I don't see myself as "smart". So kinda hard to answer that one. Ignorance though held me in Christianity for decades. So maybe an atheist because I was exposed to more knowledge??

I had a very difficult childhood however I remained a Christian until much later.

Yes I get this too. Or that this is just a phase (10+ yts) that she's going through because of the trauma. I think on some level my childhood plays its role but it's more than that. I've read through the bible multiple times. I've been a singer on Christian radio. I've attended mass gatherings where the Holy spirit was in charge. I've been exorcised and been party to them on others. I was deep in. Seeing people still sick and dying. Noticing the contradictions with no one able to explain why. The hatred. Bring part of the "army of god"sent to strike down those who believed differently from me. All of it brought me to atheism. And I'm grateful. My eyes are opened and I'm free.

Hello zster! I'm kinda just peeking in to check any posts. I have 3 years until I'm an official empty nester. My eldest though has been out of the house since she graduated at 17. Even though she's handling life like a pro I still worry about her and feel an emptiness in the everyday without her. My son is 17 and I have another daughter 15. The way time is flying, they'll be gone in a blink. If I'm feeling this hole inside of me now how much worse will it be later when they're all gone?

I see there are lots of answers. Which is no surprise as this is a great question. It depends on the age of the children. See, a mom doesn't want to have multiple men in and out of their kid's lives. It has an impact on the children. My son, for example, felt for years that his father and my next long term relationship person left because of him. He felt abandoned by them both. I know this because he finally told me and I must say, it broke my heart. So please be understanding on her request for the moment. Both my relationships were about six years each and my kid still felt unworthy of a father figure. So timeframes are also important. Is Good luck with your relationship (L)

Don't "stone me", but I think no. These are my reasons. I grew up in a cult with major sexual abuse. Another example is the Catholic and Baptist churches with their sexual abuse stories hitting the fan. Plus intranet child porn being at a high. I don't like what I currently do; I am bored. I was forced into retirement in 2011. I was in health insurance and annuities. I also did a ton of sales for AARP, ACD, and Liveops. With no restraints I would sing professionally and give half of my proceeds to the Children's hospital. Money makes things happen. I want to provide that.

Beautifully stated. I was an avid runner. I've lived this. There was a 7 car pile up on the interstate. Every disc in my back was effected. I haven't run since. But looking at the small achievements helps. I've moved from hospital bed to wheelchair to walker, cane, and now I can walk on my own. Will there be running in my future? I don't know, but I have my accomplishments and I have today.

I chose no it's not wrong. To say ones preferences are wrong is to bring us back to being LGBQ+ is wrong. Which it is clearly not. We can't even take that stance heterosexuality. Straight people have a right to not be called "wrong" either. I'm native American Sioux and bisexual. I gravitate towards causation and light skinned males and specifically Puerto Rican females. I wish that my family would have accepted me at age 10 when I knew I was bisexual. Instead they did indeed try to pray and exorcise the demons out of me. It was pure hell being held down by 4 full grown men as the entire church gathered around and yelled at the so called demons inside of me. I, to this day, don't do well in crowds. Touchy subject. As a single mom of a male child, I'd say that yes a good father would be the best possible scenario. Simply because of like following like; A tree grows from trees, etc. Now lacking a "good father" figure, you're left with mom, foster home, streets, community. Community working with mom sounds best out of that batch. Then there's the "perfect 1950s family" with a male and female raising one male child and one female child. But then there's usually hell behind the walls that the rest of us do not see. You don't know someone fully until you've lived with them. Further we can discuss mental issues. Is a psychopath born or raised? or is it a combination thereof? There are a lot of factors that go beyond simple "gun control" and way beyond "thoughts and prayers". I think this issue should be broken down to its basics to find a conclusion, but how do we get there when we can't agree on something so small as the definition of a family.

I first questioned my beliefs when I was younger than 10. I was brought up in a Christian cult. Being sexually abused and not protected, as promised in the bible, started my doubt. I was an adult before I told people I was agnostic. It began with teaching my children about every religion instead of just one. I taught them that way so that they could make up their own minds rather than being forced to traditionally/blindly follow in set footsteps. I have 3 children (ages 15,17, & 18) and to date there is one Christian (which is what the rest of my family is), and two agnostics. I'd say I raised them pretty damned good :)

Should religion be taught in schools?
