@memorylikeasieve No, there are scores on tests that will indicate how intelligent someone is relative to other people. Aside from that, a person's ability to construct logical arguments and sentence structure gives them away. What resources Mars has: None of those are apparent. My position: There are insufficient resources and such harsh conditions on Mars to establish and maintain a permanent colony of humans on Mars. When asked to show me otherwise, I get a Dunning-Kruger platitude that it "...is never implied to be easy...". Soon we will have space colonies. The idiots will not follow. So, we wait. ;)
dahermit replies on Apr 23, 2018:
@TheMiddleWay A romantic notion, but the reality is that without faster than light travel (which may be impossible), the available places in our solar system are incredibly hostile to life. Mars has only 1/4 the sunlight of earth, which means it will not be a matter of setting up greenhouses to grow food even if the unshielded cosmic rays did not kill the humans and plants. Therefore, it is likely that humans would have to burrow underground and find some unlimited source of energy to harness (which likely does not exist) and avoid cosmic rays, temperature extremes (mostly cold), etc. in order to live. Terraforming is more of a sci-fi notion than it is a reality. Nevertheless, if I have missed something obvious, please enlighten me. It would seem more practical to put a sealed bio-sphere on Antarctica and create a habitation than it would be to do the same on Mars.

Overdosing is not likely a problem inasmuch as the ingredients are likely inert, to begin with. dahermit replies on Apr 9, 2018:
@Nickbeee My definition of "love" is the temporary condition of "consorting pairs" as seen in all the other primates. However, our society has enforced the false notion of "ever after" to such a degree, many/most (especially women), cannot bear to see it as a temporary accommodation for producing a child...nothing more, nothing less. If you believe that not to be true (and think "true love" exists), then you must explain why more than 50% of marriages fail with many of those who stay together have affairs and/or are not happy. If monogamy was a natural state, it would be more successful than it is. At some point, you just have to give up on the fantasy.

@Nickbeee What do you expect from an inane foolish comment ("We are the only species that naturally fouls our living space.") ALL species do that, it is just that some are more mobile than others. Consider ancient hunter-gatherers...it did not matter if they took a dump behind the nearest bush or rock. It only became a problem with permanent settlements. What are you going to say next...that humans are the only species that kill their own kind?

And yes, it can be taken away (despite the 2nd Amendment), via Supreme Court interpretation/rulings and nullified by popular practice (ignoring the meaning of the Constitution)...just as the antis are attempting now with the proposed ban on AR-15's, et. al. By the way, the Constitution does not give the right to own a gun as a tool to protect one's self...it gives people the right for the purpose of maintaining a "...free state...".

@BucketlistBob If "we gave up that defense" is not logical...it could have caused humans to become extinct. Humans are not well adapted to climbing trees, but that is an example of a poor adaption. Some Baboons are basically terrestrial, not arboreal, but in the event of danger, they can climb trees well enough to escape danger. Humans, on the other hand, are not apparently capable of running up a tree as are baboons...so it is not a matter of where we would be if we could still climb trees, it is a matter of losing the ability to climb them if we had to. Something that very well could have caused our extinction. Also, you are assuming that the reason we are not covered with hair is that hair is less pleasing than not. You are assuming facts not in evidence.

@Dawgismygawd Many. Like John Wayne, he was never cast as a coward (like Humphrey Bogart was)...only a hero because he likely could not play those roles. Many fans cannot distinguish between acting skill and their fondness for a particular actor. As an example I have already posted, John Wayne only played one character in all his movies...the undefeated hero. I liked Burt Lancaster in all the movies I saw him in, but until an actor plays characters that are not cut from a single facet, and as much as I enjoyed his movies, his "acting ability" should remain suspect. Let Burt Lancaster play a sniveling coward and then we can assess his acting ability.
