Comparisons of religion and Fascism: 1.

Fascism should be replaced with 'All Governments'.

@NotConvinced Watch the film "Lord of the Flies" heh heh. What do you think I am, anyway.?! Can you give me proof that living under anarchy works better? Maybe you'll be lucky and get marooned on a desert island and you can play Robinson Crusoe.

@pixiedust You know, Pix, as much as I dislike religion, every one of them has some value. I was raised in Christianity and as far back as I can remember I resented having to go to church every week but I learned some things in spite of myself. With Christianity, all anyone needs to take from it is that one simple tenet called the Golden ! All the rest is window dressing! Wouldn't everything be great if everyone believed and practiced that little ?!

You missed one, and it's an important one: 14. Both revere the state as a sacred entity. In the case of religion it is the body of the faith. Nationalism is dangerous in its own right, but to become a fascist state, the state needs to be worshiped in a sense as a deity itself.
fishline79 replies on May 1, 2018:
@evidentialist Strange: In my former statement the word god was missing. Is that a Freudian slip or are my keys sticking ("trump a god"). And I have been watching the idiot with apprehension for probably 30 years (ever since his first of a wife and Atlantic City). People our age who read and think have seen him coming. His "base" are clueless!

fishline79 replies on May 1, 2018:
Well, I think as flawed as most governments are we would be worse off under Anarchy, don't you? Countries who have a non-functional political system traditionally default to a repressive Autocracy. I guess we get the government we deserve. Under your system (or lack of system), who would maintain the infrastructure, education facilities, environmental control etc. etc. that we all take for granted? If we give the Trump regime it's head, we might just find out!

BUT atheist communist dictators!!! Do they even realize that these dictators are acting more like them than humanist atheists? I don't speak for atheists but many do appear to be humanists.
fishline79 replies on May 1, 2018:
I tend to simplify and call all authoritarian regimes "Fascism". I really don't k Stalin was a Communist. He was pretty much the same as Hitler or any-other dictator, except he hated the Church, having been raised by Monks. Franco (for example) was definitely a Fascist. He used the church to carry out his agenda, so he supports my theory even more succinctly.

Well my religion may have every component of fascism but it does not matter. Its completely different because its done that way for "love."

You must be a Quaker! I don't by the way, disrespect all religions or deny their right to practice and believe. Live, and let live, as as they do the same.

Great quotes. However, "In God We Trust" was added nearly a century earlier. Religious leaders went to Pres. A. Lincoln, wanting him to endorse adding a reference to God in the US Constitution. Lincoln deflected, allowing the phrase to be place on currency instead.

Pardon me, Chuck. I meant to say the words "Under God" were put into the Pledge of Allegiance in 1954. An inexcusable mistake for which I heartily apologize. Well, at least the "n God we Trust" was not there when the founding fathers started this whole rigmarole, so I was not entirely wrong!

When you say we, who are you referring to? I have never used a god to explain what I don't know. I simply say "I don't know - I will try to find out"
fishline79 replies on Apr 26, 2018:
When I say we, I am obviously referring to the human race in general. At any rate, I don't believe you quite understood my comment. A writer writes subjectively. He is not addressing each individual reader. And it should be "Whom are we referring to ?"; or better yet, "To whom are we referring ?".
