@SkotlandSkye STOLEN via taxes? oh i see, privatize everything so only those who can afford to pay get their roads fixed. taxes are not theft. how they're used is another story. and privatized companies don't fire their employees for not performing to standards acceptable to the customers, just for not performing to standards that make the company money. libertarians, FEH! hahaha to your whole concept, a big fat resounding sincere and hearty NO. g

@johnprytz someone might... IF (and it's a big if, not just on this page) there is a currently knowable calculation. just as infinity works in both directions, there is the possibility that a was caused by b so we want to know what caused b, and b was caused by c, and we'll run out of alphabet before we run out of answers because the answers just keep going back. so the calculation might be r divided by s, but then you're left with what caused r and what caused s. it's like those mirrors within mirrors. i'm not saying it's not worth knowing, or trying to know. i'm saying don't let your disappointment overwhelm you if it turns out there is no end to it. g

@TheMiddleWay i am not talking about people who can't pay. doctors on salary at clinics or hospitals get paid whether they treat a medicare or medicaid patient or a rich person with private insurance. some of them (and the nurses, and the other staff) are noticeably ruder to medicare and medicaid patients. i switched hospitals partly because of how badly i was treated at one. helping people isn't about giving them everything they want. it's about making sure people get what they NEED. g

judaism is a religion. jewishness is a cultural identity. someone just called me racist for saying that. i am not saying jewishness is a race. @Renickulous sorry, but germany in 1944 was NOT socialist. soviet russia was communist. communism has a completely different role for the government to play than socialism does (and i remind everyone that democracy is a political system and socialism is an economic system; they are compatible, which is more than i can say for democracy and rampant capitalism). socialism has killed NOBODY. dictators have, whether their economic systems were communist or nazi (yes, the word socialist is in the acronym but that is misleading; naziism was not socialism!) if those are the lessons you have learned about socialism, you still do not know what socialism is and your lessons need to be discarded in favor of better lessons. g

at the moment, money is being redistributed for the convenience of those who do not need it, and in fact do not even pay the taxes on it that they should. redistribution in and of itself isn't a bad thing; that is what taxes are FOR. it should be sensible and compassionate, though. it makes no sense to take money from the poor and give it to the rich. g

@TheMiddleWay my objection to that includes the very real possibility that this method of prediction will be, maybe already is, abused. there is already unequal treatment in some places of people on medicaid. i am not talking about what medicaid does or does not pay for. i am talking about whether a doctor will treat a poor patient with the same respect afforded a rich one. i have seen this with my own eyes. g

@powder it certainly sounds like an oxymoron, but while judaism is a religion, jewishness is a cultural identity, so the seeming oxymoron isn't actually one. i said nothing about race. there is no such physical thing as race, but thanks for assuming i might be a racist. i have no idea how many female moyels there are. i know a lot of female rabbis. i have not counted them. there are different branches of judaism. reform and conservative judaism has by and large changed the prayer books so that god has no gender, and women are not chattel in those branches. they represent by far the majority of jews in america. g

