There is a definite pattern here. I would recommend genuinely exploring your relationships in your formative years: both parents or guardians, any step parents, older siblings, aunts or uncles, cousins, etc. I would bet money on it that one or more of these people were narcissists. And one of their main tools of control was manipulation via guilt... hence your susceptibility to sob stories. I was raised by a narc mother and accidentally dated a covert narc (the nice variety with a cult like group of friends) for a few months after she died. I was lucky in that I am not easily trusting and had experience with a narc to investigate him further. The fallout with him was malicious and confidence breaking I intentionally stopped dating for 2 years. I am still susceptible to being guilted by men or family in my life to this day, but keeping it on the forefront of my mind, rather than denying it and blindly trusting everyone, I am catching on to guilting tactics faster and easier these days. I would recommend identifying the narcs in your life, getting therapy to address said residual long lasting effects of this early relationship and then living your life with this in mind to prevent yourself from becoming victimized further. Only if we have been dating for some time will I venture across the city or to the next city (I live in a giant city and going from one end of the subway to the next can take itself over an hour) to visit him. But typically the guy will do that travelling for me.... so far majority of people I have dated either also didn't drive or they took Ubers (that is a type of taxi service) to see me, if we live far away.

I don’t consider myself a nudist, but I definitely miss hitting the nudist beaches.

I would say ya should have delayed replying to her until you were calm and collected. Your anxiety got you in a bad mood and then you both lashed out at one another. You were not in the head space to be supportive. That is fine. Better to have just said hey I'll talk to you tomorrow okay? Instead of the 1-liner replies. I have been on both ends of this due to my own anxiety and try to let close friends know to talk later or in a bit or tell them when I am anxious so they know I am not gonna be a good shoulder to lean on atm. I have also gotten mad at others for not being there for me as I felt they should have when they had their own drama. Luckily, they told me what was going on in their lives and we were able to resolve once both of us had calmed and discussed things. The first time some guy seemed to be flirting with me but did so briefly, respectfully and backing off when I was obviously not interested was such a damn shock, I also was just thanking him for his non sexual compliment (he liked my long hair and commented on it). That physical distance and respect of my lack of interest was such a foreign concept in my 20 something short years, I was in a state of shock. This is not about a matter of feeling obligated to thank him mind you. It was more like thanking someone for being a decent human being to me when attracted to me. Sad experience of life as a young woman.

Face licking, kissing, sucking.. Is that a thing?

The way I look at it, is that if you are a mess, but actively working on fixing your messes, you deserve hapiness too. You should not deny yourself romance or intimacy simply because you have mental health or other health struggles. The poor health is bad enough to then isolate yourself. HOWEVER, if you are taking a break from dating, to prioritize addressing your health and self care that is another thing altogether. After my last ex ( a covert "nice" narcissist) I avoided dating for 2+ years. I did not trust myself at all to not accidentally get involved with another manipulative narc. Now I have better boundaries and will not ignore red flags, just because we have shared values/he treats me nicely TO MY FACE, and will move on to the next guy. Buuut the pandemic hit and dating just isn't what it used to be pre pandemic ;) :p

I find what you wrote about black culture problematic. It sounds racist. I mean what is "black culture"? Or do you specifically mean african american culture?? Because I guarantee you that afro latinos or afro europeans have different "black culture" than americans do. Also, inner city gangs are not specific to black people. Hispanics, asians, middle easterners and lots of white ethnicities (Italians, Irish, etc.) have inner city gangs as well. It is not specific feature of "black culture" imo.

The fact you drive your daughter to work and support her employment endeavours already makes you more valuable than many breeders or abusive "mothers" out there. Not only would my mother (or father) never have done that, but the former actively psychologically abused me in relation to jobs to the point I needed counselling to get over her toxic shit.
