I take my atheism very seriously. My life before was engulfed with religion, specifically Christianity. It was my family, my community, my everything. I feel just as strongly in the opposite direction now. I feel this way because Christianity is dangerous. Its followers make major decisions, like who to vote for, based on fictitious claims. Dangerous? I can't speak for outside the U.S.. Inside though I think it matters where you live and work. You may have to watch your back more but the constitution stands behind us.

I grew hoop poor too. Only difference was there were chores but they were expected, we didn't get paid for them. This was also back when babysitting could be done by any teenager. So most of my money came from there. I was and am a saver not a spender. I think the parents who just hand over money are robbing their kids from a good work ethic, which they'll need as adults. Owning hands down. I do not like apartment life. It's too busy, noisy, dirty. My house was my home. I said who could come onto my property (how close I allowed people to me and mine). I was on a dead end street and every party, adult or kids, was at my place. Again though, on **my own terms**. I had a quiet place to go to each morning and read while enjoying the sunrise. Can't do that here unless I sit on nasty stairwell. Next chance I get I'm moving back into my own home. Where I can change what I want when I want cause it's alllll mine.

I flatly told my very Christian mother that I wasn't going back to church. See I'd been away for about a decade. Then had a breakdown and fell back on my old ways, attending church again. Once the breakdown was over I stopped going. She noticed. Asked when I was coming back. I told her I wasn't. She's barely spoken to me since and I'm only one of her two children. Beyond that I started putting up agnostic an nd atheist posts on my fb page. I'm sure I'm on the "prayer chain". My ways aren't accepted. They just look at me as being lost. Like the prodigal son. It will probably remain that way until everyone passes. As far as your mom, I'll encourage you to go just to show her you love her. Even if you need to "accidentally" show up **after** service ;)