actually, jews do not consider atheist women whores, and there are jewish atheists. i am one. atheism is not a dealbreaker in judaism. taking on another god is -- so becoming christian or musli would be a dealbreaker, but not believing there is any such thing as a god is not. i don't know where you get your information, that you speculate so confidently that a jewish man would automatically think that atheists have no morals and are sex fiends. i never heard that in any synagogue or jewish household, or from any jews. Interesting is listening to others ideas for their position on abortion
genessa comments on Sep 15, 2018:
i have no position on abortion. nobody likes abortion, not even abortion doctors, who would probably rather be delivering babies. my position isn't on abortion. it's on choice. if it's not your body, it's not your choice. if it is your body, it is your choice. that's my position. g
genessa replies on Sep 16, 2018:
@onan180 i will deal with your points and statements one by one so pardon me for pasting them here. my answers are in parentheses following your statements. it seems the narrative for abortion is (wrong. it is my narrative for choice, or it would be if you got it right, but you have not got it right.) 1) your body your choice (my right to swing my arm ends at your nose. to that extent my body is my choice.) 2) Its not a baby because it can't live outside the mothers womb (i didn't say that. viability is one factor. you have simplified incorrectly.) 3) questions the timeline of when does life begin (wrong. i question the timeline of when human sentient life begins) 4) nobody wants abortion really (true, but you're going to pretend someone actually want it, aren't you?) 1) "your body your choice". "nobody can tell me what I can do with my body" this narrative is championed by supporters everyday. (who cares? i am not saying it because someone else said it.) here is the contradiction...... if nobody can tell you what you can do with your body then why do you accept the date imposed by others in which you "cannot" terminate ? therefore blindly accepting what others are telling you what you can do with your body? (sorry, but your characterization of my BLINDLY accepting what others are telling me is a BLIND characterization. there does come a point before birth where a fetus is sentient and viable and that is the equivalent of there now being two humans involved. the mother, i feel, not because someone told me, either, should take precedence, but a sentient, viable baby must also be considered. that is why there is a date -- not agreed on by everyone, and sometimes decided quite deliberately to prevent most abortions rather than in a manner that protects a sentient, viable baby -- past which abortion must be given more serious restrictions than earlier abortions, when the fetus is indeed just a clump of cells.) 2) its not a baby.. I can think of a lot of negative things people are capable of doing when the identity of humanity is removed.. slavery for hundreds of years would be one of them. its amazing what people can do to other people if the narrative is right and taught to their children. (this is a false conflation and shame on your for evoking it.) 3) questions of timeline when life begins. I think we can agree that the millions of abortions performed over the years if left to continue in the time of development to term would be apart of the population today and some would be on this blog. we are all in a state of existence and change from conception to death we are changing. look in the mirror and ask yourself when did your existence begin ? you know the answer and so do I. and the truth knows. (the truth is not a ...

@Tominator murder is a legal term. abortion is legal in the usa. therefore no matter what one thinks of it, it cannot be murder. life... is ill-defined by most people who use the word. a tree is alive too. so we need to say human life. but a sperm is alive too. so then we might say sentient human life. a fetus is not sentient in the first trimester; it has nerve endings but they're not functional. almost all abortions happen in the first trimester. sentient human life doesn't begin that early. then there is the issue of viability. a first-trimester fetus isn't viable, either. it's a clump of cells, not a person. g

@twill you want me to give you, here, the history of israel from the turn of the 19th/20th century through the present, and thanks for nothing because i suggested you look it up? your answer shows you know zip. but i will tell you a tiny part of it. the british mandate set aside a bit of land, slightly larger than israel is now, for the jews, and a HUGE bit of land, mostly comprised of what had previously been transjordan, for the palestinians. teeny and huge. the palestinians complained so the mandate took a sliver from then-israel and added it to transjordan, which was renamed jordan. transjordan already had a population, as did israel, but that mattered little to the british. anyway, israel's population included arabs/palestinians and more and more jews as they arrived. the neighboring arab nations were outraged that jews were coming, and told the palestinians in israel that the jews were planning to murder them. in fact, israel had invited them to stay. those who did are full citizens, and some even serve in the knesset (parliament) to this day (not the same individuals, obviously). the palestinians believed their arab neighbors and fled to jordan, the land set aside for them. the jordanians rejected them. now the palestinians were homeless. so whom should they blame, the jews who said "stay and be israelis"or the jordanians who said "yeah this is supposed to be your land too but stay out anyway"? that's a SLIVER of the history you apparently do not know. if you don't want to know more, that's your business, but then don't make judgments based on what you don't know. if you DO want to know more, the information is available. there is a lot of it. you can find it. it's totally up to you. g

