Don't declare your love, make him little love gifts, or in general act clingy or needy.

That's a passive aggressive thing to say to you, and unkind.
When people are rude or talking on subjects you prefer to avoid, just ignore them. Don't look at them, seem bored and distracted and leave the room, or go home as though you remembered something you had to do.
If you only look at people and pay attention them when they are behaving themselves, it quickly trains them to be kind and friendly to you.
This technique works quickly if you are consistent. Don't give anyone being nosy or religious any attention at all, and it takes away their motivation to harass you.

I was up at 4:30 AM as usual, had cho-wa tea and spicy Thai sardines for breakfast.
Afterward, went galloping, climbed five flights of stairs, did 10 pull-ups in my room. Had four big shrimp crisps, baked here in Songkhla.
Walked ten blocks to buy a bit of cooked squash, corn, and lettuce for lunch from a sidewalk vendor.
Walked ten more blocks to buy a soft serve ice cream cone at the Songkhla Tesco-Lotus mall.
Started another Kindle book I'd not read for a while.
Had lunch: a roll of sticky rice roasted with crushed berries in the center, and the squash and corn. Had a two more shrimp crisps. Plenty of ice water.

Hmm..skip anything with coffee in it, or chocolate, avoid processed food for dinner, take a long walk at sunset, turn off your media devices by 10 PM,
But if push comes to shove, get dressed for bed, then take a tiny pinch of catnip powder. It will knock you out FAST, so be ready. Also set your alarm for extra loud because it's hard to wake up afterward.
People in eastern KY give fresh catnip to teething babies to calm them down.

I think kids are going to be who they are, no matter what you think they should be. Usually they rebel and go the opposite direction of their parents, but at least the grandchildren will rebel against THEM and like to run around with the grandparents.
