I'm not familiar enough with British politics to make a comment on the man. I just want to ask who are these Jewish people that the Labour are accused of hating? Do you they exist only in the corridors of power in the party itself and perhaps the aristocracy and big industry? Could it possibly be the old general hatred for Jews? I want to say too that I was appalled at Corbyn's refusal to contribute anything in Britain's time of need and just sit back and wait for the Conservative party to fail. And while he was doing that, he was lying to his own party about his attitude towards the E.U. I'll bet he's not feeling so darn clever now.

Why did an ancient Egyptian king erase all gods but Aten? | Aeon Essays
brentan comments on Feb 21, 2019:
I dunno. I thought it sounded reasonable to understand the situation of Hebrews and Egyptians living together in Egypt as the basis for some shared history. The commonalities, Moses being ethnically Hebrew and culturally Egyptian, the one true god, circumcision and the significance of the colour blue might indicate one came for the other. The last two, I accept, might have been shared across a huge number of cultures. The Hebrew exodus might have been the flight from Egypt (but not necessarily as the Bible writers tell it) after the priests rebelled in Egypt and went back to their old gods.

brentan comments on Feb 21, 2019:
I remember a time when Americans expressed awe almost to the point of cliché. I can understand it after my first view of Snoqualmie Falls and the Columbian dam. You don’t hear so many positive expressions anymore as the country struggles with a new kind of civil war. My sense of awe comes from the arts these days – the perceptions of ‘inspired’ writers, musicians and other artists. But what about the benefits of feeling small in the face of the universe? And would the converse mean that the search for individuality and fame is a bad thing?

brentan comments on Feb 20, 2019:
If you're right, I better be more careful. I've never understood my sexuality better than I do these days and it's more complicated than I ever suspected. I tend to talk about it quite freely because of all the advice they gave about how it's good for me and good for others who might think they're the only ones dealing with these issues. brentan comments on Feb 20, 2019:
My guess is that the underlying reason for the prohibition in Abrahamic religions was cleanliness. There wasn't much back then that wouldn't make a person ritually unclean. All body functions seemed to require ritual cleansing, sometimes sacrifice. But that wouldn't explain the decision to take the lives of homosexual people. I think there's another layer to this that is less obvious and that is the preoccupation back then that there was a relationship between objects that was spiritual in nature as well as physical. It showed itself in rules such as not mixing certain fabrics. Then there's the command not to allow a kid goat to be boiled in its mother's milk because milk was for nurturing, not killing. We don't relate to these ideas anymore as general concepts but nonetheless I still think the revulsion about male homosexual sex because it involves poop is always the elephant in the room when homosexuality is discussed. Curiously, nothing is said in the Hebrew scriptures about lesbian sex and that might be because the ritual uncleanness wasn't so obvious.
Believers need to take note.

Great song from a great band. Who would thought a song sympathetic to the South would resonate with so many people. I guess it's because it's written from the perspective of a man ending up on the losing side 'while the bells are ringing' for his defeat.
