What is the worst thing anyone has said to your face ?
birdingnut comments on Mar 2, 2018:
From a religious sister-in-law in 1980, after my newborn son's lungs collapsed and he had to go into the hospital: "God must trust you a lot; allowing your son to suffer to make you stronger."

Religious role of parental opposition to their transgendered children
birdingnut comments on Mar 1, 2018:
That is so tragic! My United Methodist missionary parents were liberal, and treated my aunt and her probably transmale lover as they would anyone else, so I was lucky. I once asked her if my grandmother ever reacted to my aunt being "gay" and living with a transmale and she said that her mom always invited both of them for family holiday meals, knowing that my aunt wouldn't come without him/her. I now realize I'm partially transmale myself, and possibly my daughter as well, although both of us live as androgynous females.
Best way to free friends from religious oppression?
birdingnut comments on Mar 1, 2018:
I try to avoid arguing with the alt-right and most Christians, although I sometimes get annoyed on the MK (missionary kid) Facebook page and make a snide remark debunking the Bible if I'm attacked. But there are so many former Christians on this website, something must have worked. In my case, it was observation of Christian friends' racist and rejecting behavior, reading the Bible in the original Greek and Hebrew, and reading the Sumerian texts, which predate the Bible by 2000 years but are obviously the source of the Bible stories.

Any fellow bikers on this site?
birdingnut comments on Mar 1, 2018:
Only in the the US, and some other western countries, do people think that riding a motorcycle is a badge of macho-hood. Most people in Thailand, from kids to grandmothers, use motorbikes like family cars, hauling groceries, even adding side cars and canopies to make vendor carts, etc., except that the motors are almost silent, there is a long seat to fit extra riders, and many of them have flat floors where you can pile produce. Occasionally Thai enamored with the mega-noisy, monster US road motorbikes will roar past, almost deafening people and often inspiring me to curse them roundly in French and/or Creole. These road bikes are too heavy and awkward to handle well in close traffic, not designed for extra passengers, polluting, gas guzzling. I only filled my Honda Icon every week or so, and it cost me $1.20 to fill the tank. Pics: 1.me driving my Honda Icon in Songkhla, Thailand 2.crowd of Thai at U-turn a block from my place in Songkhla, showing tangle of overhead power lines, common there.
Why is dryer lint always the same dull gray color?
birdingnut comments on Mar 1, 2018:
Because the blend of all those colors makes a muddy gray color, much the same color as water after rinsing paint brushes. If you like to camp, you can mix some lint with petroleum jelly, seal it in a plastic baggie, and use it to start a fire with only one match.

birdingnut comments on Mar 1, 2018:
But the masses are being controlled in many more ways than religion..through clever marketing practices and media control. People blindly eat GMO chemical foods that cause cancer, drink sodas, which are full of dangerous chemicals and sugar, watch mindless TV programs, take dangerous synthetic prescription drugs instead of leading a healthy lifestyle, drive gas guzzling cars, etc.

LOL! Many of my old high school mates are overweight, out of shape, and look unhealthy. They usually ask me if I've found the fountain of youth since I "look just the same" as I did in high school. But those were just comments on my photos, and I am photogenic. I also switched to not eating red meat or white flour, when I was 22 yrs old Still, at 65 yrs old, I imagine if they saw me in person, they'd change their minds, LOL! I do weigh the same as I did in high school, however, as well as doing some of the same things..body surfing the waves, climbing trees and mountains, riding a motorbike, running at every excuse, .

1.I use natural means of healing, preventative measures instead of medical intervention wherever possible. 2.I use green solutions for problems..I clean the bathroom with white vinegar, for instance. 3.I move to other countries to take photos of birds 4.I see myself as no gender, both genders, and a blend of genders. I really don't care which pronoun people use for me, but when I haven't been taking much derris scandens (Thai herb that blends the two gender sides) and I'm in my male mode, I have a different name. 5.I celebrate holidays by going on bird photography trips instead of gorging on food. 6.I use a motorbike as a car-even load it up with produce when shopping. 7.I haven't celebrated any American holidays since I moved to Thailand in 2010..instead I enjoy the Thai festivals, like the country-wide water fight on the hottest day of the year-the Thai New Year, on April 14. The photo was taken last year by Samila Beach, Songkhla, Thailand

