farmboy2017 comments on Mar 12, 2018:
Maybe the question needs clarification? Can Women save it? Women, alone?? Or women in collaboration with men? If it's women, alone, I think not. They'll follow the same trajectory as men have done. If it's women and men together then we might have a chance. But still, it's being human that's damning us. Think of why communes fail... The same thing is happening with society in general.
A friend asked about my latest body of work.

farmboy2017 comments on Mar 11, 2018:
No they can't save it. If you look at what women will pursue, you'll find it's the same nonsense that us men have pursued. Gender does not immunize people from the folly of humankind. No demographic association immunizes anyone from the folly of humankind.

farmboy2017 comments on Mar 5, 2018:
Wendell Berry explains what happens when the path to the village becomes a road and with it come all of the so called 'improvements' of life. And it's then when people forget or dismiss the need to consider birth control and their local resources and how to make them last. He also tells us how institutionalized attempts to save the planet, such as Green Peace, National Geographic, and a host of other large organizations, will fail. He says that the only way to save the planet is for each person to live responsibly in one small part of it. All else fails. I recommend a comprehensive reading of his works starting with 'The Unsettling of America'. I don't believe in everything he says ( he's a believer). but I find it hard to argue with his thoughts on the environment, economics, globilization, etc.

My Wenonah Solo Canoe
farmboy2017 comments on Feb 25, 2018:
I have a Sea Eagle 220(?) Inflatable kayak. It's tough as nails but most suitable for paddling in a river. In open water it has too much freeboard and catches ALOT of wind. Plus the bow flexes against the incoming waves and diminishes the power of each stroke. The wind will even get up under the bow and slightly bend it backwards (abaft), robbing you of headway. Then there's the diameter of the floatation tubes that cause you to have to 'reach' out for each stroke. My advice: get a hardshell if you're interested in paddling. Get an inflatable if you just want to go with the 'flow'.
This is why teaching children about hell is a form of abuse
farmboy2017 comments on Feb 25, 2018:
Religion is far and away above any child's cognitive development. They should never be exposed to the topic until much later in their lives. It's like expecting a child to be responsible with a cell phone. To a child it's a toy. Would you give your 8 year old child a brand new car?? Then why would you give him a Bible or a cell phone at that age? Makes no sense whatsoever...

Hmmm, remove the word 'degree' and replace with the word 'marriage'. Or did I just highjack a thread?? Sorry. But, based on the responses below, I'd say most would not go to school. I'm terminally degreed and I come from a blue collar background and what I teach is exceptionally related to that background in a lot of ways. Would I do it again...NO. I'd go get an associates in Welding and make 6 figures with little to no debt. But, I'd kill to go earn another degree in sculpture. I'm an odd duck of a farm boy!!

farmboy2017 comments on Feb 25, 2018:
It's gotten to a point where a bachelor's degree isn't worth the time or $ invested. A teaching degree, yes. A college degree does help to create a well rounded person but only if it's a true liberal arts degree and not a specialists degree. Unfortunately we're letting the govt and business determine the curriculum and the programs are becoming more and more geared toward industry rather than teaching people how to think. They create Sheeples. Is that how it's spelled? Anyway, I'm in the teaching business and I cringe when my school claims to be a liberal arts school. The Core Curriculum has only 39 hours within a 124 hour minimum requirement. That is not a liberal art approach!!!
