@AmelieMatisse I used to love fishing for them when I lived on the coast, 2 small sharks would fill a lot of freezer space, and one of the easiest to clean and store. It has been so long since I fished for one I haven't read the regulations in 30 years. The only rules were no scalloped hammerheads and no wasting of the fish, I know there are a lot more now.

Can you imagine if you tried that in a rental. I have remodled 9 rooms( some more than once) in my house and added countless changes to my yard over the past 30+ years as well as added a patio cover. Each change has my own flavor, or that of my ex. It is a reflection of me and what makes me comfortable. I have a treehouse, that is still standing 25 years later with a 16 foot slide attached. I would not have been able to do any of that with a rental. Since it is paid off, my housing costs are miniscule in my retirement.

When I saw it start to manifest, Saturday morning, my vet was already closed, so I got the antibiotics from the feed store & used the equipment I had on hand to force the water and meds on them until they got better. Of all the puppies that were expose to parvo at that pound mine were the only two to survive. I was raised in a rural community until I was 13, so I knew my way around sick animals.

glennlab replies on Jul 23, 2019:
One the economy is not booming the metrics have been changed so that they no longer even remotely resemble reality. The reason for the decrease in unemployment is that no one is unemployed if they have even one hour per week of paid work. The stock market is proped up by 1 trillion dollars borrowed on the US credit card and given to corps to buy back their own stock, I have no idea what they are including in GNP, but rest assured that it is highly inflated. We have never had as much national debt either as a government or consumers. Two smoke and mirrors abound.

Spokane has winter snow/ice that makes travel risky. There are roads on the South Hill you do not take during the winter. It gets as cold as -20 F some years. Cheney is home to Eastern Washington, slightly cheaper housing than most of Spokane and has a more liberal population. You on the edge of...

@altschmerz so they can't be embarrassed. My mother died in 1996 and my father in 1955. My mother almost died (or killed me) when I told her in 1970 that I was agnostic, so she would probably be really upset today.

Is this a special vanilla? My worst blunder was a beef wellington with a mushroom sauce between the meat and pastry. I couldn't believe that it only needed a couple of minutes cooking on the pan before wrapping and it was medium well throughout. No tender pink to be found!

I make it using vanilla beans and everclear, in a mason jar, as long as you only take a few ounces at a time, it will last pretty much indefinitely.

I like the smell of vanilla. If I started to list all my kitchen blunders I'd be writing a book. I've had plenty of oopsies that ended up straight into the trash can. I've pretty much slowed down on the amount I cook in recent years, being single and eating very simply does that for you.

glennlab replies on Jul 19, 2019:
@LucyLoohoo The law was stuck in committee almost the entire legislative session, by the time it came to the floor, it had been changed so many times that no one was really sure what was in it and what the legal ramifications were. It is not uncommon in Texas for many of the local officials to wait untill legislation has passed before they start to dissect it since so much can change once it gets to the joint committee. This is a case where something got snuck through in broad daylight thanks in part to our superb educational system in Texas.

The nice thing about the gov and other pols is that they have zero control over local DAs. The DAs do have control over their own resources and don't want to waste money on a machine that cost several $100 thousand dollars for a low level offense.