When my daughter moved to Lexington, then moved into a tiny apartment with her boyfriend, she left her fussy pet snake and white African dwarf frog with my ex and me. We ended up having to thaw baby mice to feed the snake, and I even raised earthworms in a large bucket over the winter to make sure the white frog had fresh food every day. She eventually took the snake back, and sold it to someone else, but the frog stayed on, and lived for 15 years!
What are some double standards that bother you?
birdingnut comments on Mar 1, 2018:
The assumption that men are better than women at anything except muscular strength. People often take even the most idiotic ideas of men seriously, while ignoring more intelligent women who don't feel motivated to fight for attention. I see this constantly, even while watching the British SkyNews news channel on TV. They have this show where several people sit around a table and make comments on newspaper headlines. There's almost always some moronic man who "mansplains," talks over the ladies, interrupts, acts superior, and in general makes me want to change channels. There's a highly intelligent black woman who keeps trying to talk, but she's so polite, besides already being British, that the men seldom let her speak for long before talking over her, drowning her out, though the camera valiantly lingers on her face and I can see her lips moving.

By the way, this is also how to get a male love interest to disrespect you also..being submissive, fanatically loyal, and forgiving disrespect, allowing him walk all over you and increase dangerous behaviors. Normal cis females with high percentages of female traits instinctively know how to manage male love interests..by withdrawing attention the instant he crosses them. First, she becomes distracted, too busy, then if he continues, she's sorry but she has other plans, then she leaves, or kicks him out if he doesnt change his ways.

Anxiety
birdingnut comments on Mar 1, 2018:
I've read that CBD oil relieves anxiety and elevates the mood, while also being legal most places. Also, cannabis oil, which is stronger, but small amounts taken often work well. Early morning outdoor walks in the sun to reset the thyroid, and if you let your mind drift it's said to be as effective as meditation, being out in nature, having a loving pet, eating fish, taking St. Johns' Wort, derris scandens, 5-htp, magnesium a few drops of iodine in water, etc. all have calming effects also.

My Thai ESL teacher agency once hired a French Canadian woman who stank so badly, it took hours for the air to clear after she left, and the students complained bitterly. My Thai boss politely asked her to bathe and use deoderant, and she flew into a rage and began screaming at her for "insulting" her. The bewildered boss asked me afterward what she'd done wrong and I told her that many French only bathe a few times a week, suggesting she alter her foreign teacher ads to include "good personal hygiene" as a qualifying factor.

Why does being nice to rude people make the situation worse?
birdingnut comments on Feb 28, 2018:
It's not the other people; you have to think well of yourself, be calm, have a bold, direct gaze, give off signals of high self esteem. If you are cringing, apologetic, act submissive, don't speak up for yourself, etc., both people and animals will walk all over you. Always. I actually got so tired of how nice the Buddhist Thai are here in Thailand that it felt good to travel in Malaysia where people can be so rude that vendors will yell at you for bothering them to buy something. It only tickles me, making me miss New York City. My favorite US T-shirt was one I bought in Central Park..the writing on the front said, "Fuck you, you fucking fuck!"

