There are differences between men and women. Some should be openly celebrated. Others need some work still. We're getting there. One group with more power than another isn't necessarily interested in just handing it over wholesale - no matter what the circumstances.
demifeministgal replies on Dec 18, 2019:
@Shawno1972 I don't look at it as losing power. I look at is as not being the one at the top anymore so, that elitism is lost at the most as well as some advantages. Sharing should not be viewed as a net loss but in a fckd up, capitalistic, only gains and profits matter society, it will be perceived that way by many.

I think it may be due to religious families/cultural forces.... so if you still live at home (and sadly many millenials have to live with their parents until their late 30s :( ) and your parents are religious, you won't be out with your atheism unless you are certain they will be accepting of it. Otherwise you create unnecessary conflict in your living situation. Not to mention, for career and job reasons. Until you are established in a career or job, why would you alienate a huge swath of potential network opportunities or clients/customers (for business owners) by being openly non-religious in a very religious context/culture/envt? Being out is better suited if you are established by living on your own and having a secure steady career. That's my 2 cents.

@ProudMerrie Yes. I find it hilarious when a guy's entire profile is dedicated to lecturing women and talking shit about women, complaining about his failed relationships, so essentially, has no written bio about himself, except to say he wants no drama. After his entire profile is a dramatic screed. The hypocrisy is delicious. XD "Because I didn’t quite understand what men meant when they said they were looking for “no drama,” I spoke with Jessica Carbino, a sociologist in Los Angeles who specializes in online dating and who used to work for Bumble. She told me that when men in their 20s and 30s say they want something drama-free, they’re looking for women who are “lower maintenance.” When middle-aged men use it, they’re trying to avoid the entanglements that come with former spouses and family. “They could have just gone through a terrible divorce,” Dr. Carbino told me. “They could have presumably been dealing with a lot of issues with their own families, with their children, with their ex-spouses, and they want something that doesn’t present any type of problem or issue. Ms. Valenti said that when men say they want no drama, “they’re signaling to others that they’re someone who’s incapable of witnessing and honoring another person’s feelings.” https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/20/opinion/sunday/tinder-bumble-okcupid-drama.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share

@LiterateHiker You can use google maps as a tool: you type in your starting point and then your destination and click the directions feature. Then you choose the little bus or train icon and it will give you the exact bus or subway route to take. To know specifically where to go, you zoom in on google maps and put the little person onto the map. It takes you into the real world on the street and you can make your little person walk around to get your bearings of the surroundings. @topdogcarl My point was that if someone is long distance, they will have to do MORE to get my attention or get me to consider them, not less. I think long distance can work for people that started off committed at first and then became long distance for whatever reason (work, dying fam member needing care, etc.) and for those people that travel alot and one or both parties have enough disposable income to travel..... but for most people, travelling is beyond our financial reach, especially when one is younger. Nothing to do with being disposable, just not being able to do it financially and emotionally.

demifeministgal replies on Nov 29, 2019:
Interestingly the construct of marriage would have come from the church (controlled and lead by men) and be reinforced by layMEN throughout history, to ensure the progeny one was financially supporting was actually his child. But also, men have various relationships with women including as parents, siblings, cousins, coworkers, friends, best friends, lovers, partners, etc.... the fact you need this spelt out for you and cannot grasp why men would want anything to do with women, is sad.

@OwlInASack you approached the sex topic very well then... I received a catholic styled "sex education" which really should be called fear mongering and an STD/STI education.... on the parental front a man WILL use me for sex and discard me OR a man WILL get me pregnant and leave me, so don't have sex before marriage! On the high school front.... LOOK AT ALL THESE STDs/STIs you WILL catch if you engage in premarital sex! So don't have sex before marriage.... no mention of condoms or preventative measures cuz ya know, marriage keeps our bodies safe from all those pesky STDs/STIs amirite? *sarcasm* On the drinking front it was more sane... could try a sip of wine or booze at xmas or on my bday as a kid/teen so there was no urge to drink... even to this day I dislike booze unless it is sweet hate bitter taste.

Especially as a young-ish person? why? Because we didn't find the one for marriage/LTR as early as some others have? It could be soo much worse than a FWBs, one could be in the hookup culture and having reckless one-night stands.... this seems like a nice medium between sleeping around and being alone and celibate. ;)

Think of it like this, too many people never suspect someone is a sociopath or psychopath or narcissist until they do something violent and fckd up.... well those same subgroup of men are trying to date and apply their sneaky ways in their romantic relationships as they do everyday situations.

@OwlInASack that's good that you didn't stigmatize sex for him.... hopefully instructed him about STDs/STIs as well cuz that matters ;) This is why I think young teens or pre-teens are not ready to date and get into that complicated emotional mess.... but then, I did not start dating until the summer after I graduated high school so I guess I am not representative of the typical teen experience XD though for all of my friends that started dating early it did not work to their advantage and they did not have any edge over someone like me that waited, in fact it caused additional baggage that could have been avoided... ah well. I think she is overtly pushing him away because she is trying to give her new relationship a chance... I did that with my ex when I thought I might get serious with someone... not so much being mean just seriously distancing myself as a friend from him.... I would wager she is doing something similar except more inconsiderately sadly. I think he will find his way.... the only difference amongst my generation and older ones is that we have less marriages/divorces to contend with.... people were still doing unhealthy relationships with the wrong partners and having to deal with heartbreak with the addition of a costly divorce attached.... he has a broken heart but is saving much time and money not having to go through a divorce ;) the silver lining, you see ;)
