God doesn’t exist. Why or why not?
darthfaja comments on Sep 19, 2018:
I’ll keep this simple. It just doesn’t matter. If god does exist he did a really bad job at designing. Yes I said he. A woman wouldn’t have fucked up as much.

i have always said this unatheistic-sounding thing, just to be snarky, when people refer to god as "she": if god were a woman, men would menstruate. g

@rabidazzle lol that wasn't my perspective. i was arguing with that perspective. the original poster said we use our imaginations as filler for what we can't perceive. i said that instead, we use our imaginations to create real things, REAL things, that perceive what we cannot perceive without those aids. that's not the same thing. the former means we imagine what we don't know, and so we might accept or believe things that aren't real. the latter means no, we do NOT do that; we make tools that help us perceive what IS real even if we are not biologically equipped to perceive it alone. g

some of the problem is the repression you mention, but a good deal of it is their perpetual inundation with the idea that women are things, prizes to be won, or stolen, not people. even a good pair of parents can't counter that completely. women in power can. g
genessa replies on Sep 19, 2018:
@marcp52 it begins in childhood but with women in power, the child has a chance to 1. have parents who are affected by women in power and 2. have outside influences that counterbalance bad parenting to SOME extent and reinforce the idea that at least outside that particular home men and woman and boys and girls can and should be equal. it's not either/or. as for the entrenched, good, restrain them. restrained, they set less of an example (and cause less trouble). g

@misternatureboy "wow, that was a BIG one!" after an earthquake is not generally viewed as an imposition, right? lol! been there, done that! i rode plenty of buses in california. one of the best conversations i ever had was on a bus with someone who had been a stranger. (strangers don't always remain strangers.) she was a little girl, riding the public bus, alone, to school. she sat down next to me and we talked. one day she started to say something and then she stopped. "what?" i asked. "oh," she said, sheepishly. "i forgot you weren't a kid. i was just going to tell you some kid stuff." that was one of the highest compliments i ever received! funnily enough, her mother and i also used to strike up conversations on the bus, and it took me ages to realize that these two even knew each other, because i never encountered them on the same ride. they lived a couple blocks from me and i never would have met them had i been unwilling to strike up conversations with strangers. on the other hand, i haven't only done that in california. but i could not help noticing that minnesotans are, or at least were when i first got here, more reserved. g

@FrayedBear i'm not friends with anyone i have met on a bus where i currently live, not solely because i no longer ride public transportation. when i lived in los angeles, i made friends on the bus, since we turned out also to be neighbors. but i do not have your friend's problem at any rate. i live with my guy; we've been together for 18 years. i don't drink. (i hate football too.) i've never belonged to a singles club. i always enjoyed being single. now i enjoy being half of a couple. i don't think your friend's trouble stem from his ability to chat easily with strangers. one doesn't do that with the expectation of their becoming friends. one does that to be friendly (which is different) and to make the ride, or the gathering, or whatever, pleasant, and also because chatting with others can be, in and of itself, pleasant. g

i will look for it, but corn starch is cheap and i am on what would be a fixed income if it were not so pitiful it barely qualifies as income. it goes out more than it comes in. anyway, i only use corn starch when i am lazy (and in place of baby powder when i use it for noncooking purposes; not sure if i could afford arrowroot for that! i'll add that i used so little corn starch for this, my container of corn starch that i use for cooking won't be empty for a year or two, and it's not that big!) when i am motivated i make a nice alfredo, involving no corn starch -- just flour or masa if i can get ahold of it, butter (well, fake butter, but the brand i use is really good), parmesan cheese, garlic, powdered milk because i get it for free and can't stand to drink it so i cook with it, water and the seasoned salt i make myself so it contains no msg, only kosher salt, powdered bay, garlic power and paprika, sometimes celery seed but i find it overpowering so sometimes not. the salt is about a third of the whole. or i make a roue, meaning without the parmesan and without fresh garlic, but still containing the garlic powder that's in my seasoned salt. it depends on the dish. for this one it would not have been the alfredo. not with the sesame and soy and all that. g

@Captain747ex he has the wrong facebook friends, then lol oh my, let's see, can you by ANY chance get him to watch msnbc? it's a network, not a person (i know you know that; i'm saying it for a reason) so it's a mixed bag, as it SHOULD be (unlike fox, which instructs its personnel every morning what it can and cannot and must and must not say, on what topics, and i am not making this up and i am not speculating; this HAPPENS). if he likes republicans, you can ask him to watch what i cannot watch because my stomach turns: morning joe. i can't stand joe, but he used to be a republican senator, and in the beginning i think he even supported trump (certainly not now!) i know your dad will probably say no because to his mind, msnbc is fake news, even though as i said, it's a network with a variety of reporters and news analysts. he probably won't believe you when you say that. the first thing a brainwasher does is cut off all other input by convincing you that everyone and everything else is a liar and a lie. so this is a tough nut to crack. i don't think he will watch morning joe. i think you will have to make it more human, more immediate, closer. let me think upon't. there has to be a way. your dad's not stupid, right? he raised you, right? so... something happened. it can be made to UNhappen. the aim is not to hurt him, but to awaken him. g

I'm not aware of the stolen documents issue. My biggest concern is Kavanaugh's position that the President has discretion in what laws the president enforces. From my reading of the constitution, there is no discretion. It's one thing if the sitting president takes the position that he doesn't ...

it's all worrisome. the documents thing, lemme see if i can find an article. if it's the nyt or wapo i may be out of free reads, which sucks because they're such good sources. but i'll try. if all i can find it huffpo or something, which gets its info from the other sources, you may try the two i initially named, if you're not also out of free reads, or if you subscribe. here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8IA2KJows8 try wapo for the full story. this should give you a sliver of info though. g

The link works. There was another post about this, also linking to an apparently earlier article in Newsweek. I hope Cruz does wind up in court over this. I also wonder if this violates Senate ethics rules. ...
