To thirty-something and forty-something singles: Instead of online dating, what do you do socially ...
birdingnut comments on Jul 31, 2018:
I met great men at ballroom dances, and I used to volunteer to clean up local parks, national forest lakes, etc. I also went trail riding on my horses and met people, and at my local organic food coop. I used to have so many dates, I looked on dating as a chore I made myself do..to eliminate men I don't like and find someone good. But when I did find someone good, it was from an online dating ad on Match.com.
What's an absolute noway for you in terms of physical attraction?

What type of church can you go to when you are an agnostic?
birdingnut comments on Jul 31, 2018:
I love Thai Buddhism, but it's not like the type of church you maybe want. Unitarian Universalist churches welcome agnostics. You don't have to believe in a god to be a faithful Unitarian Universalist. http://uua.org/node/108906 via @UUA
How many of you have gone through a tornado or earthquake?
birdingnut comments on Jul 31, 2018:
I have..both. A tornado came to my farm in Morehead, KY, in 2002, and was over our house, after going up highway 60, ripping up trees and trailers in its path. My ex was screaming that we should take cover but I just told the tornado to dissolve, and it did, since quantum mechanics teaches us that nothing exists that we haven't imagined first. My kids knew to do the same, and my daughter did that to a tornado that was crossing the baseball field and almost to her middle school door, except she told it to skip the school, so it jumped over it and destroyed the hardware store across the street. I told her to tell tornados to dissolve next time. We did stuff like that all the time, and even my ex learned from me and mentally diverted a tornado that was heading for his house after we broke up. That's one thing the Biblical Jesus allegedly taught us..that anyone can control the weather. If you troll me, I'll just block you. In 2013, I was relaxing in my hammock in my fourth floor apartment in Nakhon, Thailand, when I noticed that the TV was rocking back and forth, then the hammock frame did the same. I got up and the floor was heaving like waves. I managed to get dressed and get down the stairs, but by then it had stopped. I walked across town to a shopping mall where a Thai official was addressing a large crowd. I eased up and asked a Thai man (in Thai) what had happened. He said there had been a 6.1 earthquake in Aceh Sumatra, just across the Andaman Sea from the Thailand isthmus. Luckily, we were on the quiet Gulf of Thailand side of the isthmus, so we weren't in danger of another tsunami, like what happened in Thailand after the 2004 Indian ocean earthquake.

Most curse words seem to involve deities and sexual/excretion functions. I used to redirect high school student cursing tendencies to learning new vocabulary; they could only curse if they used such words as, "Oh, excrement," "that's just copulation great," or "male bovine feces!" I had Thai children saying "You water buffalo!" in English, instead of the Thai curse word that means the same thing, etc.

Hi, Wendy, and welcome to the website I'm sure you'll meet some great people here. By the way, this website has a bit of a learning curve. For members who are open to dating, certain thumbnails and profiles have a heart symbol on them with a percentage. This identifies which members are open to dating, and the percent shows approximately how compatible others are with them. You can improve your website score in general by answering all the profile questions and writing a bio, which also earns website points, and helps other members get to know you. Commenting on posts and writing your own posts earns more points. At level two you can private message people, and at level eight you get an agnostic T-shirt. If you want to date, the website uses profile algorithms to find member matches, so the more details one includes, the better the match. Many people prefer to see a written profile talking about interests, hobbies, and backgrounds that can be quickly perused to find others who are compatible with them. In case you didn't know yet, to find members near you, click on the "Browse" button at the top of the page, then on "Members," and enter your preferred search parameters. Click on the "Discuss" button, then "Nearby" to find members near you also. Or click on the "About" button at the top left of the page to find links to FAQ or the website tutorial. Points are now being given to level 3+ members who chat. You can see chat rooms on the group main page or at https://agnostic.com/groups/rooms.

