He is very, very good. I enjoyed Ella No Dice Nada so much I learned the words. I'm still puzzled by the last line in the song 'teje que teje'. I think it's 'she knits what she knits' but it might mean more in the context.

I'm not convinced from what you posted that there is anything wrong with you. After all, normal people are very over-rated and don't usually stand up to much inspection. Maybe you're just different; everything in nature seems to fall on a bell curve. I guess that doesn't reduce the pain of loneliness, though. I haven't found any other remedy than being someone other than who I really am. Which I think is what normal people do anyway.

It doesn't account for a supernatural, all-powerful being so the story has an inner logic that doesn't match with the real world. Fine story in an allegorical way. I think the real flood happened around 12,000 years ago at the end of the last Ice Age.

If there is a flood like the one they say happened about 12,000 BC, the result might be the same, a civilisation will disappear and there will be a new beginning. This re-start world might just be the thing to ensure the survival of the earth. I hope we survive to try again.

The real midlife crisis confronting many Americans
brentan comments on Jul 18, 2019:
The last time I looked, Homer Simpson was dedicated to getting his Dad back to the old folks' home. It reflected the understanding that society was outsourcing the care of its parentage to nursing homes. I wasn't aware that mid-life Americans were now becoming carers for their aged parents. There was always an understanding that old folk wanted to stay part of their families and not isolated with their peers. Looking after your folk was seen as a good thing. Selfishness was seen as the reason for dumping parents in homes. I wonder is the sense of crisis justified.

So... you mean to tell me Jesus was born from a woman who was a virgin?
brentan comments on Jul 18, 2019:
I think the problem is that they claim she was always a virgin while scripture mentions Jesus' brothers. And his mother and his brothers came, and standing outside they sent to him and called him.  And a crowd was sitting around him, and they said to him, “Your mother and your brothers are outside, seeking you.” - Mark 3:31,32. To be fair, it is possible that brother had a wider meaning than it has now. If Jesus' brothers were Joseph's sons from an earlier marriage...

That quid pro quo business is definitely the way of the Old Testament. It was meant to change in the New Testament but the old thinking held sway. It's curious that it's also the way the ancient Egyptians thought, weighing up your deeds after death to see if you had a net gain.

Where do myths come from? [facebook.com]
brentan comments on Jul 16, 2019:
I think myths come from the days when humans were grappling with the multifaceted abilities of their brains. The everyday focus on the necessaries of survival and the intuitive awareness of existence as a marvel of unknown proportion were rationalised as best they could. What can The Epic of Gilgamesh tell us about myth? In our day, what can the myths of nationalism and most recently the myths of ideology tell us? I think there is a common denominator as humanity takes data from the material world and translates it, often erroneously and often deliberately too, to create a unified front against fear and other challenges. I hate the deliberate creation of false myth to support the abuse of people. We’re going through a bad time lately where it’s difficult to find a positive myth. By the way, is globalism a myth of epic proportion or simply a historical reality?

I'm really interested in the recent claims that civilisation goes back further than we are taught. I first came across it in Graham Hancock's YT videos about a civilisation destroyed by flood around 12,000 BC. I'm reading Harari's Sapiens right now and he also claims that civilisation began with foraging tribes rather than agrarian communities. That seems counter-intuitive but I'm always curious to hear more about this distant past.
