I'm not so optimistic. Reason won't work on immature minds. The stupendously ignorant are confident and persist in their delusion, thereby agreeing to base their behavior on falsehoods.
brentan replies on Feb 24, 2019:
@RobertMartin Yeats was talking about the ignorant intensity of feelings among what we would term the mob. And the others, who have the ability to think are all just being apathetic. I rarely worked in a job I had a passion for - just once. I got more than money from it, perhaps I felt I had a value. But nobody could criticise the most of people in the most of jobs who do it just for the paycheck.

@TheAstroChuck Ok, you’re just twisting my words now. I’ll tell one thing – somebody will come up with a provable theory some day but I doubt it will be anyone who has no imagination. You’re locked into physics as it’s now understood and that understanding is incomplete. I suspect your notions of science have become sacred to you.

@TheAstroChuck I'm not suggesting anything supernatural. I'm talking about a theory that tries to grapple with the idea of something that is hardly understood at all. I understand your knee-jerk reaction now you've brought god into it. I'm talking about a theory that suggests the way consciousness and the brain work. Your negative attitude to things we don't understand, ruling them out as impossible or belonging to superstition, will not serve science at all.

First – we don’t know how the brain works. We’re only in the beginning stages. I would hesitate to assign one procedure to a certain parts of the brain and say that’s that. Second – if drugs are affecting the brain, the person doing may be damaging their own transmitter. Third – the two hemispheres of the brain are only beginning to be understood in terms of their relationship to each other. There is no reason to believe that consciousness exists there. It may well be that the two halves interpret the information communicated by consciousness and do it in different ways which when joined together produce a complete concept. I got very annoyed at the first person being so arrogant about a subject so little is known about. I’m disappointed to see the same attitude coming from you.

brentan replies on Feb 20, 2019:
I think it’s the difference between internal and external threat. The atheists threaten from the inside and the threat itself is ‘negative’ in the sense of nihilism towards the religious element in society. Jews and Muslims are a different kettle of fish because the threat is seen as external, in terms of Zionism, International Zionism, and the Islamic goal to dominate the world. I think the Islamic goal and International Zionism have the same objective. I think the atheist threat is more nebulous for the moment. As we approach a Cultural Marxism, the threat from negativity will be understand as the more tangible threat but at the moment, Zionism, perceived mostly as ownership of financial power, is the most worrying threat.

I would like communities opinion on this please. And @admin if possible?
brentan comments on Feb 18, 2019:
I would like to say that I defy any of you whiners to try to stop me saying what I think is true within the rules of the forum. The place to argue your point was within the thread itself. It's sad to see such lame appeals to admin that remind me of extreme lefties always demanding that their ...

What Loneliness Can Do To Those Experiencing It
brentan comments on Feb 18, 2019:
It's probably just evolution weeding out the weak. Perhaps social workers aiding the lonely are prolonging the lives of people who have nothing to contribute to society.
brentan replies on Feb 18, 2019:
I think that's a fine comment. I had chosen to take a theoretical approach to see how it would fly and you came back with an excellent individual response.
I inadvertently started a bit of a "brew-ha-ha" earlier.

I'd love to see it. I never got closer than Boise which probably isn't really close but I loved those mountains overlooking the city. I was working in Costco in Washington State at the time and all the men there dreamed of living in Montana. Wonderful memories.

@Marionville It turned out to be a winner. And I don't know a thing about shiraz other than it being a mix of other wines. But Tesco had it at half-price so I gave it a try. I usually just stick to Casillero del Diablo in the sense of better the devil you know, no pun intended, just meaning I know precious little about wines. But this comment you made about opening a bottle and not finishing it, what's that about? It must be a typo!

@dartagnan6666 I got this from dictionary.com: ostentatious in one's learning. overly concerned with minute details or formalisms, especially in teaching. That's what I meant. I'm surprised you said we are what we put our attention to. I'm sure you're absolutely correct but I imagine creatures as complex as ourselves shift our attentions according to mood. That's why I apologised, thinking that my mood was not appropriate in the context of the discussion.
