My favorite book is the next good one I've not read yet! But if you're looking for ideas, Winterdance, about a man determined to train his dog sled team to run the Iditarod, is so funny you'll probably cause a scene laughing, so be warned I only want to read books on Kindle; I don't do paper any more. No more shelf storage problems, dust puffing into my eyes when I turn the pages. I just read my tablet contentedly wherever I am.

birdingnut comments on May 6, 2018:
LOL! I prefer the Sumerian text version of the Noah story, written 2000 years before the Bible. They claimed to have genetically engineered humans by mingling their DNA with that of human apes, but only made males who were stupid enough to work in the gold mines without complaint. The Sumerians needed the gold to fix the atmosphere on their home planet, for some reason, and their own people wouldn't do it. They also genetically engineered domestic animals and plants, in the garden of Aiden. But two of the genetic engineers felt sorry for the poor male slaves and secretly engineered a female. The first one, Lilith, had too much of their royal Draco DNA, so was too violent and scornful of the males. They made a second try, Eve, who was more compliant, but was also aware they were enslaved, and showed the men how to rebel. The humans began breeding, and women being born were so beautiful that Anu eventually saw that his own Sumerian people were breeding with the human females, to his horror. When the Sumerian home planet was about to make a near pass to earth, the leader, Anu, told his people the ice shelf in the Antarctic would break off and flood a third of the earth, so they were to withdraw in their space ships until the flood subsided, leaving the humans to die in the mines, to punish them for breeding with his people. But two of the genetic engineers who had made the humans and animals, one of whom was named "The Serpent" for his wisdom, showed their favorite, Noah, how to make a submarine, and put the DNA of all the animals aboard, so they could engineer the animals again after the flood. I think this version makes more sense. The pictures engraved on the stone Babylonian walls tell the story, with illustrations of Sumerian space ships, labs, test tubes, and showing their scientists working on making humans. It's very detailed and realistic. Hi, Tango, and welcome to the website! Nice rabbits. You can gain points and help people get to know you better if you write your profile and answer all the profile questions, since that's the place many women look first when they see a new member. Then you make comments and write your own posts to gain more points, and when you reach level two, you can private message people.

Receiving profiles with low compatibility percentages?
birdingnut comments on May 5, 2018:
I've never tried to use it, since I've not seen anyone on this website even close to being compatible with my preferred activities and age, while being close enough to actually meet someday. I plan to use the new Facebook dating application being rolled out..it assists local members in meeting other like-minded people at actual local events of mutual interest. That makes more sense than women fielding men from thousands of miles away, most of whom only want sex, and likely care little about who the women are, as people.

If your car is newer than 1966, this little device can be plugged into your dash to diagnose what's wrong with your car..it's what mechanic shops use. Once you know, you can buy the parts and fix the car yourself, ask someone to help you install the parts, or you can take the car to a generic mechanic and tell them exactly what to fix. birdingnut comments on May 5, 2018:
I think any friendly, casual, sincere comment can start a conversation. Canned lines tend to sound phony and signal the woman that the guy is a player, only after sex. Of course, most cis, hetero men really are only interested in women for sex, but most women prefer to feel special and liked for who she is, as a person.

Light-hearted competition that rewards EVERYONE who does a good job with EXTRA benefits, while having plenty of perks at the job for everyone equally, seems best. Sermons from Hollywood A-listers will never deserve an audience again - UnHerd
birdingnut comments on May 5, 2018:
It is reprehensible, but it's easy to be a Monday morning quarterback. When a frightened young actress is sexually assaulted by a powerful Hollywood man, she knows her career is over if she says anything. She'd be denounced, called a liar and could never work again. The only reason people listened to the women in the "Me,too" movement was because so many of them spoke up at the same time. The same thing happened with the women being raped by Bill Cosby..the first women who dared speak up were mocked.
To agnostic, why are you an agnostic?
birdingnut comments on May 4, 2018:
I suppose because I do believe in "Source energy," or our "Higher selves." Since all energy is connected and we are part of the universe's energy, there is a often a feeling of something greater than ourselves, especially when we are out in nature. It's a feeling of awe, peacefulness, of being loved absolutely. But it is really just ourselves, mingled with the consciousness of everyone and everything else, who are also part of our energy, etc.