birdingnut comments on Feb 28, 2018:
I keep thinking I should have gotten degrees in almost anything other than English literature, but sadly, that's what I was mainly interested in, and only did it because getting the degrees by studying good literature seemed like a racket! And I seem born to teach, edit manuscripts, and discuss literature stuff. I even seem to be a natural ESL teacher. Too bad it pays less in the US than working at a fast food place. Here in Thailand, at least, I can live well doing it because of the low cost of living.
Social classes
birdingnut comments on Feb 28, 2018:
My mom comes from an upper class old Kentucky family and both my parents were intellectuals, so that's how I was raised. My dad was a TV engineer and my mom a radio station manager, but they went to the Haiti mission field to help build a radio station, and I grew up there, speaking three languages, hanging with both local Haitians of African descent and wealthy Europeans. So my overall social class is mid to upper class, and that's how my siblings live, but I tend to live like a nerdy guy..more interested in my obsessions, travel, inventions, writing, bird photography to be a real member of this class, although I taught at two universities.
Is there any relationship between salary and overall life satisfaction?
birdingnut comments on Feb 28, 2018:
Yup. Deaton and Kahneman did a study that found that "everyday contentment" increases up to $75,000, but then starts to level off after that. "Perhaps $75,000 is a threshold beyond which further increases in income no longer improve individuals' ability to do what matters most to their emotional well-being, such as spending time with people they like, avoiding pain and disease, and enjoying leisure," the authors write. Watch and learn from YouTube dance instruction videos, attend free ballroom group dances that also teach jitterbug, or if you are talking about tap dance jazz classes, or exhibition jazz dancing, you will have to pay more for actual classes. I became an expert dancer in many genres when I was in my 40-late 50s, but after I moved to Thailand in 2010, I have only danced a few times. Pic is of me and me ex swing dancing on the beach, Sand Key Island, FL (I designed and made the ballroom gown).
How did I get put in the friend zone ?
birdingnut comments on Feb 28, 2018:
Back off! Date someone else, and if she changes her mind, she'll let you know. To me, the ONLY fun of a new relationship if the courting stage..dating, hikes, movies, walks under the stars, snuggling to watch movies while you give each other foot rubs, etc. Once the man starts demanding more, I'm already edging toward the exit. No, I don't want to have sex with you. Ew. Who knows what you've done with whom, and what STDs you secretly carry. And I don't want to commit to you either. Ew. Who knows how control freak you might become, demanding to know where I am every minute and trying to push my friends away. If men could be cool about it, though, I might hang with them long enough to develop feelings for them, as long as they continue being playful, fun, upbeat, and don't act NEEDY.

Are there any widows on here?
birdingnut comments on Feb 28, 2018:
Hi! This is a new website, so might have limited choices in your preferred type and location of women. And you're right..about wanting to date widows only. I don't date widowed men for a common reason..nobody wants to be the "replacement" love interest and plug into the man's life to take over the deceased wife's duties. Most women want a man who dates them because they find the woman special, amazing, and they want only to be with her..no referring back to the lost spouse.
I'm really bad at introductions, so I'll keep this short and sweet! Hello all, it's so wonderful ...

I've watched and rewatched the series numerous times and I still love it.
There is more to love than gender and attraction.
birdingnut comments on Feb 28, 2018:
Not true. Women are apparently attracted by bold confidence, humor, and competence. It doesn't hurt to be fit and energetic, but dunno. I'm a 65 year old female bodied person, yet even being partially transmale, I constantly attract straight women. They often get crushes on me, then try to get revenge on me when I don't reciprocate (I'm demisexual, so can't be attracted sexually to anyone until after a year of close association). Because I'm female, and teach, I don't have anything to offer women in the way of status or money, and it's not because of my nationality since both European and American have done this also...even before I realized I'm partially transmale. I'm assuming it's my bold, confident manner that attracted them, not my rocking male body, handsome face, and white male status ..so that means anyone can do it. If you are acting lovestruck and mooning around, or stalking women you will only scare them. Be bold, but NEVER needy. I didn't flirt at all, but I did listen to what women had to say, remembered, and referred to it later, complimented them on real things, indicating that I saw them as valuable people, but that might not be the reason, since I've had European women flip over me after just hanging briefly with me.
Do you really think I can find love here?
birdingnut comments on Feb 28, 2018:
Most women want to date someone of their own ethnic and cultural background, and economic level. Nobody wants to date someone who could be wanting a green card, to score some money, or to increase their social status by dating a white woman. Of course, these types of men try to use the "racism" card to guilt some poor girl into dating them. I have to constantly block such men on Facebook and on any other dating website I've tried. If you are genuinely wanting to date someone, try someone from your own country and background.

birdingnut comments on Feb 28, 2018:
Everyone has to grow older, but nobody has to be mature! I'm 65 yrs old, but far too immature for most people..my idea of fun is wading in swamps, climbing cliffs, and hiking through jungles in pursuit of candid wildlife and bird photos. I ride a motorbike, have almost no responsibilities, and have friends of many religions, ethnicities, gender orientations, gender identities-kind of like college kids do.

