Most domestic dogs respond to command words (Sit, Stay, Heel) If you have that problem again try to use these words it will break the dog's hunting instinct and distract its psychology. Waving a pole at it might come off as an aggressive move to the dog. Just like turning your back to it and trying to run will make it more apt to chase you because when you do that its hunting instinct tells the animal that you are now prey.

I was once outside of a hospital which was also a cancer treatment center. The is where I observed a nurse wheeling a patient out of the hospital. The nurse then took a cigarette out of the pack and gave it to the patient then nurse lit the smoke. I could not resist to ask why she would encourage this? The nurse replied that the patients tend to die faster if their habits are interfered with. So using this as a complex metaphor the same thing should apply. Do what you like and don't stress yourself out trying to change.

I have also heard that good looking people are passed over because it is assumed they are taken or that the interested parties are intimidated by the looks. I was in Hollywood some years back and one of the producers was talking to us and had said that may actresses are over looked because men find them intimidating.