birdingnut comments on May 4, 2018:
We are here because we want to be here. Our purpose is to experience and learn new things and be happy. If we are made of the same energy as the universe, and everyone and everything is connected, then, in a way, we are our own gods, and our purpose is what we choose it to be.
Soul Mates...Twin Flames. A real deal?
birdingnut comments on May 4, 2018:
The original meaning of soul mate was when two people reincarnated from one soul, sort of a split soul. But in the spirit of the current meaning, I did date someone for a number of months who was a sort of soul mate. We knew the same things, had the same hobbies, had read the same books..it was like we were two people who had split, like in the old meaning. Like me, he was a photographer, an artist, avid reader, lover of museums, liked horses, highly advanced dancer, expert at love-making. He introduced me to the idea of mild S&M, fantasy play and costumes, even though he was incapacitated in some ways by diabetes, so it was mostly pretend. He told me that after his mother left his family, he'd dedicated his life to learning to dance and be good at giving pleasure to women so he'd never be alone again. No danger of that! I fell in love with him on our first date-a night of ballroom and jitterbug dancing..he literally swept me off my feet. I felt like I was floating over the dance floor. He was an intuitive dancer, who improvised to the music instead of rigidly following any particular genre protocol. I thought I was in heaven. He noticed my interest in birds on our first date, and from then on noticed and learned about the different species, so that he was soon, like me, calling them out when we were outdoors. Sadly, even though he was my age, he still had a middle school son, from a second marriage, that lived in town so he said he'd never travel overseas until his son was out of college, so I broke up with him and began dating my last "ex," the airline pilot.
I was just thinking about some good movies that might make Christians cringe.

Are there any Ex-Evangelicals (aka Exvangelical) here?
birdingnut comments on May 4, 2018:
I was born into a United Methodist missionary family, in Haiti. It was OK, since they were kind, liberal, and didn't push religion on anyone. Instead, because our mission was also United Methodist, they helped the Haitians, built a clinic and radio station, were kind and helpful to all, turned it all over the Haitians when they left the mission. Besides, I saw supernatural stuff every day..people being healed, raised from the dead, miracles happening, but mostly from the local Christian Haitians, who had a translated New Testament and took what it said literally; when Jesus said we could do what he did, people just shrugged and did it. It was all taken for granted by the Haitian, who were used to supernatural happenings in voodoo, even though the American missionaries ignored the supernatural parts of the Bible, and went to doctors when sick. Many of the poor Haitians didn't have that option, so did what the Bible said, and it worked. I now realize that it will work for anyone, and has nothing to do with god or religion..it's just a fact that we are helping create our own realities and can manipulate energy, since we are made of energy. “I regard consciousness as fundamental and matter as derivative from consciousness." – Max Planck, theoretical physicist who originated quantum theory, 1918 Nobel Prize in Physics

Yup. Me 2. I'm already thinking about moving on from this forum since it's clear nobody lives near me or near where I plan to move. But I think the new Facebook dating platform seems promising, since it encourages participants near you to meet at actual local events which you also enjoy, which sounds perfect for me! I could maybe find a fellow birding enthusiast or hiker, for instance, instead of fielding a bunch of men who live thousands of miles away, and just want sex, and I don't do casual sex.
Some advice to recently divorced people, especially if you were married for over a decade.
birdingnut comments on May 4, 2018:
I read a study that showed that if women don't remarry within three years they often never do. Once women get a taste of freedom, and don't have to cater to a man anymore, they begin to wonder why they'd ever put up with it to begin with. It sure happened with me. Now I can't even imagine what I was thinking before..how did I do that? I still sort of want someone for a dance and hiking partner, but the whole adjusting to a man thing seems ridiculously difficult now.
If you could be reincarnated, what would you do differently?
birdingnut comments on May 4, 2018:
You are assuming that people being reincarnated actually remember their past lives when they are born, and deliberately choose which things to alter. In reality, reincarnation researchers usually only can interview children who remember a past life when they are between the ages of 2-6, before the past life memories fade. I was born remembering the in-between time before reincarnating here, and my sister was born remembering her last past life as a boy, which she talked about when she was 4-6 years old, but we teased her into silence, thinking she was being silly. She says she still remembers it, and I have since recalled many past lives, including some details I've verified by googling several incidents I remembered. But the past lives are so different from my current one, no lessons to be learned at all. In all my past lives I've looked at, I came to a very bad end. In the lifetime closest to this date that I remembered, I was gunned down, with my Jewish family-my father, grandfather, sister, and older brother- in Belgium, as we were fleeing across the fields for the river at night. It was just before WW ll, and we were trying to reach the boat to escape out of the country, with the rest of the Belgian Jews. When I googled the incident, I saw that we had no chance anyway, as our government had already sold us out to the Germans, and all the people who did reach the boat were gunned down anyway when the boat reached the harbor.
Why are atheists so certain there is not some sort of intelligent design?
birdingnut comments on May 4, 2018:

birdingnut comments on May 2, 2018:
No need for a support group...you're having trouble reading because you are using the left hemisphere of your brain, as most children in public school are taught to do. But dyslexics have difficulty with this, because of weak communication between the two hemispheres of the brain. The left side of brain is the side that "talks." It reads by speaking the words internally, often moving the lips. It is a slow process, and takes so long the mind wanders so that what you already read is easily forgotten. Right side of the brain has no "speech," but has photographic memory, responds to color, rhyme and music. When you "speed read" you use the right brain hemisphere, so there's no need to mumble the words to yourself, slowing you down and boring you so that your naturally lightning-fast mind has time to wander. You can take in an entire page at one glance, and have photographic memory of the page, using the right side of the brain. It's a new skill though, so you have to be patient with your left brain hemisphere side, which usually feels panicked when you ignore that side and use the right hemisphere to read, for the first few times. How I teach students is to tell them to get a strip of paper or a color marker of a bright neon orange, and an easy book they've read before, so there's no struggle to comprehend new material, distracting them. Hold the strip under the first line of the book, then, keeping your eyes just above the strip of paper, without trying to read, just drag the colored paper strip down the page to the bottom. If you feel yourself starting to "read" by moving your lips, speed it up a little, to lose the "left side," since it can't read faster than speech. Keep doing the same page, speeding up the dragging the paper strip down the page each time, until you feel something "click," similar to when you suddenly "see" a three-dimensional picture for the first, after only seeing a confusing bunch of colors on the 3-D poster. That is your brain switching to the right side of the brain to read. If it doesn't happen after a number of tries, you might have to choose another book that you actually like, as I've seen students' (right brain hemispheres) balk at reading boring books. When it happens, and you feel yourself make the switch, you'll find that you can recall the entire page. As soon as you make this leap, stop and let your startled brain rest a bit. After all, that side of your brain has never read before. If you feel a panicked voice in the back of your head, just reassure your "left side" that you'll let him read in a while. After time has passed, maybe even a day, try again, and go for longer. Entire classes of students at school will suddenly start speed-reading after about ten minutes, and usually ...
Saying your spiritual is the new age way to say you’re religious.

I'm spiritual, but I'm certainly not religious. I don't do candles, ceremonies, incense, etc. I just meditate, connect with the universe, commune with nature, etc.

There really are people born with psychic powers, but it's inborn and never used to show off or prove anything. In fact, we all are. In the US, anything not considered "rational" is suppressed and scorned, so not used, but in other countries people frequently use ESP and other powers to communicate. They do in the US also, but don't realize they're doing it, as when horse riders communicate with their mounts mentally. My sister, mom, and I were born strongly psychic and when my mom wanted me to come downstairs to help her, she'd just contact me mentally. In Haiti we MKs (missionary kids) used esp to coordinate our beach trips since we didn't have phones. I seldom used a bridle or saddle with horses and all of them obeyed my mental commands, even when I was driving them in a horse cart. They could change gaits, pull over, or go any direction I thought of, even as I was thinking it. I'm a nonbinary (I don't strongly identify with either gender) androgyne ( I have mixed gender traits), and in my Cherokee tribe I would have been trained as a "two-spirit" shaman, and in fact my daughter is one in her tribal group. As a "two-spirit" androgyne she participates in both men's and women's ceremonies. By the way, don't bother trolling me, I'll just block you.
Probably gonna get cussed out

