I have a question.
demifeministgal comments on Oct 25, 2019:
I am going to be blunt here and you may not like it: I think your timing was terrible tbh.... whenever my (toxic) family members are going through health problems I do not take that opportunity to vent at them... it is not the time nor the place.... I am assuming she is not a generally rude or toxic...

I am sorry your family is not keeping you better informed and in the loop.... if I were in your shoes I would initiate periodic update talks with your daughter just once a week or so hey (daughter's name) any new or important family updates/news? That way you are not waiting to be shocked by news, you are proactively seeking it out. Best of luck to you and to your granddaughter with her pregnancy/birth! :)

@mongo1977 If you have any understanding of mental illness, you would know that that is a silly question to ask... nobody just "gets over" or "recovers" from mental illnesses by maturing.... mental health problems are just like any other physical health problem that require treatment(s). You wouldn't tell someone with an amputated limb that it will get better with some maturation, same thing with PTSD.

Don't see the mansplaining tbh...
demifeministgal replies on Oct 18, 2019:
@TheMiddleWay Those that are mansplaining will rarely, unless you push them far enough ;) admit they are overexplaining or talking down to you BECAUSE you are a woman. Which is why you have to be good at reading body language and tone and pay attention to how they talk to you.... I mean if a guy does not tell me he is talking to me a given way because I am a woman, but in every reply calls me sweetie, honey, sweet cheeks, dear, etc. which he would NEVER do when talking to a man, he may be a misogynistic mansplainer.

I think it is because women are socialized differently, to this day, and a confident man who knows what he is talking about is viewed more favourably than a similar woman. One can be admired, the other can be labelled as a know-it-all or arrogant or worse. Humans are silly

@TheMiddleWay well social science research adheres to different research standards than the hard sciences do... so there is no control group needed in social science research. However I agree with your other critiques... the researchers should probably have used a professional market research company that tracks IP addresses or emails and only allows a person to do one survey and to be over 18. As for lying, that can happen in any research based on ideologies, because how do we prove what ideology a person has, short of reading their minds? Hell national census bureau data can all be false as much of it relies on self-reporting and in the hopes the person is being honest.

I see it happen with men often on other social media or dating sites... to an obsessive extent of an entire profile being dedicated to criticizing women EN MASSE, and not just limited to the ONE woman in question, and having no personal details... like literally an online dating profile dedicated to lecturing and advising women how to act and date around men, but no details of themselves... unless the lecture is meant to act as an indirect sort of detail? @Residualspirit ooh... for me I do a cost benefit analysis and never expect to take pharmaceuticals with no side effects.... so if they are helping with one major health problem and cause some side effects, I see if what they are helping is worth the side effects. The first one I tried gave me limited help and almost all the side effects... so it was pretty much a useless pain... then another one gave other somewhat serious side effects but again was limited help.... now the ones I am on have very minimal side effects and are helping. But, it sounds like your MDD may be one of those hard to treat ones or medication resistant kind.... I wonder if one day prescribing med according to one's biological markers (and they do test for such things nowadays) will improve the situation. Good luck in your journey and remember to practise self-care and compassion when the worst of it has passed. :)

@SiouxcitySue I think we do a disservice to genuine trauma and water down that term if we use it for simple things such as being rejected by a potential date.... I am not one to give men that sound like sexists the benefit of the doubt though, so there's also that. It is a good thing you do not know what they are.... incels: a portmanteau of "involuntary celibates", are members of an online subculture[1][2] who define themselves as unable to find a romantic or sexual partner despite desiring one, a state they describe as inceldom.[3] Discussions in incel forums are often characterized by resentment, misogyny,[4] misanthropy,[1] self-pity,[5] self-loathing,[6] racism,[4] a sense of entitlement to sex, and the endorsement of violence against sexually active people.[4][7][8][9][10] The American nonprofit Southern Poverty Law Center described the subculture as "part of the online male supremacist ecosystem" that is included in their list of hate groups.[11][12] At least four mass murders, resulting in 45 deaths, have been committed in North America by men who have either self-identified as incels or who had mentioned incel-related names and writings in their private writings or Internet postings. Incel communities have been criticized by the media and researchers for being misogynistic, encouraging violence, spreading extremist views, and radicalizing their members