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson claims this, Elon Musk says that the chance is "one in billions" that we inhabit the one true world. However, researchers at Oxford and Hebrew University now claim the universe is far too complex to simulate, because of thermal Hall conductance, or gravitational anomaly. The quantities involved in the simulation would acquire a negative sign, with an infinite number of possibilities, so a simulation can't possibly consider them all. Furthermore, simulating just a few hundred electrons would require a computer with a memory made of more atoms than are in the universe. https://newatlas.com/gravitational-anomaly-prove-universe-not-simulation/51588/

Just living in Thailand, I'm walking everywhere to buy fresh food daily, get crushed ice in the evening to chill my boiled egg, walking to the main road to catch a songtheaw (pickup truck bus), walking around downtown to go shopping for certain items not found near me. What are 5 useless facts about you?
birdingnut comments on Feb 28, 2018:
1.I LOVE monthong durian, better than any other food, despite its reputation as a stinky fruit. 2.I can walk most places in my neighborhood any time of day or night without one peep out of the local dogs, since they know me, some from puppyhood. 3.I keep running into Thai people on songtheaw buses, downtown, and in various places who I taught when they were younger. They are the ones who "wai" me, and call me "Teacher." 4.If I so much as start to raise the camera, most of the local birds will dive behind a branch. But when I don't carry a camera, they will sometimes fly up almost to my nose, even fly alongside me for blocks. 5.I can make a weird clicking noise inside my mouth I learned to do in Haiti, that mimics the sound house geckos make here, but Thai kids can't imitate me. 6.I can recognize most Thai birds from the slightest glimpse, even from a distance, know their various sounds and calls, recognize their flight patterns from a distance, so I'm instantly alert if an unknown bird makes even the briefest appearance, or sings.
Question for the ladies, does true love have age constraints?
birdingnut comments on Feb 27, 2018:
Yes, for most people. I read an annoying study that showed that women live the longest when their male partner is slightly older than she is, but women's lives are shortened by living with younger men. Something to do with aging DNA, since insects whose eggs are fertilized with sperm DNA taken from ancestral insects many generations back, quickly die. But the opposite is true for men..they live the longest with women much younger than they are. I've noticed, however, that women with high percentages of male traits often choose younger men and don't seem to come to harm.

Where does religion come from?
birdingnut comments on Feb 27, 2018:
If one is to believe the Sumerian texts, written 2000 years before the Bible, humans were genetically engineered by the Sumerian aliens, who combined their DNA with that of human apes to make people suitable to work in their gold mines. Then they taught the humans to call them "gods" and make blood sacrifices, since that's what they drink. After the Sumerians left, they said they left human "gods" in charge of cities who had higher percentages of Sumerian DNA. Secret government whistle blowers say that those people's descendants are the current "elite" who still rule the world, run all the oligarchies, making the masses work for them by their rules, while hoarding advanced technology for themselves. The documentary, "Unacknowleged" (Netflix, YouTube) also alleges this, showing videos of presidents, world leaders, NSA agents, etc. admitting this stuff. Is it better to settle for a good relationship or wait for the best, even if it might never happen?
birdingnut comments on Feb 27, 2018:
Depends on what you want. If you are fat, lazy, unemployed, take recreational drugs, drink, smoke, don't have good hygiene and like to gamble, you should be happy with anything you can get. You will likely have a "good" relationship if you are someone a "good" person would want to date.
Has anyone read the, "Left Behind" books?
birdingnut comments on Feb 27, 2018:
Christian fiction bores and irritates me. Most of it is poorly written, poorly edited, if at all, assumes that everything in the Bible is true, and that the reader subscribes to conventional Christian beliefs. Furthermore, it is usually transparently pushing a religious agenda..such as TURN OR BURN, you loser! Even when I still somewhat identified as "Christian" I told people the same thing when they recommended religious books, and I gave any gift religious books away asap.
As some of you may recall from a post I wrote a few weeks back, I have been dealing with the grief ...