Unbelievably, I used to argue with Trump trolls and even insult them back. I guess I needed to vent some of my frustration after the 2016 election. Eventually, I began thinking of them as mindless ants, churning around and attacking anything they perceive as different, so their opinions no longer meant anything to me. I recently found out that THREE of my college educated, professional siblings are Trumpites, and act just like all the other alt-right wing nuts if I say anything about what Trump is doing..it's all "fake news" - thank heavens Obama is gone, so now we have a "real" president," etc. So I dropped my siblings from my life, as I can't imagine hanging with people who think it's a good idea to take kids away from their parents and lock them into cages, to attack the rights of LGBTQ people and minorities, or to collude with Russia.

What's your approach?
birdingnut comments on Jul 30, 2018:
Since most men want to seduce most women asap, the interest of men isn't particularly flattering. Women are the ones who decide which suitor they want to reward with their attention. Or not. I don't know how to flirt, being both highly masculine-minded and demisexual (no sexual attraction to any gender or person except after an extended courtship of over a year) and can take sex or leave it. I just like men as dance and hiking partners and if something more gradually develops over time, then so be it. Nevertheless I have been constantly asked out most of my life, but mostly come up with excuses.
Why do many folks here put pictures of anything other than themselves in their profile?
birdingnut comments on Jul 30, 2018:
Why did you do it? Your photo should just be of your face..not a big crowd of people so nobody knows which person is you. This is a dating website and since men usually choose women by their photos, it seems counter productive to hide your looks. Women also want to see who they are talking to. Most don't want to waste time on some 300 lb unemployed loser who lives with his mother.

I'm so sorry for your loss! Einstein showed us that all matter is a form of energy, so since energy can neither be created nor destroyed, we have always existed and will always exist in some energy form. No reason to think energy souls don't exist, and quantum physics already proves that multiple dimensions exist. There could be reincarnation, for that matter, and there are many books of research on the subject where the details of memories of children ages 2-6 who recalled past lives were verified. "For us believing physicists, the distinction between past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion." -Einstein.

To the ladies... How do you feel when you ask out a guy you like and you get a rejection?
birdingnut comments on Jul 30, 2018:
Some highly feminine men like to be pursued and asked out, but most cis hetero men are hard-wired to be the predator. Sure, they'll feel flattered when women chase them, and most will take free sex, but their interest will likely soon move on to more elusive prey, who make them work to win her over. I'm even that way, and I'm only a partial transmale. If some woman who I'm attracted to starts pursing me aggressively, I usually beat a hasty retreat, and lose interest..permanently. By the way, if screaming feminists rush in to troll me, I'll just block them.

Do "strong and independent women, not need a man"?
birdingnut comments on Jul 30, 2018:
There's a "block" button on people's profiles if someone is trolling you. This blocks them from being able to see your posts or you to see theirs. Many women with high levels of male traits feel hostility toward men, and since people with high IQs tend to be androgynous and atheists are high IQ, many women on this website are strong in male traits. No need to date them or even listen to them if you don't want to..just block them. I'm almost a worst-case scenario of those types, since I'm highly masculine in traits, even slightly more male-minded than female, yet I also would love to meet someone my age who is compatible with me, to go ballroom dancing and hiking with. Many men like the idea of a strong, independent woman who won't be needy and clingy and who loves to do outdoor things, but most prefer someone more domestic.

birdingnut comments on Jul 30, 2018:
I look so much like Jackie Kennedy Onassis that people thought I was an actor playing her when I was an extra at the 2009 Secretariat movie shoot at Churchill Down in Louisville, KY. People began mobbing me on the racetrack grounds, trying to get my autograph and rushing up to pose next to me for group selfies. Nobody listened to my protests and I finally realized that it didn't matter..all they wanted was Facebook bragging rights, so I finally played along! It also happened, when, on a dare, I designed a slinky J-Lo type ballroom dance gown in 2003 and wore it to a dance in Lexington, KY. While I was in the ladies' room at the dance, a mob of women caught sight of me and began yelling that I was some pop star who was going incognito, and they also didn't listen to my protests. When they began mobbing me, demanding my autograph, I did what they asked.