genessa replies on Sep 16, 2018:
@onan180 1. no one is making the doctors perform abortions. correct. they do it because women need abortions sometimes. you doubt that some people do things they'd prefer not to have to do because it's the right thing to do? no one likes to amputate limbs either. should everyone who needs an amputation be left to die because the doctor would rather be doing a different procedure? 2. your body your choice is exactly what it says, nothing misleading about it. the arbitrariness of the line after which you cannot terminate in some states, and cannot terminate unless the life of the mother is in danger in other states, is due to the stupidity or worse of legislators. the logical line is NOT arbitrary. it depends on the viability of the baby: when its lungs, for example, have a change of supporting it outside of the mother's body. there is nothing whatsoever arbitrary about that. do not confuse legislative and political reasons for medical reasons. 3. apparently you're buying into a narrative that has nothing to do with facts. 4. doctors are making money performing abortions? the doctors who are performing abortions are not ONLY performing abortions, and they are not making money PER abortion. they are salaried. they do not have to perform abortions. they do it because and when it's necessary. now, if abortion were illegal, THEN doctors would be making money performing abortions. you'd have to be making secret arrangements and handing over money to some doctor who might or might not even BE a doctor, and you might die from the procedure, but hey, it's minimally safer than doing it yourself with a coat hanger, right? but as the law stands now, in places where the constitution is honored, doctors are making no extra money from abortions. they're making their salaries for being doctors. getting your facts straight is a helpful thing. try it some time. g

no one knows for sure and anyone who says they know is operating on some kind of faith -- their own, if they believe what they're saying, or yours, if you believe what they're saying. now some stuff we DO know. we know you don't turn into a unicorn and gallop away, for example. we have good ...

@GlyndonD well i don't accept it, on the basis that you clearly do NOT understand what i am saying. i say this based on your assertions that i have said certain things that not only have i not said but the opposite of what i've said. so you think i need not explain myself anymore. good for you. i think i shouldn't bother, but for different reasons. g
How to get people to like you
genessa comments on Sep 15, 2018:
i have no interest in getting people to like me. i have an interest in being the best me i can be. if people like me for that, fabulous! if people want me to be someone else so they can like me, they'd better go find someone else. g
genessa replies on Sep 15, 2018:
@JackPedigo well, that's not what i mean by be yourself, unless you're bipolar too. if you have normal control over your conduct, just don't pretend to be who you're not, and don't pretend not to be who you are. that doesn't mean you have to shout out "you're ugly" whenever you see an unattractive person. that's not the same thing. as for the "some" for whom it works, what do you mean that "we," as opposed to the "some," live in a society? everyone does! and you don't have to fit in to the extent that you're not even you. what you heard about showing your emotions and too bad about others is NOT what being yourself means. there is an in-between, you know! g

@JackPedigo that's different from getting people to like you. my advice stands: be yourself. g
Don't. You. Hate. When. People. Post. Like. This. why do they do it?
DenoPenno comments on Sep 15, 2018:
Your example is much like texting which I absolutely hate. People are like that today and it's not just kids. My grown daughters can text you a letter. Why not e-mail me a letter instead. People today would rather text a job interview.
genessa replies on Sep 15, 2018:
i refuse to text. i just refuse. i don't even check my texts. if someone knows my phone number they can CALL me. g

everyone wants to break me (or you) emotionally and mentally? i don't think for an instant that most people, even among those who know me, have designs, good OR evil, on my emotions or mental state, but those who do mostly mean me no harm and i don't hang out with those who do mean me harm. people...

@JosephMelton if you don't go through with that sober thing, there is a good chance the job thing won't go through with you :-(( g

It reminds me of talking Trump but his supporters cannot talk Trump. All you get back is Hillary and Obama. I even had one go into great lengths about AIG at one point. I had no idea what he was talking about. Isn't that an insurance company?
genessa replies on Sep 15, 2018:
last time i looked it was! weirder and weirder. yeah, the old change-the-subject ploy. if you don't know what you're talking about, attack someone, quick! they do that. g

it would float my boat not to have to block anyone. i am interested in opinions, even those that differ from mine. i am less interested in pugnacity, rudeness and false assumptions (even false accusations). i didn't block these people for pleasure. i blocked them so they would not interfere with my enjoyment of this site. g
I have genre dreams. do you?
DenoPenno comments on Sep 15, 2018:
I see certain anxieties here that we all might have. Some do not admit it. Did you come from a large family? Does your mother have something to do with many children? Surely you are out of place here, and the possibility of someone else in your room might make you wonder if you are going to be ...
