I am going to be blunt here and you may not like it: I think your timing was terrible tbh.... whenever my (toxic) family members are going through health problems I do not take that opportunity to vent at them... it is not the time nor the place.... I am assuming she is not a generally rude or toxic...

I am sorry your family is not keeping you better informed and in the loop.... if I were in your shoes I would initiate periodic update talks with your daughter just once a week or so hey (daughter's name) any new or important family updates/news? That way you are not waiting to be shocked by news, you are proactively seeking it out. Best of luck to you and to your granddaughter with her pregnancy/birth! :)

@mongo1977 If you have any understanding of mental illness, you would know that that is a silly question to ask... nobody just "gets over" or "recovers" from mental illnesses by maturing.... mental health problems are just like any other physical health problem that require treatment(s). You wouldn't tell someone with an amputated limb that it will get better with some maturation, same thing with PTSD.

Which is why you have to be good at reading body language and tone and pay attention to how they talk to you.... @TheMiddleWay well social science research adheres to different research standards than the hard sciences do... so there is no control group needed in social science research. However I agree with your other critiques... the researchers should probably have used a professional market research company that tracks IP addresses or emails and only allows a person to do one survey and to be over 18. As for lying, that can happen in any research based on ideologies, because how do we prove what ideology a person has, short of reading their minds? Hell national census bureau data can all be false as much of it relies on self-reporting and in the hopes the person is being honest.