If we are made of matter, which is really energy, and if energy can't be created or destroyed, then we have always existed and will always exist in some energy form. If you're open to it, you can do as I did after my mom died..I couldn't take it, so I continued to talk to her in my mind as though she was there. Why not? We used to communicate by ESP anyway since we didn't have a phone between our floors and when she needed me to come help her. I don't know if it was really her "self" energy that answered me, my own memories, or just my own Higher Self, but it doesn't matter since all energy is connected, and answers I got were what she'd have said if she were still here. Over a couple of years I slowly stopped talking to her in my mind, without noticing, but the pain was gone.
Should you give in to your temptations or resist them
birdingnut comments on Feb 27, 2018:
Depends, as I'm often tempted to go birding outdoors in the sunshine instead of cleaning. It would be cool to have an app that shows what will happen to you in ten years if you continue doing that particular thing every day. If you like to grab a couple of doughnuts on your way to work, what will you look like in ten years, or what will your health be like, all things being equal?

Should war only be a last resort?
birdingnut comments on Feb 27, 2018:
War evolved to reduce the population in lieu of predators and other things that used to thin our ranks. Formerly, 11 out of 12 children died in childhood, plagues swept continents, and people starved to death, but when those means of death were reduced in modern times, war still continues to give the US its positive trade balance by our being able to sell weapons, while reducing competition for resources. I read a study that every time there's a war, wildlife and the environment prospers, since it turns out that farming is most destructive force on the planet, and the first thing to stop during a war. Some animals and birds thought extinct were found in Myanmar jungles during the conflict, due to guerrilla fighters keeping out the farmers, who clear land for planting, destroying the forest.
Question: What do you do if your electric car runs out of electric?
birdingnut comments on Feb 27, 2018:
Simple; wire your car to recharge the battery from spinning flywheels and other engine parts, like a regular car generator does. One could also recharge the battery by putting small, spinning parts on the forward edges of the car to use wind power, even use the friction from the wheels to generate power with the heat transfer differences. This whole dependency on oil for recharging things is all about Big Oil control.

Does anyone remember the first time they had romantic feelings for another person?
birdingnut comments on Feb 27, 2018:
Women don't "fall in love," unless they are heavily male in traits, which I am, but my only relationships were female-motivated-I.e., what can this relationship do for ME? If he wasn't educated, making good money, fit, lean, intellectual, outdoorsy, and nice looking, he didn't even register in my mind as a romantic possibility. But my male side (I'm partially transmale) fell in love with a transwoman friend of mine from high school, about four years ago. Until that time, I thought the whole "falling in love" thing was a fabricated 20th century thing to sell merchandise, and that love songs were just blather designed to sucker women into sex, but when it happened to me, I suddenly realized it was a REAL thing. And horrifying. I suddenly understood why males, not females, experience this, as it made me sappy, besotted, seeing her as perfect, willing to overlook all flapping red flags, heedless of danger. Luckily, she was very female in behavior and soon began ordering me around..where to work, what house to buy, what furniture to buy, etc., quickly disenchanting me. Since I'd always played the female role in previous relationships, and been in charge of all that, I was NOT amused.

How do you feel about talking openly about athiesm
birdingnut comments on Feb 27, 2018:
I don't see any reason to go around being as annoying as religious people have been. Unless I'm asked, why bother to mention it? I have mentioned it on the MK (missionary kid) Facebook page I frequent only after someone tried to beat me over the head with Bible quotes, but more as an indirect comment, like, "I don't believe the way I used to."

No difference. Apparently, I just like to teach, and enjoy interacting with my students..which doesn't depend on whether or not someone else is in my life. But, in some cases, having someone to contribute to the income/housework/car repairs was helpful in general.

Is there anyone here who has ever seen a UFO? And, if so, what do you believe you were witnessing?
birdingnut comments on Feb 27, 2018:
I believe that they are both human-made, back-engineered UFOs, and alien ones. I have seen them so many times in Haiti, and some in the US, that I don't know how many times it was. One saucer shaped one followed our car for 300 miles when my ex and I were traveling to FL in the mid 1970s. It once hovered so close, it stalled our car engine, but kept leaving us to frisk among the houses whenever we passed a neighborhood. It had colors running around the rim, but would also change from one solid color to another, or get as bright as a small sun, then go completely black for awhile. It acted like friendly dog, going on first one side of us, then the other, leave and return, etc. When we passed a military base near Atlanta, it went off to hover above it. Then it seemed to turn sideways slightly, and took off so fast it seemed to blink out.
Because everyone here is awesome, I assume we all love dogs. What are your favorite breeds?
birdingnut comments on Feb 27, 2018:
I like many dog breeds, and some-not so much. I think there should be more responsibility in breeding dogs, since some breeds with flattened faces have trouble breathing, ones with very short legs have trouble walking, some have heads that are too big, and so on. Some breeds can be dangerously aggressive.

