Hi, Chris, and welcome to the website! By the way, this website has a bit of a learning curve. For members who are open to dating, certain thumbnails and profiles have a heart symbol on them with a percentage. This identifies which members are open to dating, and the percent shows approximately how compatible others are with them. You can improve your website score in general by uploading a clear, recent photo of your face, answering all the profile questions and writing a bio, which also earns website points, and helps other members get to know you. Commenting on posts and writing your own posts earns more points. At level two you can private message people, and at level eight you get an agnostic T-shirt. If you want to date, the website uses profile algorithms to find member matches, so the more details one includes, the better the match. Many people prefer to see a written profile talking about interests, hobbies, and backgrounds that can be quickly perused to find others who are compatible with them. In case you didn't know yet, to find members near you, click on the "Browse" button at the top of the page, then on "Members," and enter your preferred search parameters. Click on the "Discuss" button, then "Nearby" to find members near you also. Or click on the "About" button at the top left of the page to find links to FAQ or the website tutorial. Points are now being given to level 3+ members who chat. You can see chat rooms on the group main page or at https://agnostic.com/groups/rooms.

Anybody else just flat out unable to get into e-reading?
birdingnut comments on Aug 23, 2018:
When I left the US, I donated my vast book library to the local library for a tax rebate, and gave the illustrated science and nature books to my home schooling niece. I am relieved not to have to maintain such a vast library or have dust puffed into my face each time I turn a page. With the Kindle app I can read Kindle books on all my devices and they sync to each other; I can be reading a Kindle book during the commute to work on my tablet, have it on my home PC, or read it on my work laptop-the app keeps each device current with my reading place. I can even read Calvin and Hobbes anthologies as the the illustrations appear perfectly on the apps. I can adjust the font size, color, background color, or copy part of the books. When I forget my reading glasses, I can make the font on my tablet extra large. There are hundreds of free books on at the Kindle store, and if you buy a Kindle reader, you can read most of the books for free, so I'll do that what when I return to the US.
Is it healthy/better in a relationship to share our respective shadows and triggers from our past ...
birdingnut comments on Aug 23, 2018:
Depends. If you are in a long term relationship, these things can be revealed slowly over time, but they aren't appropriate to share in the first six months or so. If you break up, your secrets could be spread to others, or put on the internet. If you are female, it's never wise to spill your guts to a man, or tell him all our past mistakes or about your past with your exes.

I doubt it..I'm pretty old..65, yet young men here (and many other places) have asked me if I'd be interested in them. Sometimes, though, young men like an older woman because she would be likely to have a house, good income, and they can relax and be taken care of. In my case, when my kids' friends message me to hit on me and ask if they can come to Thailand, I tell them that they can't live with me, and that I won't sleep with them, so they disappear.
Not sure if this is place to put this.

birdingnut comments on Aug 22, 2018:
I never heard that expression, and I avoid religious people. If they try to lecture me, I act bored, say, "Um-hum..that's nice," and walk away. But if it amuses you to argue with them, maybe you'll do them some good. By the way, this website has a bit of a learning curve. For members who are open to dating, certain thumbnails and profiles have a heart symbol on them with a percentage. This identifies which members are open to dating, and the percent shows approximately how compatible others are with them. You can improve your website score in general by uploading a recent, clear photo of your face, answering all the profile questions and writing a bio, which also earns website points, and helps other members get to know you.
Mail carrier finds boa constrictor on Overland Park porch | The Kansas City Star
birdingnut comments on Aug 22, 2018:
They had boa constrictors (red tail) in Haiti where I was born and grew up, with American missionary parents. My brothers used to keep the local boas for pets. They are very gentle and easily tamed.
Apparently, religiousness is correlated with "porn related moral incongruity".
birdingnut comments on Aug 22, 2018:
Naw..I'm demisexual so porn does nothing for me. Hetero sex scenes make me feel disgusted, lesbian sex scenes make me feel indifferent and bored, and gay male sex scenes seem mildly romantic.
What has being a skeptic cost you?
birdingnut comments on Aug 22, 2018:
Nothing. Except dumping a lot of annoying people from my life, and getting rid of religion.
Does anyone besides me watch "Preacher" on AMC?
birdingnut comments on Aug 22, 2018:
Hmmph. A preacher who controls people, and runs around with someone who drinks the blood of others? Sounds like any typical white evangelic preacher, to me.

