brentan comments on Apr 16, 2019:
The Bible says the tree of the knowledge of good and evil made Adam and Eve like God in knowing good and bad. They were denied continued access to the tree of life because it would allow them to live forever. What would have been so bad about this? Maybe you couldn't really know about good and bad without experience and a human lifetime of experience is enough for anyone to endure. It amazes me that these essential questions were never answered.

I'm reading a lot lately about the rational mind which has been in ascendancy sine the Enlightenment. It is becoming clear to some that rationality and judging are part of the same left-brain hemisphere function. It expresses an individuality separate from the whole. Here are some good books on the topic: Jill Bolte-Taylor A Stroke of Insight Iain McGilchrist The Master & His Emissary Roderick Tweedy The God of the Left Hemisphere Curiously, the guy who beat them all to it was the English poet William Blake. He was dismissed as mad for his opinions on how the brain works and how rationality is the bane of our existence.

So much for the ministry of the reconciliation! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. - 2 Corinthians 5:18,19. My guess is this perversion of the Christian message has come about through the ideological divide in society.
Maybe not so funny as it is true.

The closed mind of Richard Dawkins
brentan comments on Apr 11, 2019:
I think of him as the 'David v Goliath' figure who took on an organisation single-handedly and won. I read two of his books, The Selfish Gene and the The Extended Phenotype, and they are truly wonderful books. No doubt, he will come to be seen as a stepping stone among others who took us forward in our understanding of ourselves. That move forward usually involves modifying what has been done earlier so I trust Dawkins' work will undergo the same process.
