valued.

"Why did we abandon God? Without God, we are doomed. Time, perhaps, to put religion back into its rightful place, back into the legislature of every State in this great nation of ours. Likewise the White House. Only then will we have hope."
What lead you to agnosticism?
anglophone comments on Jun 20, 2020:
I went into agnosticism because I doubted what I was told by religious cretins. I went out of agnosticism and into atheism when I realised the value of the Scientific Method.
Have you ever been offended by being an agnostic or atheist?
anglophone comments on Jun 19, 2020:
No, but I have been hilariously entertained by assorted cretinous God Mobsters as a result of my atheism.

I wonder a lot. Could this really be a reason?
anglophone comments on Jun 13, 2020:
I can understand it before the Age of Enlightenment dawned, and @LenHazell53 has given a very good backgrounder as to what was happening in that part of the world at that time. Whet gets me is that in this day and age there are people who accept as "true" the manifestly absurd claims of the Bible (and the Torah and the Quran while we are about it). The ability to think seems to be beyond them.
The longest journey you will make in your life is from your head to your heart.

According to my physics teacher, people who become atheists will be punished by God.
anglophone comments on Jun 6, 2020:
He may be good at teaching physics, but he is demonstrating catastrophic cognitive failure elsewhere. It is trivial to infer the following: - He has no understanding of the Scientific Method - He has no comprehension of the nature of falsifiable evidence - He is committing the logical fallacy of special pleading his own Allah - He is demonstrating compartmentalised thinking (Francis S. Collins, a world class geneticist, also demonstrates compartmentalised thinking) - He is making unfounded assumptions about the both the nature of time and the nature of causality. As @twill observes, many smart people are stupid. An example of that is Einstein's claim that "God does not play dice" when in the context that Einstein was using He clearly does. Putting that quote into context, Einstein was rejecting the notion of quantum mechanics (QM), and QM has subsequently shown itself to be a very good model of that part of the natural world to which it refers. "So put that in your pipe, Mr Physics Teacher, and *smoke it!*" Edit: as you may have gathered from the tone of my comment, I have no time for galloping great fools.

anglophone comments on Jun 1, 2020:
As others have indicated here, this is a topic that keeps recurring here. For what it is worth, I see the article that you have posted as being very poorly thought out. I see it having a false dichotomy, and an ignorance of the Scientific Method, and the logical fallacy of special pleading. Whoever wrote it probably failed Philosophy 101.

Too many atheists are hostile to the religious.
anglophone comments on May 24, 2020:
I disagree. As an atheist I am supportive the religious under some conditions. I am also hostile under other conditions. I make a sharp distinction between those who seek to understand and improve their own lives, and those who try to ram their own opinions down my throat. The latter group traumatised me, and I see no good reason why they should be allowed to traumatise other people.

Do you think that religion has played overall good or bad role for human during this Covid pandemic?
anglophone comments on May 16, 2020:
The simple answer to your question is "no in my opinion". A longer answer goes like this: "Religion is merely a system of belief. It is religious people that do good and bad things. Those who claim that Covid-19 is an Act of God are doing a bad thing. Believers can also do good things: the good of humanitarianism has nothing to do with the evils of theism.".

anglophone comments on May 5, 2020:
Sex sells, and it's not just women's bodies used in that. The Chippendales https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chippendales were once used to sell a certain brand of beer. I would suggest that the advertising industry has just as much of a part to play in the objectification of women's bodies as the wolf whistles from those with builders' cleavage. Those of us who treat women as people first tend not to make a noise about it. As with any person, I am of course aware of their apparent gender (they could be trans for all I know or care), their apparent age, their apparent health, and such parts of their personality (in the widest possible meaning of that word) as they care to make known to me. Your edit has set me off in another direction. Nobody has any business making remarks about somebody's body or apparel (or lack thereof) unless it is made clear from context that said person is happy to receive such remarks.

It is not religious discrimination. It is discrimination. It is a way of sidelining naval personnel who do not subscribe to religious bullshit. It is a form of apartheid, social apartheid. Adults are recruited into religion by means of indoctrination from babyhood. It would take an extremely brave legislature to forbid parents from indoctrinating their own children into the religion and sect chosen by said parents.
