Sounds intriguing! Solid arguments against religion have the most impact on those who are not religious. That's because they require logic, reason and critical thinking. For the religious person, these applications are only for things not having to do with their God.

Sadly, it's easier to assign those applications to "faith". It requires a lot less observing, reading and just plain thinking!

The third is the Duchamp mentioned by "seaspot" I picked the funny little dog by Lautrec because I have a Papillon. The first is 'Three Musicians" of course, and the Van Gough is called "Rain". I had never seen that one there before. That bizarre seated cubist figure is Joan Gris (also a Catalan like Picasso).

I've been a big fan of Jake for about 20 years. I live in Spain part time and have lived in England and Holland, but a friend from Birmingham introduced me to Jake. I consider him to be the best British lyricist since Sir William Gilbert. I have a very good friend from Yorkshire and although educated at Oxford and taught school in London, never heard of him. I'm also a big Gilbert and Sullivan fan, and as a songwriter, myself, am very fond of well-composed lyrics. I don't mind a good tune, either! Check out my website davidfishel.net. I am known better in UK than in US since I worked through the 80s regularly in Menorca for mostly British tourists.

Perhaps your explanation would apply to Pro "wrestlers"(hair could be a problem) and , of course police are right-wing by nature. The obvious exception would be some 'Bikers", who are rightists but only about half are skinheads. The long hair is a throwback to the sixties, and perhaps a reaction to not being permitted long hair in Viet Nam.

No background checks at shows etc. etc., is a group no civilized society needs. I think I know enough about them to make that statement. You know all of the anti-gun arguments and if you compare stats correlating gun violence between the have and have not countries, you will see. I know what your argument is, too. "If you take our guns away we can't defend ourselves against the government." I have lived in Europe for many years and am here to tell you that limited gun-control works. @Keith_J Definition 2 makes no sense. Obviously a typo. And Marks envisioned an altruistic "share the wealth" society because he was tired of the traditional European Monarchies. People are just too corrupt and greedy. I don't know anything about the "Antifa" movement but if it means anti-fascist, I agree. Why would they wear swastikas or hammer and sickles? And as far as the NRA, they are the closest thing we have to fascism outside of the KKK (both of which are cut from the same mold). I'd like to take the gunpowder out of their cold, dead brains.

Actually, the cemetery was pretty bright, but the sun rays behind the clouds made for an interesting melodramatic effect! Mind, you, I,m not religious, but still a "Romantic".

fishline79 replies on Sep 3, 2018:
@Heidi68 I drove down there in 1964 with my dad and a friend to see Biltmore House in Ashville. I think it was my 17th birthday present! I still recall the beauty of the scenery being compromised by the tourist attractions all along "Skyline Drive" (I think it was). Hence my comment about billboards. The 1961 Mercedes 220 SE with "four on the column" was the car I learned to drive in. Instead of our destination we should have gone hiking in the mountains like you! But Ashville is a beautiful place and I loved the "Robber Baron's" house.

In the final analysis I think the result is all that matters. But, personally, I like to be aware of the tradition that went before. No camera has ever been invented that captures a scene exactly the way a human eye sees it. For that matter, probably no two humans see a scene exactly the same. ...

Beautifully stated. I can see you know from whence you speak! As in one of my earlier comments (or maybe two) I, too mentioned Ansel Adams because he is a good example of taking time to compose your shot in the first place. I have always loved the idea of going out with an 8x10 fifteen pound view camera, tripod and a couple of plates and coming home in the evening with maybe one plate exposed. (or maybe none!)The results speak for themselves.

fishline79 replies on Aug 28, 2018:
Using a flash to take pictures of a giant Redwood would be like trying to paint the wall of a building with a Q-Tip! I smile when I remember leaving the beach in the evening when the sun is going down over the sea and looking up at the high-rise hotel facing west. There are a glitter of flashes emanating from the balconies as people attempt to "illuminate the sunset"!

@LB67 If you want to use flash effectively, you must have an external flash unit. The on-board flashes are worthless. If you don't want to spend the money for an SLR, you can get something like I have as my second (quick) "Point and Shoot" with a hot shoe. Mine is a Nikon Cool Pix P7000 which I don't think they make anymore, but you can get used ones from E-Bay. They are a great little camera that is easy to carry and does everything except long telephoto. With a good tilt-strobe you can even take professional-looking portraits or interiors as long as there is a white surface to bounce off of. You can get a brand-new flash unit for under $100.
