Firefox will get touchy if there is an update that you haven't installed. Close it and reopen it anytime it starts to slow down. Also clear your cache on a regular basis. You can do it one of two ways, delete your recent history (make sure to modify it so that you don't lose your saved info), or go to options, privacy/security and clear it there.
