Children tend to be credulous. It is part of their survival mechanism as children. Being able to question what you are told develops as an adult, but some people are so brain damaged during their childhood that they do not develop that ability. Welcome to brain damaged adults inflicting brain damage on the children of their day. I am glad your brain survived.

anglophone comments on Feb 25, 2020:
The models of the natural world that come out of science are far more useful than the models that come out of religion. Putting it simply, "It [science] works, bitches!". There is also the issue that different religions and different sects within each religion often contradict each other. Again putting it simply "Therein lies madness!". My own journey out of theism started with Karl Popper's idea of falsifiability, the upshot of which was "Nobody has ever provided any falsifiable evidence to support the existence claim of any god in the last 5,000 years.".
What do Atheist think about reincarnation?

anglophone comments on Feb 24, 2020:
Belief: a position accepted as being true, but in the absence any supporting evidence. Belief system: a set of beliefs on a set of related matters. A belief system need not have a core concept as it can be built around an approach to explaining the natural world. Think of the Greek and Roman gods, along with Buddhism and Daoism.

anglophone comments on Feb 23, 2020:
The concept of God exists. To claim that "God exists ... as the beauty we see in the natural world" is to conflate ideas which conflating inevitably results in confusion. Religions, along with all their associated concepts, also exist. Trying to get rid of all concepts dealing with religions is as absurd as trying to get rid of the ideas of balrogs, pixies, and phlogiston.

Have you ever thought of religion and communism as not being that different?
anglophone comments on Feb 19, 2020:
I presume that you mean both extreme religion and extreme communism. The former has a God that is *not* on earth, while the latter has a God that *is* on earth. Both subjugate the masses to terror at the whim of an individual. Think of Ferdinand and Isabella, and Pol Pot.

I prefer the term "cognitive failure" rather than delusional. I need to justify the above remark. Such people consistently use logical fallacies to justify their positions. Moreover, they are never able to justify their assumptions. The words "facts, truths and beliefs" are worthy of some consideration along with the idea of "a model of reality". Facts, to quote Eugenie Scott, are a dime a dozen - they are things that you can observe and measure directly. Truths are personal - one might even go so far as to say that everybody's truth is different, one has only to compare an atheist's truths with a theist's truths. For my money, a belief is a position claimed without any supporting evidence. Different people have different models of reality, which is why some people can function in this life better than other people: people who pray for a cure for their cancer are far more likely to die early rather than those who seek a medical cure.