Yeah, I don't get why people on this forum don't post their photos, or if they do, they cover their faces, or stand with other people so you don't know which one they are in the photo. This is common on Facebook as well, but my complaints have been ignored. Worse, they post photos of their pets or a grandbaby, not their own photo. I suppose they hate how they look, but I don't see how deceiving people about your appearance is helpful if you intend to actually meet them, if you, hopefully, have a date.
Lost in Space on Netflix.
birdingnut comments on May 2, 2018:
One show I give a big A+, if you have a strong stomach and nerves of steel, and don't mind a LOT of casual profanity, sex and full body nudity, is the British TV sci-fi comedy-drama series on Netflix, Misfits. The acting is TOP notch, beyond good. Way beyond. The writing is sharp, innovative, and the plots so outrageously over the top I quiver in pure joy over titles of episodes..like, "the attack of the white rabbit," and "zombie cheerleaders," etc. It's about five juvenile offenders sentenced to work in a community service program, where they obtain supernatural powers after a strange electrical storm. The storm gives many random people besides the kids sudden strange powers, which gives puts them into bizarre situations. Not only do they get these superhuman powers, but there is a guy who has the power to take powers from people, which he does for money, and exchange them for other, or better powers. The kids keep finishing their sentences at the community service center, but more young people with weird powers are sentenced to work there also. Everyone is so casual and off-hand about horrific events; dark humor .."I'm sorry-we had to kill another probation officer." "Right. I'll get the shovel."

I tried several times to watch it, shuddered in horror, then tried again, thinking it couldn't have been THAT bad..after all, the premise showed promise, but even after several gos at it, I gave up, as my gag reflex was too strong. I still think it's a great idea-just needs better writing, casting, etc. Or at least a rewrite. The CGI is good quality. I really wanted the show to be good.

Don't know much about fresh water fish.
birdingnut comments on May 1, 2018:
Sadly, the most delicious fish I ever ate was a rainbow trout pulled right out of the mountain stream and popped right into the frying pan. I wish I didn't eat fish at all, but I seem to need the Omega-3 oil.

Ear infection.
birdingnut comments on May 1, 2018:
I used to get frequent ear infections before I stopped eating white flour, red meat, refined sugar, and most processed food. But if you don't want to improve your diet, eat a section of raw garlic just before bedtime. Also, red pepper and ginger help. Antibiotics are bad for you..they kill your "good" bacteria and force negative evolution on the bad ones, since only the drug resistant bacteria survives.
Just finished writing my first book. Can’t wait for the next step.

Is it on Amazon Kindle yet? What is the subject/genre? I love new indie books, but only if they are engaging and well-written. Some of the worst, most poorly written books I've read are self-published, but then someone like Misha Burnett comes along with the Catskinner series and I'm in awe! https://www.amazon.com/Catskinners-Book-Lost-Doors-ebook/dp/B008MPNBNS

Yeah, realizing it's all a myth is quite a relief. I realized it after reading the Sumerian texts, which tell almost identical stories the Bibles tells, but was written 2000 years before the Bible, and is written from the viewpoint of aliens who say they genetically engineered humans by combining their DNA with that of human apes, to make workers for the gold mines.

Ok, my wife and I are separated but not divorced yet.
birdingnut comments on May 1, 2018:
Hmm..that's a bad situation. I can only offer the advice in the book "The Rules"; detach yourself completely immediately. Don't contact her in ANY way, for any reason, and if she contacts YOU, don't reply for at least a day, each time. Seem too busy and happy with your new life to even notice her. When you do talk to her, seem distracted and leave as soon as possible. She'll wonder if you're meeting a new woman. Make sure you actually are meeting up with other people, going out with them, etc.. Delete the ex immediately from all social media, join community groups that do activites you're interested in. Travel. Do outdoor hobbies you like that your wife might not have approved, such as rock climbing and kayaking. You are sure to meet women who are fellow enthusiasts. Learn to dance..there's always a man shortage at ballroom dance classes and even the homeliest men are besieged by women at dances, if they learn to dance well. Learn to do foot massages, and when word gets out, women will line up around the block!