What's the strangest thing you witnessed personally
birdingnut comments on Feb 27, 2018:
In the early 1980s, I was driving on a narrow, winding country road, with a creek on one side and a rock cliff on the other side, near my farm in Rowan, CO, KY, when a pickup truck with monster wheels came barreling around the corner. The truck began weaving back and forth across the road as the driver lost control, then came right into my lane, taking up the entire road. I found myself looking up into the grill of the truck, yelled "No you don't!" and knifed the wheel to the right. Since there was a ditch and cliff on that side I don't know what happened, but suddenly I was behind the truck, and stopped, in the middle of the road. Two young men leaped out of the truck and running toward me, faces white, eyes bulging in disbelief. "Are you OK? What happened just now?" A woman ran out of a nearby farmhouse, face pale and incredulous. "What happened? What did I just see?" I didn't know either, but I was alive, which was a good thing, so I drove off on my way. If I'd been thinking, I'd have asked them to describe what they saw happen, but they seemed pretty bewildered. It felt like I leaped straight through the truck. A friend of mine who worked on a Native American Indian reservation near Durango, CO, said the same thing happened to her..a truck came out of nowhere on a desert road and instead of a head-on collision, she suddenly found herself beyond the truck, stopped in the middle of the road. My brother-in-law told a similar story when an 18-wheeler jack-knifed right in front of him and there was a massive pile-up of cars. But he said that suddenly he was parked on the side of the road, well off the highway, watching it all happen. Everyone can teleport, since we are just energy after all, but few can do it on purpose, so I'd say we did accidentally.
Advice!! Recently started dating someone.
birdingnut comments on Feb 27, 2018:
Depends. If you're demisexual, sexual attraction usually doesn't set in until over a year into the relationship. You might be able to delay the break up by giving him a few sexual favors but with most men the sweet spot of fun courtship in a new relationship doesn't last long before you are pressured to either start putting out or break up.

Does unconditional love exist?
birdingnut comments on Feb 27, 2018:
Parent-child, but some men have it. Most normal, cis hetero men can "fall in love," since they need this besotted condition to be able to stick to one woman and help care for progeny, increasing their chances of success. Women with strong masculine traits can often fall in love also, but for women, this is dangerous..being besotted, forgiving anything, making excuses for dangerous behavior in men, etc could get her abused, or even killed. Women with strong female traits instinctively manage men, withdrawing attention and approval the moment men disrespect them. If the men don't immediately stop the bad behavior, they will soon find their stuff tossed on the lawn, and the house locks changed. Then the women move on..no forgiving the men, giving them another chance, etc.
Do you think there are more men than woman Athiests or are women more covert about it?
birdingnut comments on Feb 26, 2018:
I think women are better at trying to fit in socially and not disappoint their families. For instance, my mother was United Methodist, and liberal, but went along with our strict mission to get along for my dad's sake, who was doing engineer work for them. But she would tell us girls privately that we only had to follow the dress code when strict missionaries were around, and she also totally accepted her LGBTQ relatives. She would laugh and tell the story about grandparents inviting the parson to dinner, who snooped in their closet and found a hidden TV. He rushed into the dining room, triumphantly asking, "WHY did I just see a TV tool of the Devil in your closet?!" The grandfather glanced up and deadpanned, "Because you looked."
Hello! I am new here.
birdingnut comments on Feb 26, 2018:
Since "falling in love" is a male trait, useful for keeping males besotted enough to stick with a critical, independent-thinking female long enough to raise his progeny, you may just be too high in female traits to do this. Most high IQ creative types are androgyne, with mixed gender traits, often only having serial relationships due to their independent natures that won't obey women. Studies showed that the only long-term successful hetero relationships were those where the male yields to the female, so androgyne males may be too "female" to do this.