I'm 29, living in Texas where most, if not all of my peers have had children.
birdingnut comments on Jul 29, 2018:
Having children takes over your life..all your time, energy, money, attention, etc., not to mention making you dependent on others while you're giving birth, recovering, and even when the babies are still young, depending on your circumstances. You would have to have excellent health care benefits, or have the babies at home, which is riskier. It's always better to be surrounded by extended family to help out, but most people in the the US are scattered from their relatives, and most are already working full time. Many women are hard-wired to long for procreation, willing to go to extraordinary lengths to get pregnant. Others have more masculine traits and don't want chidlren. I was one of them, but had two children anyway. Of course, my ex took off to chase a younger woman, leaving me to raise them, so being married isn't always the answer.

Are you sure you know how to operate the website? It has a bit of a learning curve. For members who are open to dating, you will see that certain thumbnails and profiles have a heart symbol on them with a percentage. This identifies which members are open to dating, and the percent shows approximately how compatible you are with them. If you click the heart symbol on the top of their profile, you can see how it is determined. You can improve your score in general by answering all the profile questions and writing a bio, which also earns you website points. Commenting on posts and writing your own earns more points. At level two you can private message people, and at level eight you get an agnostic T-shirt. The website uses profile algorithms to find member matches, so the more details one includes, the better the match. Many people prefer to see a written profile talking about interests, hobbies, and backgrounds that can be quickly perused to find compatible partners.

You may have known her in a past life. Researchers (who fact check details of stories told by children ages 2-6 who remember past lives) write that many report that groups of souls tend to reincarnate together in various configurations, and can somewhat recognize each other while in a particular lifetime. I, also, and my younger sister, were born remembering a past life. I eventually remembered many of them, and even googled a few of the more traumatic events I recalled, finding the details I remembered to be accurate. If anyone rushes in to troll me, I'll just block you. You can google books of research done on reincarnation, and I own about a dozen of them on Kindle.

Dunno. I met my last relationship, of nine years, on Match.com, but that was in 2002. It's the way many couples meet these days, since most currently single people are now older, so no longer hang at bars after work trying to pick up one night stands, or go to clubs.

birdingnut comments on Jul 28, 2018:
Many atheist scientists and philosophers are nerds and awkward around women, so less likely to be groping them. Perhaps Krauss' popularity made more sci-fi fan girls available to him than others of his ilk. But, yeah..with over 50 allegations of sexual misconduct over many years, I'd say Krauss is VERY guilty.

The female price of male pleasure
birdingnut comments on Jul 28, 2018:
I love this quote from the article..SO true. "Have you looked at how women are 'supposed' to present themselves as sexually attractive? High heels? Trainers? Spanx? These are things designed to wrench bodies. Men can be appealing in comfy clothes. They walk in shoes that don't shorten their Achilles tendons. They don't need to get the hair ripped off their genitals or take needles to the face to be perceived as "conventionally" attractive. They can — just as women can — opt out of all this, but the baseline expectations are simply different, and it's ludicrous to pretend they aren't. The old implied social bargain between women and men (which Andrew Sullivan calls "natural") is that one side will endure a great deal of discomfort and pain for the other's pleasure and delight."

I still pray "in Jesus' name" at times and get an answer, same as I just wish for something without praying and get an answer..it's all just me anyway, so it doesn't matter what I say.

Seems to be about the same as always. I routinely block people who are rude, lewd, or crude, and anyone trolling either me or some other woman. Before I started blocking them, men here trolled as much as the alt-right on Facebook. I also block men (to remove them from dating consideration) who say they like to do "hook ups" or are "polyamorous," men who say they hunt, fish, play golf, love red meat, or brag how they never exercise. So, because I cull trolls constantly, most of the people I see are cheerful and upbeat.