birdingnut comments on Aug 22, 2018:
I like myself as I am. For insomnia, skip the coffee and chocolate, also limit highly processed foods, take a walk before bedtime, turn off your devices an hour before bedtime. A few grains of powdered catnip will knock you out so quickly, it's best to get ready for bed first. For depression, try CBD oil, since studies show it relieves depression and anxiety. "A 2015 study concluded that CBD oil is a promising treatment for numerous forms of anxiety, including social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. What is your best interview advice?
birdingnut comments on Aug 22, 2018:
Research the company, know what the job basically entails, know what comparable jobs pay, have extra resume copies with you, dress for the job and company standards, be early, know what you want and your own deal breakers, ask questions about the job as though you are interested. Most companies only want to know two things..will you actually show up and do the work, and will you stay with them so they aren't wasting their time with you.

Interesting article on the cost of a date in the US by state: [yahoo.com]
birdingnut comments on Aug 21, 2018:
I used to have new dates meet me at a Bar-B-Q place for lunch at Cave Run Lake near Morehead, KY, then afterward, hike the access trail and scale Lockegee Rock-an easy climb for a beginner. Pretty cheap for a date. That way, even if the guy was a dud dude, I still didn't miss my Saturday birding hike and got some delicious lunch, plus could see if the guy's profile bragging about his weekly hiking routine was accurate. Hint: they were usually lying.
It's the middle of August and the Halloween decorations are on store shelves? <blink><blink>??
birdingnut comments on Aug 21, 2018:
When you think about it, all these "religious" holidays are based on old pagan celebrations, so it doesn't matter when they put out the decorations. Thanksgiving is based on Europeans invading North America, breaking all their treaties and committing genocide. Christmas is based a lie, since Jesus didn't exist anyway. I don't celebrate Christmas anyway, since I've been living in Thailand since 2010 and they have better holidays.

birdingnut comments on Aug 21, 2018:
I'm sure Trump's constant assertions that Manafort is a "good man" is signaling Manafort that if he doesn't sell Trump out, he'll pardon him.
I'm curious to know your opinions....How honest do you think one should be in a relationship?
birdingnut comments on Aug 21, 2018:
You might want to read "The Rules," a guidebook for masculine-trait women who lack the hard-wired instincts of a typical cis hetero woman with strong femme traits. When with men, let them take the lead, don't sleep with them until you're exclusive, never treat men as soul buddies..i.e., don't pour out your heart, tell them about your past exes, etc...save that for your girlfriends. Don't be clingy or needy, but have your own life, friends, and work. Let them pay for dates, give the romantic gifts, and stick to neutral gifts and cards. Typical cis hetero males with strong male traits need to be the predator, and if women reverse roles on them, they will usually flee.
Today is a great day for our country.

Do you believe in dreams?
birdingnut comments on Aug 21, 2018:
Yes, I believe that people do dream. But I don't believe dreams predict the future unless you are someone who can do so. My oldest brother once told me, back in the 1970s, that when he slept in the same house with me, he dreamed accurate dreams of the future, but I was only aware of being able to do that when I was awake. My friends and family back then, in Haiti, and in college, routinely asked me about everything, and whenever they did, I suddenly knew the answer, but nobody really thought about it as being unusual..it's just the way I was. They'd ask me when someone was going to arrive from Port-au-Prince, and I'd "see" the camion where it was at the moment, and also know how long until it arrived, for instance. I never wore a watch but always knew the time, etc.

That happened just now with the book series, "Invasion," I just bought on Kindle. The first book was a bit "disaster cliche," but OK, but by the second book it was like the author had given up..flat characters, little rhyme or reason to the action, cluttered plot-it became such an annoying chore to stay interested that yesterday I gave up and returned to re-reading an old favorite series.
