It's great to see this information coming out. It's the same time as the demise of Gobeckli Tepe as a hunter/gatherer temple. Maybe there's a connection.

What if you replaced the Bill of Rights with the Ten Commandments?
brentan comments on Aug 1, 2019:
Arresting that awful sinner is the Christian thing to do. Some people think it's OK to think something bad so long as you don't do it but Jesus knew better: Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. - Matthew 5:27, 28.
Good Morning Fellow Hippies.
brentan comments on Aug 1, 2019:
I was reading a book about zombies and came across a link to, of all things, an episode of The Twilight Zone called The Monsters Come To Maple Street. It's about the residents of a peaceful 1950s-type street turning on each other out of fear. I couldn't help relating it to the polarised ideologies tearing society apart these days. It's in 5 short parts. Here's the link to Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQMh3junewQ

Sunday school teacher blames Noah's flood on climate change.
brentan comments on Jul 31, 2019:
That's hilarious. "You can't bring climate change into the Old Testament". The curious thing is that the Noah's Flood story, like that of the earlier one from Babylon, probably did have its source in the floods at the end of the last Ice Age, around 12,000 B.C.
“But that's the glory of foreign travel, as far as I am concerned.

brentan comments on Jul 27, 2019:
I couldn't resist posting all the words. This album came out when I was a teenager dealing with a nervous breakdown. JT was a great comfort to me when nothing else was helping: Long ago, a young man sits And plays his waitin' game But things are not the same It seems as in such tender dreams Slowly passing sailing ships And Sunday afternoons Like people on the moon I see Are things not meant to be Where do those golden rainbows end? Why is this song so sad? Dreaming the dreams I've dreamed my friend Loving the love I love to Love is just a word I've heard When things are being said Stories my poor head has told me Cannot stand the cold And in between what might have been And what has come to pass A misbegotten guess alas And bits of broken glass Where do your golden rainbows end? Why is this song I sing so sad? Dreaming the dreams I've dreamed my friend Loving the love I love To love to love to love Oh no no no
Christians are very confused people. . . .

brentan comments on Jul 27, 2019:
This is what I believed as a Jehovah's Witness. Jesus was a lesser divinity even though he was 'begotten, not made' like all other creation. I suppose the Church felt Jesus had to be fully human so that he could compensate for the sin of Adam- otherwise, it wouldn't be a fair propitiation. I can't remember what the problem was with being a lesser divinity. Maybe it didn't sit right with the Trinity idea.
Is it just me or do Christian movies always have terrible acting?

The Death of Free Speech in Europe
brentan comments on Jul 27, 2019:
You need to look at the 7th century through 21st century glasses to think Muhammad was a pedophile. Nonetheless, our right to free speech isn't based on being correct. I feel sure all this is to encourage the growth of cheap labour in Europe.

Saint Kevin knew what to do when he met a wanton woman: 'Another story about his choice of celibacy relates to his time of training at Kilnamanagh. A young woman saw him with his companions in the fields and fell passionately in love with him and pursued him in many ways but he resisted her advances. One day she came on him alone and embraced him and asked him tenderly to lie with her. Kevin rushed away and finding a bed of nettles, stripped off his clothes and rolled himself in them naked. When she further pursued him, he quickly dressed, took up a bunch of nettles and beat her off. She, realising the hopelessness of her quest, quickly repented and went off herself to become a nun. Probably the story shows that at the heart of Kevin’s quest for holiness there was a real struggle'. https://www.catholicireland.net/saintoftheday/st-kevin-of-glendalough-498-618/
