@altschmerz are those all polls? anyway i certainly am not going to click them all. you can write stories with any kind of slant and find interviewees to support that slant, but if this was really how israelis felt it wouldn't been much easier for bibi to steal the election, which he did succeed in doing, but it was close. imagine if he hadn't stolen it. g

genessa replies on Apr 19, 2019:
most israelis do not feel that way, nor most jews worldwide. i don't know who this rabbi is but he is not representative. tonight is passover and we dip our vegetables into salt water that represents NOT just the tears of the enslaved hebrews in egypt but the innocent egyptians who were victims of the plagues. some of them (like the slaveowner killed by moses) were nasty. the pharoahs of the time certainly were (there are two in the story (yes, it's just a story -- i'm not talking about a real moses or a real god, although there certainly were pharoahs and there certainly were slaves), each as nasty as the other). but the egyptian population in general is not portrayed that way in the story, and we weep for them every year. so no, most jews do not want palestinians or any nation of people or any race of people to drop dead, despite what palestinian leadership has said it wants to happen to the jews of the world. i don't judge the people by their leadership, nor the people of israel either, and especially not by what one crazy rabbi says. he should know better. i hope we know better than to conflate these ideas with the ideas of the general population. g

@genessa and Happy_Killpot are at conflict to sort this out. My next question is going to be about the protozoan and others. Science says it has no recognizable evolutionary history, but we all know it does. How it fits with evolution will perhaps answer both of your points of view.
genessa replies on Apr 19, 2019:
do you mean they never evolved into anything or that nothing evolved into them? the former certainly isn't true, nor does science (which isn't a voice, but an area of study) say it is. i don't know anyone who says they magically appeared out of nowhere either. so i don't understand what you mean. can you specify? meanwhile, https://www.britannica.com/science/protozoan/Evolution-and-paleontology g

@Happy_Killbot you didn't SAY evolution of ideas, and your post didn't really indicate that you meant ideas, so how would we know? your example, by the way, isn't really evolution. you can use the word casually that way and everyone will understand what you mean, and it's okay to do that, but if you're trying to make an analogy to show how ideas can evolve, that's not a valid one, because that process you described is not even remotely similar to actual evolution. in actual evolution there is no dismantling, and i stand by what i said. g

@Happy_Killbot correct, i really know for a fact i could not have done better by myself. i live in the world, with other people, and people who do things cooperatively can achieve more than those who do not. as for social security, i am disabled, and now elderly too, so no, i could not have made safe long-term investments, for i never had anything to invest; employers do not voluntarily pay living wages for the most part. too many folks live paycheck to paycheck and have nothing to invest, or save, and one illness, one accident, one unforeseeable expense can ruin their lives. and you are also correct that what you have said makes no sense; it also seems antisocial and selfish. but then, that is a good description of libertarianism, whether or not you call yourself a libertarian (i didn't look). g

Another anguished post from a Trump supporter: "Why do liberals think Trump supporters are stupid?" The serious answer. Sigh; we do sometimes fall into that rhetorical trap, out of frustration, but if we were to be 100% honest with you we would admit that we find quite a few people on our own side stupid as well, mostly people who have boiled all the complicated issues into slogans and really don't comprehend what they're saying. I think you guys probably look at the dumber of your compatriots and think, "Jesus, this guy's barely rubbing his brain cells together, but at least he can wave a sign." No, this is what we really think about Trump supporters, the rich, the poor, the malignant and the innocently well-meaning, the ones who think and the ones who don't. That when you saw a man who had owned a fraudulent University, intent on scamming poor people, you thought "Fine." That when you saw a man who had made it his business practice to stiff his creditors, you said, "Okay." That when you heard him proudly brag about his own history of sexual abuse, you said, "No problem." That when he made up stories about seeing muslim-Americans in the thousands cheering the destruction of the World Trade Center, you said, "Not an issue." That when you saw him brag that he could shoot a man on Fifth Avenue and you wouldn't care, you chirped, "He sure knows me." That when you heard him illustrate his own character by telling that cute story about the elderly guest bleeding on the floor at his country club, the story about how he turned his back and how it was all an imposition on him, you said, "That's cool!" That when you saw him mock the disabled, you thought it was the funniest thing you ever saw. That when you heard him brag that he doesn't read books, you said, "Well, who has time?" That when the Central Park Five were compensated as innocent men convicted of a crime they didn't commit, and he angrily said that they should still be in prison, you said, "That makes sense." That when you heard him tell his supporters to beat up protesters and that he would hire attorneys, you thought, "Yes!" That when you heard him tell one rally to confiscate a man's coat before throwing him out into the freezing cold, you said, "What a great guy!" That you have watched the parade of neo-Nazis and white supremacists with whom he curries favor, while refusing to condemn outright Nazis, and you have said, "Thumbs up!" That you hear him unable to talk to foreign dignitaries without insulting their countries and demanding that they praise his electoral win, you said, "That's the way I want my President to be." That you have watched him remove expertise from all layers of government in favor of people who make money off of eliminating protections in the industries ...
