69 year old retired guy. Happily married. Financially secure. Reasonable health. Active 'adventure' traveler. I enjoy the Caribbean, South America, New Zealand, Australia, and the National Parks of the USA. We enjoy gardening in the spring and summer here in Ohio. We raise a vegetable garden, lots of strawberries and asparagus. And a large Hummingbird/butterfly habitat. I'm a conservative guy politically, lifestyle wise, and believe in 'live and let live'. You're not going to change my opinions on stuff. And I'm not going to try to change yours. I'm here for interesting discussions on numerous topics....

bigpawbullets comments on Oct 9, 2018:
I’d like to thank those who have responded so far to my question. What stimulated this, along with the adverse reactions to the Government intruding on privacy, were some musings about my personal past and where I think I’m at in questioning this ‘privacy’ thing. So, I’m re-hydrating with a good Old Vine Zinfandel after mowing the lawn. That should be taken into account here. So! For those who are “Star Wars” aficionados, where do you see yourself in that universe? Are you a Rebel? Or, are you part of “The Empire”? I remember seeing the first Star Wars movie in Tucson, AZ., with a bunch of my USAF fighter pilot buddies & fellow USA Gun-Ship Drivers. We were all just back from Vietnam…. Thankful to be home and not too beat up. Taking courses to achieve a master’s degree in clinical psychology. <Acceptable therapy for what we now know as PTSD>. Anyway, Fighter pilots and USA Helio drivers standing on our seats in the theater and cheering on that first gunfight scene! Bunch of overaged juveniles!!!! We all considered ourselves as the ‘Han Solo’ rebel persona. Might have been something to do with the Millennium Falcon. So,back then I was 24, single, and ‘batshit crazy’. Now, I’m 68 years old. I’ve lead, so far, an interesting life. Still, ‘Batshit Crazy’. I admit to it. But, I now realize that I’m in fact, a card carrying member of ‘The Empire’. And I have been, probably since I was 15 years old. So! Why should I obsess about the Government having all kinds of data on me? And why would I care if they decide to keep it up-to-date? The truth is, I don’t care. I’m comfortable in my lifestyle, my finances, my future <short as that might be considering my age>. I figure I’m in the 4th quarter, no time-outs remaining. I’ve nothing really to hide. I’ve fought for the Empire and bled for it. And in return, The Empire has been pretty good to me. So, Privacy concerns….. Nope. I’m good.

You're more than welcome here. Personally, and I don't speak for anyone else here; Religion is not a big deal to me. And I believe the Republican party of today emphasises that too much. Racism: I see no difference between the two parties other than the Democrat attempt to label Republicans as racist, and themselves as "enlightened". My view is "Small government is better than Big government". I also think Socialism, which the democratic party appears to be moving towards, is a danger to our country.

Personal experience from working in the following countries: Mainland China, Nationalist China, Singapore, Korea, Vietnam, Japan, & Russia: All these cultures/governments consider industrial espionage to be a legitimate business practice. They see nothing "wrong", illegal, or dishonorable about it. And as the article indicated, companies in the USA know this and should take appropriate precautions & countermeasures. Few do. The three corporations I worked for tried. But were only partially successful.

bigpawbullets comments on Oct 4, 2018:
@Leutrelle brings up an interesting point. At my age, I've <optimistically> two more decades to live. I doubt I'll live to see universal gun confiscation. But, I might! My last decade of life, I probably won't care. But, I might! In the business world, all companies should have a Strategic Plan in place for one, three, and five years into the future. This plan should be updated at least annually. My wife and I apply this concept to our personal life, and have for the past twenty years. It works. A traditional Strategic Plan includes a section for "disaster recovery". So! After that lengthy introduction, for those still reading.... Do YOU have a strategic plan to remain armed for say, the next twenty years? Does your plan cover the "disaster" of universal gun confiscation and the outlawing of gun and ammunition ownership? I do. I hope you do too.
